Aziz Mirza's comeback vehicle produced by Tips has finally taken off. After Chalte Chalte with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji in 2003, the filmmaker had kept himself away from the arc lights. Mirza's new yet untitled film stars Vidya Balan and Shahid Kapur. The cast and crew are currently in Toronto, Canada for the film shoot.
It is learnt that besides Shahid, another B-Town actor had also been pencilled in for an important role. But as things did not work out, telly actor Amit Verma (Hotel Kingston, Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai) secured the role.
Amit, who left for Toronto on Tuesday, had been looking forward to this project. After the exit of Kituu, the actor almost disappeared from the small screen except for a stray outing in the horror show, Aahat. When asked about the film, Amit says, "I can't reveal anything at this juncture but it is a big break for me." It is heard that Aziz Mirza's son Haroon penciled in Amit for the film. "We lived in the same Mahim neighbourhood years ago. I guess he knew I was acting on television. I got a call out of the blue and after a screen test, I was on," says Amit.
Signature style
Sources reveal that Amit has a meaty role in the film and not exactly those blink-and-miss roles. Says the source, "Though Shahid and Vidya are the lead pair, there is a parallel track between Vidya and Amit as well."
The subject of the film is being kept under wraps but it is learnt that it is quintessentially a Mirza film like Chalte Chalte, Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani and Yes Boss. His new venture has been described as a lighthearted musical.
Incidentally, Amit has done a film earlier, Romila Mukherjee's Detective Nani that has yet to hit the marquee.
