well in the uk there is not so much class discrimination...there is the "have-have not" war with designers and "bling" etc, but it doesn't really extend to the point where people are ridiculed and ostracised. having being born and brought up here, I can tell you i (and many other people in my case) was shocked when i found out about this "untouchable" thing going on in india...how can a person be untouchable because of who they were born to? its absolutely ridiculous and preposterous to try and stop people from intermingling. are you seriously telling me that by touching an "untouchable" i will get some kind of "cooties" or germs? its the craziest thing i ever heard.

in the uk? nope thats completely wrong. here it works like this:

you have state schools, which are government funded and free to EVERYONE; you have private schools which are expensive but anyone who has the money can attend, girls or boys, doesn't matter....and then you have universities which all charge around the same annual fee, and it is the same for everyone. of course, schools like Eton and Harrow are extremely expensive and prestigious, and sometimes you need a "connection" to attend these schools.

there is no restriction on girls or boys, in terms of education, all are equal.

what i don't understand is, why would someone be outcasted if they touched an untouchable? whats the big deal?
