Chp 20

That night Milind had requested Prachi to play him a tune on the piano "Tuu buhut acha bajati hai" You play very well he had smiled encouraging her and her lips had turned in a shy smile "Really?" she had inquired and he had nodded in assent. She had then played him one of Mozart's number and he had listened spell bound eyes closed heart floating with the sweet notes. As she finished she had smiled watching him intently she had come to like him very much and hoped their friendship continued for a life time. "Milind" she had called him out and he had opened his eyes to see her look at him apprehensively. "Hmm" he had answered "woh .. aap.. " she had started and he somehow knew she was up with another of her feminine problems. "Hm.. main .. woh..." she stammered "seedhay seedhay bolo kiya kaam hai" Tell me properly what is it that you want he had remarked dreading another fiasco like the lingerie one earlier. "Can you open the stitches you made in my blouse I wanted to change the saree it's uncomfortable" and he had exhaled his bated breath. "Sure" he had assented finding the scissors from the drawer steeling his nerves he once again focused on the stitches prying them open he would've finished his task had the power not gone off then. "Isko bhi abhi jaana tha" This had to go just now Milind had done away with half of them and had been irritated thinking he'd have to do the rest by candle light. "Ruko yahin I'll get the candle" Wait here he had walked out in the pitch dark soon he returned with one burning brightly.

Prachi fidgeted uncomfortably she had borne the blouse for the pooja but couldn't any longer it was tight and her wounds ached underneath it. Asking her to hold the candle Milind proceeded with the rest of the stitches opening them all all would've been fine if Prachi hadn't tripped on his foot and the candle hadn't toppled over burning her with the scalding liquid wax. She stifled a scream and moved away in pain "Prachi.. Prachi" Milind had called out adjusting his eyes to the dark groping around for the candle. He had relit it and placed it on his desk Prachi certainly had been burnt though the burns weren't serious her skin had seared she stood silent shedding tears. "Kahaan jala?" he had inquired "It's ok she had managed in a muffled voice. "It's not ok let me see" he had persisted "I said it's fine" she had repeated. "Don't you trust me Prachi?" he had questioned her nothing mattered more than her wellbeing to him and Prachi had assented. Bringing the first aid kid he had unhooked her blouse from the back doing away with the remaining stitches exposing her skin Prachi's muscles had flexed slightly feeling his touch on her bare skin. He studied the burns before applying ointment on them gently blowing on them which made her flesh tingle. She though could not help but relax as he massaged her back in the dim light "How do you manage to get hurt so easily and so often" he had mused aloud his fingers working the ointment gently on her skin. " I guess I know you'll be there to take care of me" she had smiled and he shook his head in disbelief. "I'm not going to be around forever Prachi you better start taking care of yourself" he had chided her. "Aren't we going to be friends after I return home?" she had asked shocked turning around to look at him.

"We'll see when the time comes Prachi" he had gently assured her afraid that she might turn upset with the thought and fret over it. "No tell me we are friends for life right... I have no other best friend beside you now" he could see she spoke the truth as her eyes glowed in the amber light of the candle beams her hands clasping his. "We are friends for life Prachi" he had pacified her gently squeezing her hands. "And you'll never leave me" she had questioned apprehensive about the twist in their relationship "I'll never leave you... I promise" he had vowed to her afraid of breaking it soon since he knew once she returned back to her world she might never think of him again. "Thanks" she had whispered softly she felt much more comfortable. "Ab dard to nahin?" Does it hurt now? he had asked as she had moved away from him "Nahin aap ney dawaii lagayii hai na is liye dard nahin"No you applied the ointment so its not paining anymore she had assured him and he had felt relieved atleast she wasn't in pain something he couldn't bear. "You change in something comfortable and get rid of this stupid blouse" he had told her picking up the candle. He wondered why it bothered him so much her tears, her ache, even her thoughts as if he was responsible for everything about her. The change in his heartbeat made him dizzy he wondered why it accelerated everytime her eyes rested on him, now too she looked at him intently. "Kuch kaam hai?" You need something? he had inquired to break the thick silence. "Aap sey kuch puchun... bura to nahin maaneingey" Would you mind if I asked you something? she had asked and he had smiled "Nahin" No he had assented sitting down on her bed replacing the candle on the table while she stood near the open window. "Kiya aapko malum hai pyaar kiya hota hai?... kaisey hota hai?" Do you know what is love and how do ppl fall in it? she had questioned him in hope of gaining knowledge on the most complex subject in life. "Pyaar" Love he had mused his lips curling slightly "Aaj pyaar kyun yaad aa gaya?" How come you remembered it so suddenly? he had inquired positively intrigued by her unusual query. "Kuch to hota hoga na pyaar main jo woh insaan ko itna sab kuch dey deta hai hosla, himmat, junoon. Ali Pam sey pyaar kerta hai uss key liye sab kuch kerney ko tayyar hai. Papa ney maa sey pyaar kiya tha unkey jaaney key chaubees saal baad bhi unhain bhula nahin paaye. Main chahti huun main bhi pyaar kerun kisi insaan sey .... aisey shakhs sey jo mujhey chahey jaisi main huun waisi bina koi tabdeeli ya badlaav key... Kiya pyaar aisa ho sakta hai?" There must be something to it that it provides so much to a person confidence and passion. Ali loves Pam and is ready to do anything for her. Papa loved my maa and can't forget her even after twenty four years of her death. I wish to love someone too. Someone who would love me for what I am.. without changing me. Can that happen? she had wanted to know. "Tujhey kyun lagta hai koi tujhey badalna chahyga... tuu jaisi hai waisi achi hai" Why do you think anyone would want to change you... you'r perfect the way you are? Milind had tried to keep his irritation in check. Why did she think so low of herself it angered him to see her that way he wanted her to be confident about herself, know that she was worth being loved. Prachi had looked up him startled even though his face remained expressionless his tone had conveyed his ire to her. "Aap bura maan gaye?" You'r angry she had mumbled "Nahin tera sawaal ghalat nahin per tuu kyun yeh sochti hai tuu jaisi hai waisi achi nahin"No you'r question's fine it's just why do you think you'r not good enough the way you are he had reprimanded her. "Har insaan eik jaisa nahin hota Prachi... or pyaar uskey baarey main itna hii keh sakta huun keh pyaar kiya nahin jaata ho jaata hai" No two people are the same... as for love you don't do it, it happens he had told her somberly getting up to leave it was past his bedtime. "Eik waqt aisa bhi aayega Prachi jab tera dil kisi key liye dharkeyga.... uski khushi uski muskaan terey liye sab sey ehm hogi... tab jaan jaana keh yeh pyaar hai... samjhi" There will be a time Prachi when your will beat for someone in patricular, his happiness and smile will mean the world to you... when that happens consider yourself in love he had smiled and she had smiled too atleast now she knew what to expect of when in love.

The next day Milind had left for Ali's garage after his day's work he needed to trace out Pam it was essential for his friend's happiness. He had gone there to see Ali's pals at work while Ali was unavailable he wondered where exactly it was that Ali had taken off to that afternoon "Suleman Ali kidhar hai?" Where is Ali? Milind had called out the boy busy welding a car door. "Ali bhai to haji darbar gaye hain" Ali has gone to Haji Ali's mausoleum he had replied offering Milind tea which he had waved off. "Kabhi gaya hai?" When did he leave? Milind had asked he needed to talk to Ali distancing himself from reality was not the solution. He would've left had he not spotted Pam wheeling her scooty in the workshop. "Where's Ali?" she had asked Suleman who had given her the same answer he had provided Milind with moments earlier. Milind noticed her face had lost its smile he hoped it was as he felt walking up to her he had exchanged greetings. "Didn't you just get it fixed a week back?" he had inquired pleasantly while Pam stared at him through her magnified eyes adjusting her glasses on the bridge of her nose she mumbled the reason for her arrival. "Uh.. um the wheel was acting funny" Milind noticed her knuckles whiten as she gripped the handle bar forcefully averting her gaze to his feet. "Sure it was... let me have a look I believe I can fix it" he had crouched near the rear tyre inspecting it, it was deflated "Yeah looks like some naughty kid was up with his tricks" he had smiled brightly he knew exactly what the problem was. He had seen Ali fix the tyre last week when he had come to get his gear box examined she probably had deflated it again herself. " I think I should go" she had wanted to escape his assessing eyes. "Well since the tyre's all funny and you probably will need a lift let me drop you to your destination" Milind had offered her a ride in the taxi.

"Uh no thanks" she had tried to wheedle away. "Hmm well I was planning on picking Ali up on the way you could tell him your problem then" "My problem" Pam had turned sharply... "your scooty and all" Milind had made peace guiding her to the taxi. She had handed the scooty over to Suleman who had winked at Milind it appeared Ali's secret was quite an open one atleast at the garage. Milind had driven to Piya Haji Ali's tomb located near the coast "Why are we here?" Pam had questioned confounded "I thought I told you we'd be picking up Ali" he had reminded her stepping out of the vehicle he stood waiting for her. They walked on the pathway their bare feet washed over by the cool sea water. Pam had never been to any such place before and found her skirt blouse extremely inappropriate for the occassion. Untying her scarf from around her neck she had tied it firmly around her head atleast it covered some part of her hair. They meandered through crowds that thronged the place each individual there for different reasons. "Haji Ali she had heard the name she knew Ali was a devotee he would often go there Suleman had told her about his visits earlier walking up the steps they entered the mausoleum together. A strong waft of fresh roses welcomed them while devotees stood praying silently Milind had spotted Ali standing near the marble structure surrounding the saint's grave. Asking Pam to stay put he had ambled upto his friend lost in conversation with God, his lips chanted silent prayers his eyes closed in concentration. Milind waited for a good fifteen minutes before Ali opened his eyes to see Milind stand beside him "Tu kab aaya?" When did you come? Ali had asked astounded. "Jo duaaein maang raha tha puuri kerney aaya huun" I just came to grant you all your wishes he had smiled and Ali had stared at him in bewilderment now what was Milind upto. They retreated to where Pam stood tying a colourful ribbon to the grill in the rear of the mausoleum. "Tum!" You!! Ali had cried in astonishment and she had raised her eyes to his. "He brought me here" she had pointed towards Milind who seemed to be engrossed in the colourful woolen ribbons. "What's this?" he asked Pam intrigued. "These are ribbons you tie them here and pray for happiness or anything else you want" she had narrated to him how she had come to know about it through a woman who was busy tying it earlier.

Both Ali and Milind had taken their ribbons and tied them following Pam's lead praying to find love, peace and happiness in their lives and of their loved ones. Finishing the chore Ali had turned to Milind "Issey yahaan kyun laaya?" Why did you bring her here? he had hissed angrily "Iss liye laaya takeh tuu iss sey apney dil kii baat keh sakeyr
" So that you could tell her what you feel for her Milind had tied to reason. Pam who had been within earshot had intervened "Can we leave now" she had inquired "Not before he tells you something" Milind had stalled her. The place they stood at was far from the resting place of the revered saint and a few people milled about, "Milind yeh kiya mazaq hai" Milind is this a joke? Ali had protested "Mazaq nahin sach hai tuu bata raha hai ya main bataun ussey kab tak chupaayega uss sey" No its not a joke either you tell her or I will till when do you intend to hide it from her? Milind had wanted to know. "What are you both talking about?" Pam had questioned restlessly this wasn't looking good to her at all. "You know Pam I think you need to talk to Ali, its high time he cleared up some things" Milind had told Pam in a serious tone. Leaving them both staring at his broad back Milind had left for home. He could do only this rest was upto them to figure out if indeed Ali loved Pam as much as he claimed to he would enlighten her on his thought process regarding her.

"So what is it that you wish to say Ali?" Pam had inquired looking at him inquisitively standing in the mausoleum Ali couldn't lie "I love you Pam... very much. I guess ever since I saw you I never knew how to put it to you I was scared you wouldn't accept me I'm neither rich nor handsome moreover I'm not even of your religion" he had enlightened her on the feelings he harboured for her in low tones and Pam's eyes had watered. "Why did you never tell me earlier Ali?" she had asked him and he had looked up at her in surprise. "Why do you think I came to your garage every second day, deliberately tampering with my stupid scooty. Just so that I could see you Ali, talk to you share a moment or two. You'r the only ray of sunshine in my life" she had wept and he had hugged her in elation. "I'm so sorry Pam I thought you didn't like me" "Why wouldn't I like you Ali you'r smart, handsome and I couldn't ever miss the way your eyes lit up when you saw me" she had told him releasing herself from his strong embrace. "It's just that I'm an orphan, don't have a family I thought your family wouldn't accept me neither would you " she sobbed mutely. "I really don't care about all this it's you I love not your family tree.... so wanna meet my maa?" he had inquired smiling and she had assented lowering her head shyly. "Will aunty like me Ali?" she had wanted to know. "Who wouldn't like you..." he had answered and they had left the tomb hand in hand their prayers had certainly been accepted and answered.

I hope you can read it now Gauri.

Well, well I am the first one to finish reading!
Munee yeh electricity, wounds and burns- hahaaa Michi ko kitne nazdeek laa rahe hain! Thanks to them.
Me too wanted to ask why Prachi injures herself all the time- well it works only in her benefit- Milind jo hain uska care karne ke liye!!!!

Loved how Milind got Ali and Pam to confess. Can't stop myself being jealous of BC for she got a ride in his taxi.

Can't wait for Michi to confess too with Prachi already talking about "pyar" and all.
thanks
