A day after unveiling his new show at a press conference in New Delhi, Shah Rukh Khan was expected to do the same in Mumbai yesterday (February 13th) but at the last minute he was advised to stay home and cancel any public appearances. Why? Many believe it is because of a controversial statement he made before the media in connection with the Raj Thackeray matter during the conference in Delhi.
On being questioned about the current protests in Maharashtra the actor replied, "I think everybody has the right to be in India, anywhere in the country and make it proud. A lot of these issues ….are more political than personal and I would not take any offence personally. I think an educated Indian would not do that either. I was always happy tot start something in Delhi which is my hometown. I know it is controversial to say that but…" he said with a smile.Shahrukh Khan hails from New Delhi as does his wife Gauri Khan.
Post his statements at the conference in Delhi on Tuesday (February 12th) afternoon security concerns arose which pushed the actor to lay low the following day.
A source close to the actor told us that Khan who is normally known for his diplomatic nature was quite upset with the current events taking place in the city.
"He didn't say something because he is from Delhi. It has nothing to do with that. He just felt that people who were innocent were being harmed. And Shah Rukh is very passionate and caring in nature. He doesn't like anyone being wronged. Even if the roles were reversed he would say the same thing," said the friend, "But with the volatile environment in the city the actor was advised to stay at home and not put himself in the line of fire."
The superstar is said to be tied up in a meeting all day on Thursday following which he is flying overseas for a few days.
