Okay. So I read the 1st two teasers and then somehow missed the rest of the updates. Finally caught up with the newest chapter. The story is so intriguing. The trailer was just...so so good. Prerna is someone who is naive, hopeful, believes in the good In people but the circumstances she survives force her to change into someone she doesn't recognize. 'The death certificate of what they had' - were they married? And then she's accused of murder. I love how you've written Rishabh Bajaj. He saves Prerna from taking her life by reminding her that though a stupid spineless mumma's boy doesn't love her, she has a whole family who does. Eager for the next update and for the mystery to unravel. Update soon.

SEVEN

When Prerna entered her home, she swore that something was amiss. She looked down.

Her dupatta was gone. It flew away when she was running like a mad woman on the streets of Kolkata.

But something else was missing. It hit her like a train wreck.

Her bag, her books, her phone.

She had left her belongings on her desk in the Economics classes.

God! How could she be so careless? She left her effing belongings on her seat. What if someone took it? What if a creep went through her phone. She hadn't even put a lock on her phone.

She had an instant urge to bang her head on the wall.

She raised her hand, she didn't even realize that she was still clutching Mr. Bajaj's handkerchief. It smelt like him.

Cinnamon, sweet smoke and his exclusive perfume. If only she could bottle that fragrance.

She had an instant urge to sniff it but checked herself.

She entered the living room.

Her mother was seated on the sofa, she was crying. Shivani and Bhabhi were consoling her. Shivani was rubbing her back while Suman Bhabhi held her arm. It cut her deep to see her mother suffering. And she hated herself for being the reason because of which her mother was suffering.

Her father was pacing around the living hall, talking to someone on his cellphone.

"No, she isn't back yet. Yes, yes," he said.

Mahesh was slumped on his usual seat at the dining table. Kriti was patting him.

She must've seen her running and told her family.

Shekhar Bhaiya was sitting on the sofa across their mother. He had a worried expression. His eyes were a little misty.

Her family. Her greatest strength.

Mr. Bajaj was right. What the hell was she doing?

How could she neglect her family. Her family had always been her first and foremost priority.

Shekhar bhaiya was the first one to see her. He heaved a sigh of relief and rushed towards her. He engulfed her in an embrace.

She was shocked. Sure, she and Shekhar bhaiya loved each other but he wasn't the one for affectionate gestures.

"God, Prerna Sharma. You don't use the brains you were born with," his voice was gruff.

She hugged him back. "I'm sorry, bhaiya."

The rest of the family descended upon her. She couldn't breathe but she could practically feel their love on her skin. As if she would drown.

Her mother kissed her forehead and embraced her again. Her father embraced her next.

Next were Shivani and Mahesh who practically choked the living life out of her.

Kriti was the last one to embrace her.

She stepped back and caressed her cheek.

"I'm glad you're okay."

"So am I," Prerna replied back.

Dadi came out of her room and nearly collapsed with relief when she saw Prerna. Prerna caught her in time and hugged her tightly.

"My poor child. Why must you suffer so?" Her Dadi lamented.

But Prerna realized,"It was necessary to realize an important lesson. Family is first and foremost."

Two hours later, she and her family sat huddled in her room.

It was decided that Kriti would night stay at Sharma Niwas.

It was good because Prerna had a lot to tell her.

"What happened? What did Anurag say to you?" Asked Shivani.

At the mention of Anurag, Prerna's heart ached.

She looked down at her lap. "He wanted to end things between us."

Her mother gasped. "I should've known. He's Mohini's son after all."

Everyone in her family was outraged. Her brothers were acting all possessive and making plans to make Anurag pay.

"We should put lice in his hair," Mahesh suggested. "It will fall in his food and he'll eat them."

Everyone groaned.

But her father only shook his head, disappointed.

"I expected better from that boy," he mused. "What a shame. What happened afterwards?"

"I lost it. I ran and ran until I reached the cliff. I would've jumped if it wasn't for Mr. Bajaj. He talked me out of commiting suicide," she looked at her father. "He saved me, Baba. He gave me new strength."

She told them the abridged version cutting out the parts she wanted to keep for Kriti.

"He seems like a good person," Veena said after a brief silence. "There truly is a God."

"Of course. But he has revived my faith in the kindness of strangers," Prerna smiled. "He really is a good man.

Around the same time, Rishabh Bajaj was pacing in his bedroom in the Bajaj Mansion.

Today's events running through his mind nonstop.

"You're a good person," her voice kept repeating as if in a loop.

He had done a good thing. Saving an innocent girl's life. It wasn't like him but he couldn't let someone end their lives because of a spineless boy who didn't have it in him to fight for his love.

Younger these days. They have the courage to love and make promises but not enough to fulfill them

But why the heck was he thinking about this? He shook his head and sat on the sofa. He picked up the file and started flipping through it. It had become a routine. Flipping through that file every night.

To remind himself of his mission.

The clock ticked. It was half past twelve in the night. Prerna lay tossing and turning in her bed.

She gazed at the ceiling.

Mr. Bajaj's words were running like a nonstop loop in her mind. She smiled.

The man seemed even more of a mystery after today's incident but one thing was sure. Prerna had made an acquaintance with Mr. Bajaj if not a friendship. And since he saved her life. He had somehow become her friend.

She got up and went towards the window.

Kriti was fast asleep. Moonlight was pouring on her, bathing her. She leaned against the wall and watched the moon.

"Thank you, Mr. Bajaj," she whispered and smiled.

___________________________________________________

Rishabh Bajaj would never admit but it was one if his habits. Looking at the moon at night.

His mother used to do it. And he did it after she left. In a way to stay connected with her.

"You're a good boy, Rishu," she had said. "A kind soul."

A broken but kind soul. He heard Prerna's voice.

You're a good man, Mr. Bajaj. Thank you.

The moonlight bathed him. The cool breeze kissed him. And after a long time, Rishabh Bajaj smiled without a reason.
