Earlier this month, Nikkhil Arya lashed out at Balaji Telefilms and Ekta Kapoor in an interview to the television magazine Showtime. His outspoken rant created quite a stir in teleland, after he gave quotes like, 'My mama never raised a chicken, so if somebody wants me to be a puppet, it's never going to happen,' (referring to Kapoor).
Underground
However, the actor might just have to go underground for a while as sources close to Nikkhil reveal he's been receiving death threats since the interview.
An actor friend says, "Nikkhil was ready for the backlash; he knew exactly what he was doing. The reaction has been mixed. Some actors have lauded him for speaking his mind, while others have sided with Ekta and tried to put him down."
When asked about the nature of threats he's been getting, Nikkhil says, "When the time is right, I will disclose the entire story in a book. I think the content might make an excellent Bollywood film. For the time being, however, I wouldn't want to say anything."
Talking about the reaction he's received post the interview, Nikkhil says, "I love my freedom. If anyone takes that away from me, I won't sit quietly. Several actors have called and supported my stand."
Taking time
He's not worried about work not coming his way after walking out of Balaji. In fact, Nikkhil says he wants to take time off and decide what path he wants to walk on. "I definitely want to continue acting. It's my first love. But now I have to decide the nature of work I will accept. I have the liberty to take some time off before doing that."
