Discussion of the Week:

Hello everyone! This is KZK2 forum's first DOTW. A new discussion will be posted every week. Please participate and share your views. Healthy debating is allowed and even encouraged, but please be respectful. So without further ado, let's get started!

This week's discussion is:

If you are in Prerna's shoes...

Suppose that you are from a middle-class family and your parents took out a big loan. One day, the financer demands that the loan is paid back in full by the next day otherwise they will seize your house. Suppose that this is also legally possible, so there are no loopholes with the law.

You receive a proposal, similar to that of Prerna's, where you are asked to marry a Naveen. If you agree, you will get your loan forgiven in full. He is double your age and has come out of two divorces. If you prefer, then it is a female named Naveena. Same conditions apply.

Remember, you have only one day to pay back the loan or you and your family will be on the streets.

Would you marry Naveen/Naveena for your house? Would you let the house go? What would you do?

@ TM thank you for the DOTW. And nice topic btw.
Regarding the question on if I was in Prerna shoes, then my answer will be no. I would not marry a man like Naveen for the sake paying a loan. First of all, sacrifice is one thing and stupidity is other. I know that my family would need me and this is the time to help my family out but there are other ways to do it. For once the family can give up the house and maybe move into flat or something according to the economical status they have. People take loans all the time but they don't marry off or get their daughters married off just to get away with it.
Marriage is not a joke and neither its a play date of a day or two. Its a sacred promise of spending a life together with a person you love. Marrying someone to save your house is not a clever move. You will never become happy with that person who is double your age and neither will your family be happy to see you unhappy. So theres no use of giving your happiness and dreams away for the sake of your family's happiness cause if they truly love you, they will not be happy while seeing you suffer.
And again it depends on the person too. Like here Naveen is a total creep. He doesn't want to marry Prerna because he loves her. He liked what he saw and he wanted that. Its like a child asking for a new toy he liked and that child doesn't know the value of the toy. Naveen doesn't love or even like Prerna, he lusts after her. And Prerna is well aware of that. Had been some other person who was considerate and was clean in heart then even if he was older he could have considered as a good suitor. But again no sane or kind hearted person would want to marry a girl half his age who is marrying him unwillingly.
Prerna's situation is not that dire. She and her family still have options. They can move out of the house for time being and they can work harder. Rather than marrying someone, she should try getting a job if she really wants to help her family. They can work harder and can pay their loan back slowly and then win back their house.
I don't know on what reasons did Prerna take the decision but for me, to save the roof over my head I would not sell away myself and get tied into something I would regret forever and so will my family.

It all depends upon what kind of environment I've been brought up and what is the maturity level one is in.. Now that I am mature enough, I can't even go back and think about how my decision would've been for Prerna's age.. 😕 And putting through so many people in trouble, in due course going through the trouble day in and out, knowinggg that I had the opportunity to not put them through it.. Maybe guilt will kill me in and out..
Who knows if the guy that I married would've been the hero if my life story is written with him.. 😆

Ms.ChanandlerBong has already said everything and I agree with her.

My answer would be a NO as well! In today's time no girl marries someone in order to pay some debt. Especially not a creep like Naveen!

If they need to vacate their house then the practical thing to do would be to find an apartment to rent. The women of the house can all get a job instead of just sitting at home. Everyone can contribute to the household expenses. Or take a loan from the bank and pay the Basu family. And then they can keep making monthly payments to the bank and in a few years the loan would be paid off!

And honestly I don't understand one thing. If Prerna's dad has such an important position in Basu family's business then why is he in this situation in the first place? Does he not get paid enough? And how can they be so middle class if they live in such a big house? Everyone seems to have their own rooms and stuff. Middle class families from what I know share rooms.

Great posts guys, keep them coming!

@Basilisk about the first question, I wondered too. I would have expected Moloy to give him a decent salary. Maybe he does get a good salary, but just not a great one as usually employees in even huge corporations don't get paid well. Plus with that many family members, his expenses are probably crazy high. 😆

About the home situation, it's probably a home passed down from ancestors. I believe Rajesh said that his parents passed the house on, so it's been there for generations. I doubt they bought this house.

Even back home for me, my family owns a hugeee house with many floors and many rooms, but that's because it's on a land that has been passed down through many generations. It isn't because they're rich or anything like that.

Exactly.. 😆

And many stories are formed around this as well.. And then we know that they're made for each other.. Bad guy or bad girl transforming to good one.. 😉

I doubt they bought this house. Oh Ok! But even then. It's just a house right...Houses can be bought again. So why sell one's life to the devil just to save something made out of concrete? I mean I understand that there must be memories attached to the house but you can make new memories anywhere.

It isn't because they're rich or anything like that. Oh that makes sense! And I guess I was also thinking about living situations in big cities like Bombay...houses in Kolkata are probably not as expensive as houses in Bombay so people in Kolkata can probably get a bigger house for the same price.

@ bold, a love story with a man double your age? 🥱 he would be dead by the time you realise your love for each other and start your story. 🤔
Lets minus the age factor then maybe yes, that can be considered. With time people do change, even in reality but chances are really low. But it usually happens only in shows and movies where the hero will 100 percent change. In real life you may just end up in a bad marriage. Unless your life turns out to be some drama plot. If this was Gul Khan's show, Naveen would be half his age and would be the hero. He would be the one to get the girl in the endgame. 😆

Exactly my point! Saving your house by selling yourself is pure stupidity. If the question had arose of saving someone's life then it would have made some sense. This does not. 🥱
