TWELVE
Prerna was still clutching Mr. Mr. Bajaj's hand as she led him out of the cafe leaving a despondent Anurag behind.
Out in the open, she dropped Mr. Bajaj's hand and let out a ragged sigh. She shut her eyes furiously to prevent the tears from falling.
No matter what she did? Anurag was always there to make her life worse. He wouldn't let her move on.
And she was furious at herself for letting him affect her. How weak could she get?
Mr. Bajaj produced a white linen handkerchief and handed it to her. Grateful , she took it and wiped the damned tears that threatened to fall.
She had her back to him. She couldn't let him see that she let Anurag affect her after what Mr. Bajaj had told her.
She didn't want him to think that she was hopeless. That she was weak. She didn't want Mr. Mr. Bajaj to be disappointed in her. He was the only person in her life she hadn't disappointed till now.
And honestly, he had entered her life as a hurricane and wreaked havoc. But whatever he did changed her into someone stronger. How could she let him down?
"Ms. Sharma, I think it's about time that I thank my staff for putting handkerchiefs in my jackets," said Mr. Bajaj, drily.
And Prerna, despite herself let out a little laugh. Her tears finally drying. "Yes you should."
"So many women to comfort and so little time," Mr. Bajaj sighed.
Prerna giggled, "Poor you. How many women do you go around supporting and encouraging?"
She meant it as a joke but Mr. Bajaj replied seriously, "Just one."
Prerna's silly little heart started banging in her chest. And suddenly it was all too much.
Bearing Anurag, not seeing Mr. Bajaj's face, his compassion for her, his breath, his fragrance, his voice which was now making Prerna heady. She couldn't feel her feet. She gulped hard.
She could feel his warmth radiating from his body and affecting her back. She could feel his proximity. When she turned around to finally look at him, his face was serious but not masked. For the first time, he looked pained. His eyes showed some sort of hurt and anguish and something incredibly sweet and she just wanted to bask it in.
His pain and compassion and wrap it around her. For a moment they both stood still, watching each other. Prerna's hands ached, her body ached to touch something. Feel something. she wanted someone to hold her.
For a moment it seemed that the world stopped.
It was just them. Nothing else mattered.
Not the fact that Anurag had dumped her. Not that her relatives scorned her, not the fact that she was feeling something for Mr. Bajaj.
All that mattered was them.
And Prerna slipped. Mr. Bajaj caught her by the arms in just time, broken out of his gaze.
"You're exhausted," he said. "Let's go."
Prerna nodded. It was Mr. Bajaj who held her hand and led her into the building.
She was too absorbed by him to notice that everyone was watching them. Their jaws were open. Mr. Bajaj led her into his elevator.
__________________________________________________
When the elevator stopped, they both got out of it. Mr. Bajaj was still holding her arm. And though her palms were sweating. She liked it.
And her heart was still banging.
When they entered his office, they both stopped in their tracks. A woman was facing them.
A drop dead gorgeous woman with long wavy brown hair, dressed in a white dress. She looked a vision. And she was smiling at Mr. Bajaj .
"Rishabh," she said, warmly. With a dazzling smile that made Prerna nervous and meek.
Mr. Bajaj dropped her hand, "Maya."
What the hell?
Why was Mr. Bajaj looking like he was glad to see this Maya?
Maya walked over to them and to horrors of horrors hugged Mr. Bajaj. Her Mr. Bajaj.
Prerna felt nauseous. She was sure she was going to faint. Or throw up. Or both. On this Maya's expensive dress and thousand dollar pump bottoms.
Tears welled up in her eyes and she looked down to the ground.
Then finally she released Mr. Bajaj and looked at Prerna.
She smiled a gorgeous smile that would've won hundred of hearts. But it wasn't pleasant. It looked dangerous. Mighty dangerous like finely honed blade.
She extended her hand. "Maya. Maya Oberoi. You must be Prerna. I've heard a lot about you."
Her voice was sweet but it was clear that her voice wasn't accustomed to sweetness.
Her voice was accustomed to being heard. Acknowledged and obeyed. She was the queen of this chess and Mr. Bajaj was the king.
And Prerna felt like a pawn.
really good update. your story is progressing really nicely. please update soon.
Prerna is still upset about her ex, it would take some time to come out of this. She didn't want Bajaj to see her like this vulnerable and weak, she doesn't want to disappoint him. The way he changed her mood just by one statement❤️. Just one woman and then what following is amazing. She is completely a gone case and she could read his pain. So they did create a scene in front of everyone, all are in shock seeing them together😆.
Maya entered and My Mr. Bajaj started😉. Prerna is possessive and she is sad looking their hug. This Maya looks negative or she is positive in making Prerna jeolous.
Lovely update. Please do continue soon.
Interesting update👏
Loved PreRish's moment❤️
Maya is very mysterious
Waiting for next
Heyyyy nice update .. loved it !!
The story has become so gripping now with the new entry and Prerna's newfound possessiveness towards Mr Bajaj. She felt bad when the woman hugged her Mr Bajaj.
Maya looks negative but I know she's fated to be the reverse cupid. 😆
Please continue soon.
THIRTEEN
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Asked Rishabh, annoyed.
Maya and him were in his office. The moment they had entered, Maya locked the door and turned around to look at him.
And now 7 minutes later, she was still staring st him.
As if he was of some different species altogether.
She was scrutinizing him and sizing him up.
And it irked him.
"Seriously Maya, what is it?" He asked, more gently.
"I'm wondering. Who are you and what have you done with Rishabh Bajaj?" She asked, her voice was like honey.
Her brows were furrowed, her arms crossed.
Her long hair were left open.
She was dressed completely in white as always.
And for the first time Rishabh realized that he had missed her.
Truly missed her. These past weeks had been tough dealing with arrogant morons like Junior Basu.
His eyes softened. "I missed you, Maya."
Maya only smiled. "I know."
Maya, his friend, his sister, his confidant.
"You've changed," she said.
"How so?"
"You care for her, " she replied, ignoring his question. "Prerna, you care for her."
"Of course I do, she's my employee," he replied, nonchalantly.
"Of course," Maya snorted. "Just for how many employees do you go out of the way to help? Offer extra time to teach. Save their lives, coach them on their lives. Mehra told me everything."
Rishabh didn't reply. He just turned his back on her and walked towards the balcony, gazing at the city.
"Don't turn your back on me, Rishabh," she said, walking towards him.
Her heels clicking.
"Don't get too attached to her. Once the truth comes out, she'll hate you forever and you'd have become too attached to her by then," she said. "What if she betrays you and helps the Basus."
"Prerna is loyal. She has integrity," he pointed out,his back to Maya.
"And she's also a young woman in love. People do crazy things I love. You out of all people should know that, given your history," she retorted back.
Rishabh sighed. He knew that he won't win this argument.
"She holds you in high esteem, Rishabh. I saw it and when you sent her home, she looked disappointed. She cares for you too. Too much for our plans."
"I won't let her interfere with our plans. She's a pawn in my intricate game. Do you truly think that I would be so naive to be interested in a girl who played soulmate soulmate in 21st century. What kind of a fool do you take me for?" He smirked. "I've done all this for a purpose. I'm a grandmaster in chess. This is my game. My players. I've already set up the situation and I know how everyone will react. She may love Anurag Basu but when the time comes, she'll hand me the keys to Basus destruction herself."
And it was true. What he said. But only part of it was true.
Rishabh knew that and so did Maya.
"By the way, what's our next move?" Asked Maya.
"Let the news of our surprise takeover of Jindhal Publications leak. Not officially of course, but through underground means," he said and lit a cigar.
It was time to go for the kill.
