I loved it too. He brings a certain panache to the screen. However, I completely agree with your last line. He needs to bring in the depth that Asad brought, more than the charisma he brought as Armaan.

Asad wasn't a star at all. He was a character beyond anyone's depth and KSG delved into those abysses and drowned in them and made Asad into a star.

Here, he's stepped into Bajaj's shoes as a star, and maybe that's why I felt the depth was missing. Moreover, it's only the first episode so I guess I'd give it time. Idk if anyone's watched QH and how much you guys have watched, but in this particular scene, he acts ruthless and suave with this woman and strikes a deal with her to arrange his sister's wedding. That was a ruthless business channelised beautifully. Undoubtedly, he did a great job today however, the focus has to be on Bajaj the character with layers and not Bajaj, the Season 1 icon and poster boy of television brought back. Idk if I am making any sense but yeah. 😆

HEYY, I know you from the Karnsangini forum!! Glad to see you here! You're right, KSG as Asad was incredible. Gul's best hero, best actor etc. I think I agree with your last paragraph. I am not sure if it's the long break, because let's be real, acting is both talent and practice. But we'll see how he does further because I'm definitely intrigued by the character. Like you said, he needs to bring the depth of Asad...however the writing in this probably won't allow him.

Also, to add on to your point, I also felt that they focused on Bajaj as an established icon, rather than building up to his character. Which is why there was a mild disconnection. In medias res treatment of characters is very disorienting and Ekta does that in her spinoffs all the time.

I don't think anyone with any credibility claims that KSG is a bad actor. But people have their fan preferences and subjective perspectives.

Hey, what's up? I stopped watched the serial ages ago, they ruined it so badly, isn't it? Could have been so much better. Sad. Anyway, back here.

I am fangirling over his punchlines and oozing charm, and style and attire and shit, it's all awesome. But then, I fell for KSG coz of the sheer brilliance he brought to the screen. And he's capable of that and more. But, but, that's possible only if they drop this Bajaj legacy. So, in Season 1, Bajaj was introduced as a character, and then he rose to prominence because of his characterisation and the actor's portrayal etc. And became iconic.

They are burdening this new character with that legacy, without realising that Season 1 Bajaj became legendary because of the acting and character and not coz it was deemed legendary.

Here Bajaj's character is already deemed awesome and iconic, and that's how they have been promoting the character too. Bajaj does this, Bajaj does that.

Digressing a bit here, if you watched Padmavat, I had a similar issue with Ratan Singh's character coz he was deemed to be powerful and brave coz he was a Rajput. Something similar could have happen here if they aren't careful enough. Anyway, let's give it some time and see. They'll have to add some layers, right now it's just the business side.

Very well expressed! The character is so iconic and elevated that if they focus upon RB the icon, the character development of RB 2.0 would suffer. The original character was built from scratch and rose to lofty heights due to the reasons you mentioned.

One can't expect the rebooted version to attain a similar legendary status riding upon its predecessor's legacy. As a fan of the original character played by RR, I expect a proper development to be able to connect to its successor. The iconic status might work in the initial episodes, but after that phase gets over, majority of the load would shift to the contemporary character.

Don't even remind me of that show ugh. What could have been...I literally hate Indian Television. They can't even do justice to epic figures.

Anyway, this is a great post. You always know what to point out. You're completely right about burdening him with legacy. There is excessive "tell" and nearly not enough "show." Ekta made the exact same mistake with Komolika, started her character midway. I think she is doing the same thing here. Bajaj is already threatening Anurag etc without any buildup of his character details and background. This is why I am sure that Ekta will fail this character and KSG's potential. If he is supposed to be a parallel lead and have some angle with the heroine, how exactly will people root for him? Where's the buildup? I don't know why her work is so half-baked now. Her shows have always been terrible but they at least had a certain charm before. Characters weren't as one-dimensional and random. I think we all know that KSG will have to uplift this to the best of his ability. Bajaj is intriguing but he won't be developed properly. This is from the same woman who created a character like Prem/Yudi in the first season ugh. And quite right about Padmavat, I can definitely see it.

I never watched Season 1, but yeah, this excitement and hype can work for a short while. After that, if these 10-12 punchlines everyday, saying Bajaj does this, Bajaj is that, Bajaj doesn't celebrate success etc. have to reduce and they have got to build it. But let's see, they could do it. They have time. And KSG is a great actor, so it's cool.

I guess she did it with Komolika too, but about that. Less said the better. I love Bajaj's casting this time around, and so slightly biased towards him. He's got some massive fan following from DMG, QH days and then there are people who cue in due to the hype and there are people who watch for the story, some watch for the acting. So unless Ekta horrible botches up the story, he can pull this off. But for this Bajaj to become iconic they have got to go more than punchlines man.

There should be a back story as to why he's threatening Anurag. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. And, I am guessing the Prerna angle would make it more interesting. Coz this time, there are people rooting for the couple. LOL.

I am ready to give her time and develop it well and not just bank on past glory. Let's see.

I am not sure, I do think characters like him need extra attention of writers. And the writers in KZK2...yeah anyway. We'll see I suppose. I have subzero faith in Ekta lol.

Now, regarding Bajaj, it's only his first episode but I liked this version of Bajaj. I can explain why. This character reminds me of Ekta's vintage heroes from her glory days such as Angad, Sujal, Robbie, Arjun etc who were always morally flawed, angsty and borderline problematic. She has mellowed her heroes down to a very black-white level complexity now and I personally am not a fan. I don't particularly enjoy ~bad boys onscreen but there should be some layers, some intriguing qualities to a hero-figure. Ekta's current Bajaj is an obvious throwback to her vintage heroes. But I feel her team is just not capable of exploring this sort of character anymore. Her current shows and (most) newer characters are essentially mono-dimensional and bland. All thanks to her boring KKB-formula. She simply doesn't have it in her to construct and deconstruct characters like these. Not anymore. So it's pointless to expect her to do justice to this Bajaj.

Regarding KSG himself, I have heard plenty of complaints online since the morning so I was naturally predisposed to dislike him. But I surprisingly found myself enjoying the abrasiveness and confidence he brings to this version. Ronit's Bajaj was in a very different show, KSG's Bajaj fits into the environment of this particular show. This is only an unsure observation but I also feel that his acting is better now. More subtle and cinematic. He had a terrible tendency of breaking into television histrionics before. He is more balanced now. But this poses a problem. I can already visualize his relatively understated style being extremely out of place in this show.

Additionally, I think he still channels Armaan whenever he has to play a bold and confident character. Hence, his dialogue delivery falls into a hyper, slack-jawed style. Less of Armaan's levity and more of Asad's gravitas please.

Thanks for making a post about relating Bajaj with the vintage heroes of Ekta. I wanted to make a similar post here but i think you have explained it better. The vintage Ekta heroes are irreplaceable and you realize it once you see the mediocre male leads of current balaji shows like the Bhagya shows or Naagin series. I was never a fan of Bajaj because he was evil and just loving Prerna does not make up for all the vile and horrible things he did to Anurag and Prerna and their little kid Prem (which was tragic and I hope it does not get repeated this season). Also I feel, it is now impossible to recreated a Sujal or Angad in ITV, even Ekta has lost her golden touch when it comes to creating such outstanding and mass popular male leads who can outshine the idea of a "Female centric show'' .. The only thing I fear is, she might end up rebooting Kahin Toh Hoga or KYPH as Kasauti 2 is alreading fetching good TRPs...
