Morning:
Getting out of bed early had always been a humungous task for him but he knew sooner or later he would have to get up anyway......having almost ten people in the house didn't make it a peaceful place......besides, "mother india" would definitely march up to his room and order him to come downstairs anyway......so knowing he was already in enough trouble, he got up and dressed......
as he came downstairs and walked towards the breakfast table, he stopped short... everyone was at the table including..........mukti........
he glanced around frantically, desperately looking for some excuse, but couldn't concoct one there and then......
he could clearly see the anger shoot up to her eyes as she gave him a quick glance.......prerna beckoned him to join in.........
to his utter bewilderment, the only unoccupied chair was the one right next to mukti............compelled by the other's eyes on him now, he was obliged to walk up to that forbidden chair and sat down......
he was close....too intolerably close......and he knew she knew it as much as he did..........he began eating and as his elbow clashed into hers, he could sense her hesitation and reluctance.......in a second, she was up, standing, and walked away from the table...........upon being asked by prerna, her only reply was that she wasn't hungry and needed to get to work early.....
he was the only one who sensed her lie.....she had left because he was there.......she had left because she couldn't stand him near her.......she had left because she could not bear to feel him touching her......as this realization dawned upon him, he felt the sudden pangs of hunger he had felt a while ago disappear......his hunger vanished only to be replaced by a sudden swarm of hurt and emptiness........withour saying a single word, he got up from the table and left.......
the others stared at his retreating back, apparently worried by his sudden behavior........Bajaj stopped Prerna from going after him, saying, "Let him go....wo hum se jitna dor rahe utna acha hai"
Office:
he was pacing up and down his elegant room, frowning and thinking about what had happened in the morning......he hated himself for not being able to concentrate on work and other matters......it just seemed as though nothing mattered anymore........nothing except for what she was doing.....to herself and to him.......
he tried to reason with himself.....he knew he was to blame for everything that had happened but mukti.....would she EVER understand the guilt that was surging up inside him now?.......he had repented for everything that he had done, confessed for supporting the wrong person, yet, it seemed as though she still hadn't forgotten anything!.......making her understand would be the hardest thing he could ever be asked to do........ he had repented for his wrongdoing, atleast inwardly, but why was she doing this to him? what she had done during breakfast had almost been too cruel and unbearable to him.......did she hate him to the extent that she couldn't stand him being that close to her? everyone else was there and yet, she had openly and resolutely walked away........
he sighed and sat down on his chair.......closing his eyes, he drifted off for a couple of minutes.........all he saw when he opened them after a while was her standing infront of him, holding a file.......
had she been waiting and looking at him this whole time?
he shook his head and said as gruffly as he could, "sorry, mere sar main dard ho raha tha......what do you want?"
"i want you to check this file before we do the presentation for the new contract"
"leave it on that table" he replied with a seemingly unconcerned attitude......
as he was watching her leave, he couldn't take it anymore, and made his way towards her.......he shut the door that she had partly opened to leave, and cornered her there and then......leaving one hand on the door, he turned her with his other one to face him......as their eyes locked, he could sense the discomfort surrounding them......
"why are you doing this mukti? kyoon? jab main ne sab ke saamne confess kar liya hai to tum yeh kyon kar rahi ho?"
she didn't respond. she was looking into his eyes, silently.....searchingly....
he tightened his hold of her arm and spoke out earnestly " i need an answer! mujhe jawaab do!"
she finally answered, " main jaanti hoon tum yeh kyon pooch rahe ho....i was right about you UD, you haven't changed one a tiny bit......aaj subah jo kuch bhi howa us ne tumhe parishaan kar diya hai......kyon? kyunkee tum jaante ho ke tum sab ki nazron main sirf us waqt achee nazar aoo gai jab MAIN tumhain maaf karon gi! you want me to show everyone that i've forgiven you??? tum abhi bhi kitne ghattya insaan ho......tum chahte ho kai main tumhe maaf kar doon taake TUM khud us ghar main reh sako, right? but listen carefully UD, your pain can never be equal to mine aur jo tum ne kiya usee main zindagi bhar nahin bhool sakti!"
he could do nothing except stare at her, while her words baffled his senses......she loosened his hold of her and left without saying anything further.......her words only increased his pain......her last words had been true to the core......afterall, in return for her friendship, he had given her nothing except blatent betrayal and abandonment.......in return for her love, he had given her a life filled with grief and remorse.......little by little, he realized how trully and justly he deserved what he was getting from her......
