Two words : internalized misogyny.
In Ekta's words : On TV you idolize a woman and fantasize a man
male character, irrespective of what they are .. white, grey , black ..shaded ... they will be fantasized for looks, style, dialogues whatever ... as "most" of the tv audience are females
on the other hand women characters are idolized and are expected to be epitome of strength, character and conviction ... hence female characters with flaw or grey tone are bracketed as "vamps " even if it's as simple as a jealous devrani ... or an insecure saasuma...
female characters have no buffer to err , while the male characters do have a lot of buffer .. they will still be fantasized
and in this age kya male , kya female .. every character is called out ,. even a male character is expected to be on the lines of "righteousness" and "virtues"
since u haven't watched any episodes this season , not posting abt any characters , hence a generic reply
I would be left with nothing to say if you call Komolika a grey character.
This lady murdered a man, and almost murdered another man aka Moloy because she wants to have Anurag. Now, a lot of people would have a hard time accepting that a murderer who went on killing people for having someone out of her obsession/love whatever to be a grey character and not a black one so apparently, only the people who can accept a murder done out of selfish desires can even try shipping Anurag and Komolika is what I feel.
Yes characters portrayal is different. But who decides the portrayal of the characters. Writers and the audience. Just like they are giving or will give Rishab a redemption arc so that he can eventually be with Prena will they ever think of doing the same with Komo. The audience is ready to get over all Rishab did and ship Rishab and Prena. Can any one even think of getting over what Komo did and ship Komo and Anurag? I don’t think it will ever happen. And the reason , Bajaj is a male character and Komo a female character. A female character should be only goody two shoes to get love and happiness. But a male character can do anything and get away with anything and still get love and happiness. The difference in standards is what bothers me.Originally posted by: tanvismile
Well said 😆
The way of portrayal of characters is different so the reactions also different but I think in today's times people are intelligent enough to understand prerna s side also.
During previous season it was easier to accept relationship between prerna and bajaj but in today's times to many of us it's unacceptable.

Ok first I just want to say I haven’t watched a single episode of this serial. So I don’t know the details. All I know is the story from season 1 and promos and little bit of the forum I have read. So discussion is also general. Generally in any serial, movie or book Hollywood or Bollywood female characters get more hatred and absolutely no redemption . A greyish or villianish female character will always be a vamp who doesn’t deserve love or redemption and greyish or villianish male character is the hottest thing around who deserves all he wants in life😆. It’s a very very universal thinking and exists from silly Hollywood teen movies to silly Ekta K serials. And it’s something that gets my blood boiling. Komolika manipulates into marrying Anurag because she loves him or whatever but she doesn’t deserve a redemption arc to get her true love. No one even thinks of shipping Komolika and Anurag because well Anurag and Prena love each other. But Rishab forces Prema to marry him and going by season1 story he will get a redemption arc and people can still ship Rishab and Prerna knowing that Prena and Anurag love each other. Of course Komolika being a female character can never get that. She is forever doomed to be a vamp. Now apparently Rishab who forced a girl who is in love with some one else to marry him can be forgiven but the girl whom he forced to marry will still be judged for following her heart and her feelings. Worse expectation is Prerna should forgive and move on with Rishab who forced her to marry him and separate from the love of her life but there is absolutely no expectation from Rishab who claims to love Prena that let Prena go free and be with the one she loves. If he truly loves her then let her be happy with one she loves. But no expectation is from Prena . Forgive the man who took away your happiness, move on with him and love him but Rishab can’t even be expected to say a sorry for all he has done.😆 Matlab no matter what female characters have the worst.
Agree with the bold part😄. And that (mindset) needs to change
About the female lead character in the show, like someone said, blame the writers here. It’s time they give her a spine to stand up & speak up. It does not help her or her loved ones if she stays quite & bottles it all up. She needs to stop being this sacrificial woman & lover. She has to respect & love herself first & foremost. No amount of crying or pushing away her love will get her anywhere. She needs to make up her mind, open up with the truth. It’s not just her ( but her unborn child’s ?? ) future too to think about. She plainly refuses to do that. 😟

I don't want to involve anurag and bajaj in this topic at all. Let's keep them aside and let's just analyse how her character is shaped up in this last one year.
She hasn't finished her graduation, she has no career ambitions whatsoever, she is from a middle class family and the first and foremost important thing in life to the middle class girl is her education and career.
I have no issues with her love or her so called this great sacrifice tag that she is carrying in this show since the show started.
It's 2019,and every girl has to be self dependent in the first place, but prerna is not. She needs someone or other to bail her out always in her life whenever she is in crisis.
So how anyone can expect in today's times to get connected with her?
19 years ago when the last season was aired, even then we saw how much she was interested to have a career of her own and was independently handled so many situations alone without the help of any of the male characters.
Even then she was deeply and madly in love with anurag. But she never lost her self respect for the sake of her love. She always gave priority to that self respect and always stood for herself. She stood for her family after her father passed away and proved how good daughter she is.
If they can show that 19 years ago, why not now.
The writers failed to sketch her character properly since the start.
A woman is more than just a lover, wife and mother.
Let me tell you I'm a male myself. but the way this show showed her as if it's always from a male leads point of view is totally wrong.
Last season it was prerna's story, her journey, it's from her point of view but this season it seams its all about how the males want her to act or behave is more important than what female wants.
There is no consistency in her character in this show. So sorry I can't connect with her.
I can't even connect with the male lead is a different topic altogether which is not required in this topic.
I will write about that in detail, if someone makes a post on male lead separately.
Da, this is absulotely brilliant...ekdum seeti waali post 👏

I think the hatred for female characters comes from wish fulfilment. They don't identify with the female character, they just see her as a blank canvas and insert themselves into the story as her to enjoy a romance with a male of their choice. When she doesn't do what they'd like her to do, they get frustrated with her and bash her.
That's what it seems like to me.
As for Kasauti, while I have no problems with grey characters and their romance with someone good (e.g. Catwoman with Batman), in Kasauti the villains are proper black. Too dark to be paired with the leads.
I wouldn't ship Komolika and Anurag simply because of the fact that she tried to kill his dad, killed the father of the woman he loves and tried to kill the said woman in front of everyone.
I wouldn't ship Bajaj with Prerna because he's sinister, extremely selfish and a very very sick soul who loves playing mind games. Probably got some people assassinated too.
kuch bhi

I hope I am misunderstanding what you have written and that you are NOT trying to say that the viewers of S1 were less intelligent, and hence PRB were accepted

Thank you manasi, I don't believe in going round and round like how the show is going past two months without any progress.
