They did not purposly decided to change Prem, it was the old Prem's (Manoj) decsion yo leave. He did not want to play the role of a 40 year old man so he quit.

I am really glad that if the old prem went, he took devki with him. I couldnt bear watching her with the new prem or the old prem with palchin. Its good they went together.
