I believe its necessary to proceed with the story.. that is how she will get to know that its Omi who is faulty bot Alka and still she is mistreated.. its to show that how women are forced to hide their husbands incapibility where people point out only at females.. Kavya, just tried to help Alka like she did all other village women. Kavya tried to convey the message not to lose hope as they can still seek medical help. That's not wrong, that's progressive thinking.

Both Omi & Giriraj overreacted because they have male chauvinist mentality. They can't accept that they may need medical help, it just bruises their precious ego to accept that they may be at fault. So, Omi blames Alka..
