on some level, katha does seem to trust him because she lets him help her. she is so self-sufficient that she wants to do things on her own. she took in the comfort and calm he was trying to give in the car and did not snap or push him away. he was steady as a rock and thought on his feet. definitely the kind of guy you want when things are going downhill. but it would not have mattered if katha had thrown his suggestions and run around like a mad rabbit. so she was willing to trust him -- my feel is that this is a case of mind vs heart.
in her mind, the things that happened because of the night makes her distrust him but her heart is at ease with him on some level which is why she is not repelled by him and running for her life. she fought with him like she had the haq to. and even now, she took his help even though her first instinct is to say "I will manage". she even let him drop her at the gareweals house. that it is a big deal for someone who would prefer to do things alone. so rather than take the auto and have a long ride there, she chooses to sit in the car with him because that was far more comfortable for her. she needed to not be alone while she was held in her fears of the world and what ifs....
