Dubey, who is from Guna, in Madhya Pradesh, is the first winner to hit the Rs 1 crore mark in the second season of KBC. A graduate in electrical engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal, he is married, and has a daughter.
"He was determined and wanted to make it through all the rounds. It was evident from the confidence he showed on the game show," said a source on the show. Dubey was unavailable for comment. KBC comparison
A majority of people aiming for the hot seat on the show are not from metros, but from small villages around the country.
Continues the source, "For KBC (first season), we had the capacity to handle about 3,00,000 calls per day and managed about nine crore calls spanning 309 episodes.
Mobile users could not participate using their mobiles in the first season. With KBC2, we have been able to get a much larger spread of people, with almost 75 per cent of calls coming from non-metros; and the top 20 cities (including metros) contributing to 45 per cent of calls received."
