As for her, Katha is not his victim, she is a victim of circumstances. And eventually she has made the choice because she is in a desperate state. But she has remained strong willed and clear about her expectations, actions, and consequences.

That is the difffenece between the two of them. He is no “bechara” in his confusion, if anything it is post ONS, that he will become an emotional fool. She is a “bechari” of circumstances and if anything post ONS, she will have come stronger emotionally.

just as info: I have watched several turkish dizis especially in the melo genre and they tend to do far more layers to the characterization. even so called good characters make very questionable choices that have you groaning because you know it will come back to bite them in a big way. sometimes it will be even tragic. in comparison, ITV tends to be very literal and rather simple when it comes to characterization. we have good characters and bad characters. there is hardly any nuance to grey. if someone does something bad, they will just say 'sorry' and magically turn to good side. whereas, dizis spend tons of episodes on the journey. the characters do not change overnight at all. sometimes, as audience you will be yelling at the characters but it is the journey that keeps viewers glued. so viaan will squarely be in the grey and there will be a long journey. it will not be black and white if they are following the original.

it might seem there is no audience for such nuances in storytelling but the OTT platforms have showed there actually is an appetite for more complex stories. at least thats what all the artsy folks keep saying in interviews and they are encouraged to experiment.

so katha ankahee might be a step towards something in the middle of OTT and mainstream soaps based on a proven success dizi

we have a separate thread in this forum (OG thread for spoilers on turkish dizi) -- you can ask your question and anyone who has watched the original will answer. we are trying to keep DT as spoiler free as possible.

So I have a rule. I only watch 100 episodes of any ITV show. And then I stop cold turkey, for me that is the point when the show can be saved or not, or whether there is any direction of the show. My 100 episode rule has never disappointed, the shows have, but my rule hasn’t.

If they start showing our ML say a sorry and the next track is about how the sil and the fil do saazish and the mil turns negative becos she wants the grandson for herself and no one to marry Katha, I am out of here or will start an FF.

Between hooe they show the hotel room drama like OG bcz trust that one us also a hight light in OG leads just did a good job 👏

How is everybody doing? What a mind-boggling and a mind numbing episode😒

I bawled watching Aarav and Katha. She is holding on to him for comfort for the choice she is making with her life. Letha ji, thanks for bringing her line " I am doing whatever I am doing for myself, because without Aarav there is no mamma"😭 What a beautifully written line!

She is not going to blame anyone and is owning up to the choice she made consciously❤️. I am assuming and hoping we won't have to see guilt from her side, only stoicism and dignity, knowing this is the ONLY way left for her at the moment🤗She needs a great big hug, which she got from Aarav. The moment is too precious, her lying on the little boy's chest as he tries to console her😭 The little boy sensing that all is not well, while she tries to gently extricate herself😭 God, that packed a punch in the gut. Her taking his picture along with her to give her the courage😭 Aditi deserves a lot of appreciation and kudos for this portrayal. Nothing over the top, she is devastated, shocked and almost in a daze as she goes about her routine. I thought for a moment that she is going to break in front of Rewa, but she is in too much of a daze, to not even have a steady gaze.

Ehsan suspects something wrong with Viaan too, but backs off from his personal space. Nice touch that even as a friend, you can't be overbearing and respect that space👍🏼Mom is completely useless and clueless.

I just loved the MIL and her dejected lines- so true in that generation, a woman's independence came with conditions, for the most part. I hope we can break free of those conditions to have our own purely independent thoughts and ability to act on those. I am done with this FIL guy, seems like he will relent after the fact

OK, now to Viaan's angst, I am having a difficult time understanding. He is mourning that his skewed ideas are turning out to be correct. Understood. He was hoping that Katha would somehow prove him wrong and that he could use her as a first step as he comes out of his negative view of the world/women. Fair enough. It didn't happen and so he is angry, confused, sad and defeated. But, what is forcing him to go through with the one nighter? Who is holding him at gunpoint to go through with the deed? His money, his filthy proposal, his stupidity, his jumbled belief.

Understand Katha's desperation to go through with the deed. She has no other choice and hence made a very, very difficult choice for her own benefit. She is not blaming anyone about this. But, what is Viaan's compulsion? Can he not remove the ONS from the table, and say, Katha, forget I spoke nonsense, here is the money as a loan/ in exchange for the night, but why does he have to do the deed in exchange?😒Especially when he seems to be agonized and repulsed by the thought of an emotionless act. He is acting as if it is a package deal money and one nighter come together. Koi rule book hain kya?

I am still holding on to my hypothesis, he won't be able to do the deed😊. Sedative + alcohol for Katha will zonk her out ( like that of GHB) and she thinks the deed is done. He, on the otherhand will probably agonize over his own stupidity of putting forth the proposal, and her supposed " betrayal" as in she didn't stand up to his expectations and roam around in a foul mood before knowing what he did🤢The actor did a good job having to portray his complexity, his confusion, his angst especially when the story is not telling us explicitly where he is coming from.

One last thing: do we think he will ever compare and contrast between himself and the other female employee whom he fired because she came on to him? I know Katha agreed, but this is also sexual harassment at the work place na, an indecent proposal of money in exchange for a night time.......

I am left confused, but the episode is extremely thought provoking. Loved it.......

mili -- haven't watched the episode yet (will do it in a while) but in regards to your question -- "But, what is Viaan's compulsion? here is my random thought: are you familiar with the term punch dialogues? you always have them in south indian masala movies and those lines can be hilarious.

"if I say it once, then I have said. even if I come (my conscience/spirit) and tell, I won't change my mind"

another punch -- "I am not one of those idiots who leaves the field midway. once I step in, I won't leave without winning"

both these punches from different movies highlight a hero who is so decisive that he won't back down even if there are negative consequences. he is relentless when it comes to attacking the villain and keeps at it even when tragedy strikes.

while I love those punches, I also thought was kind of dumb because you should be able to change your mind. however, that is the negative side of decisiveness.

I do think the reason viaan (as well as papaG) come across as confusing is because we are not used to seeing such decisive MLs 🤣

ITV is mostly filled with MLs who are easily manipulated. viaan isn't the ML stuck between two sisters or the one who gets married to someone because he doesn't want to hurt mama. this isn't that type of ML -- viaan doesn't care about your feelings and will tear you down instead because he is so decisive. 😂

now in real life, decisive men are usually successful because they don't stop in the face of challenging circumstances. even if they are filled with doubt or confusion, they are always steaming ahead. now, that can also be a flaw because you have to know when to listen to your gut and maybe turn around. it is not silly to turn around is a huge lesson that decisive personalities need to learn -- can be difficult. that will be part of viaan's journey.

the other aspect of why viaan is not backing out is that there is no free lunch. one of my aunts always says this -- say your servant has borrowed money. it is not going to affect your house but you still ask for it back anyway to ensure they don't take advantage of you in the future. otherwise, they will think you are a doormat and start fleecing you. while that sounds like negative thinking, unfortunately, it does happen. so you have to be wise to know when to forgive a debt (or give without conditions) and when to make it clear that this isn't a free lunch. here, viaan hasn't learned that difference.

we have to remember that he does not know katha. she hasn't worked very long with this company (is it a month? 3 months?) and she is asking for a huge amount (50-100 times her salary). every woman who breaches boundaries has tried to take advantage of him (that co-worker). so he is trying to protect himself by closing this deal and ensure this is one time night. kind of absurd but chalo, lets roll with it. otherwise, where is the story eh? 😆
