The article says there were 197 million TV viewing households in 2018. Even if one takes 1 percent of that population, the device should be installed in around 2 million households for representing one percent of sample size. The few thousands are not representative at al.l. Hence, I do not find it representative of India's TV viewing demographics whether a Show's rating (i.e. any Show) increases or decreases, barring a few, probably.

So yup... that is it for me.

Ya this article gives lof of insite to it. Before KZK i used to only hear about trp but now seeing all the increase and decrease i feel its more than what we see.👍

There is no official body who give out Online data and hence BARC is considered imp .

Gossip tv just collects the episode discussions , trending , articles and views to collate this standings .

I am not sure about ads but i think they are earning enough profit from subscribers and also partner with amazon samsung and roku that they dont need other ad resources as revenu here. They are trying to operate just like netflix and amazon prime here.

As for TRP is concern i think they just mean viewership and trp is just used a general term. That way they can calculate what works on online base and what not since that is also one resources for them to earn money. So i dont think online trp or viewship isn't fake its just a statstics tool to get the feedback on respective shows.

But in India, I THINK you can watch on hot star without membership. Also, your membership doesn’t mean you are watching Kasautii. you may have joined for any show but doesn’t mean you will stop membership if that show ends...

I know business insider did an article in 2017 re Nielsen ratings using sound waves or something like that to measure streaming viewership. Idk if India has adopted that tech yet. I will find that article and post it here, it was interesting.

Anyways, online TRP is messy and complicated cuz There are so many variables. Also, someone who watched it on TV can watch online, so that’s double counting?

One thing is that Online vs Actual TRP mostly contrast. Like this Sony Tv show- yeh un dino ki baat haï, would be highest on Online TRP but never even chart on actual TRP. And, even kundal Bhagya isn’t even mentioned but no one can deny it’s the TOP show for 2 years straight. So though the landscape is changing, for a channel that relies on ad money where companies buy ad space in millions of dollars and run ads, they would choose to relyTv TRP ?
