I know I have opened up a Pandora's box by putting it out here. We are an amazing nation of cultures which are so stark and different from each other yet we all celebrate all the festivals and rejoice in it together. Agreed. We respect the cultural differences but sadly don't know about the real culture of the geographical regions. That makes us oblivious to each other's cultural relevance.
Why don't we have stories far from the North East or from Kerala, because regional TV exists here and Hindi speaking audience remains oblivious to the rich culture and traditions of that geographical region? That's where great storytelling lacks in ITV. You go to Bengal, not a single home is like the sets of KZK or a single celebration like that shown. Bengalis have a special way of styling their homes which includes the Richie rich ones too. Great storytelling is about keeping at least the cultural relevance. But like you said, the mass audience doesn't really care about storytelling.
So, the best is to sit back and enjoy
