I couldn't agree more to this fact that each and every individual irrespective of their gender, should be financially independent! Though, I somehow don't feel that this financial independence comes only when a person, a woman goes out to work and earns for herself! Ofcourse, I respect all those women working day in and day out to earn their bread and butter. Whether a women is working mainly for providing a financial assistance to her family or just for her passion, she deserves great respect in either case.
Coming to the ladies who choose to be home-makers and are happy and content with what they have chosen for themselves. Are they not financially independent? I don't feel so! No matter how big or small a family is, each family member is inter-linked to each other. One may choose to earn for the family, while one may choose to run the house, as a home-maker. Independence, no matter which one it is, comes when a person feels secured on and at all levels. So, if a non-working lady feels financially secured by whatever means, she is financially independent too. People have different dreams, some of which might look petty to others but as long as one feels happy, content and secured with those dreams, on the journey of fulfilling those dreams and after achieving those dreams.... He/She is Independent!
I think it's not the first time and it's definitely not the first show where something got stereotyped as "Middle-Class". We have heard related dialogues in many ITV shows and BW movies, as well. So, I don't understand what surprise people found here! I have seen many people using such references in real life too. The term "Middle-Class" is itself one stereotypical term! We in majority, from generations are accustomed to use and stereotype "Middle-Class" word with simple and mediocre things in life. And if Prerna's simple dreams are referred to as "Middle-Class" dreams.... I don't find it wrong or any sort of glorification or gender/class-discrimination happening here, what so ever!
