every one had questions why jai was suddenly jealouse. i can not call it jealousy.. he is after all married to her though he had left her the thought that she is his wife is burreid with in him. i felt that was a normal way of feeling when i wrote about his feelings... 😕

Chapter 4

He sat on the couch taking a puff from the cigarette. He couldn't understand his behavior with his friend. What did get into him when Raj spoke about Bani? He was not jealous but he did not want Raj to continue the subject about Bani.

Why did it bother him?
He had neglected his bride the day they got married and flew to London not looking back. Whether she lived or died did not matter to him. Then why was he disturbed about Raj's declaration?
He got up and took long strides in the room.
Was he getting attracted to Bani? Did Bani raise in him certain curiosity not coming before him?

He had feared a meeting with her. He was relieved and curious about her not appearing before him. What he had decided was to put an end to the non existent relationship when he decided to come to India.
Though he did not have any idea how he was going to do that.

He did not know what to do about it either. What he had learned about her was she was an independent woman. He was so occupied with his thoughts he had not looked at the child his brother had left behind. He did not want to create any attachment before he left for London. No heart aches. He had decided when he saw the little girl standing and staring behind his dad. He stopped pacing and sat down on the couch. He needs to do something about the mess he and Bani are in and that should be soon. He got up instantly from the couch and walked to the door determined to talk to her.

The phone bell kept on ringing. Bani finally got up from the bed settling Shradha on the bed. She covered her in quilt and walked out to the hall. On her way she wondered why no one was picking up the call. She never bothered with the phone or picked it up. Tony was always there to get the phone. The phone bell stopped as she reached near the stand. She turned to go it rang again. Bani picked up the receiver and said, "hello..'

'Hello ...' she heard a Female voice from the other end.
'Yes..'
'Can I speak to Jai…' asked the voice from the other end.
'Yes .. hold on…'
''Excuse me… hello.. who is on the line..' asked the other end.
Bani pretended she did not hear her. She placed the receiver on the side and turned to look for Tony. To her surprised she saw Jai walk towards her.

She hesitated for a moment and then said, 'you have a call..' she waved at the phone and walked past him.
Jai took the call looking at her go. 'Hello..' he said

'JAIIIIIIIIIII..' screamed the other end.
'Roshni…. What's up.. He asked casually.
'Where are you man? No news.. and your friend Raj too is missing.. what are you guys up to?'

Raj is in India.. he was here last day you tell me Roshni what's up? How's the office work going on?'

'Office is doing fine Jai.. I miss you.. when are you coming?'

Jai stood thoughtfully for a moment he can not leave his dad now. He will have to stay for two more weeks..
'Jai… you there?..'
'Yes .. I'll be here for two more weeks…'
'Oh no.. Jai..' chided Roshni from the other end. 'Jai thum wahan shadhi tho nahin ki heina…' She asked playfully.
Though she had said it playfully Jai could catch the edge in her voice.
'I'll call you later Roshni…'
'Hey.. wait.. Jai.. who was that female who took the call?'
'I'll talk to you later… good night.' Jai disconnected the call.

Jai liked Roshni. Roshni was a good friend. He did not attempt any serious relationship with woman. Fearing he had to tell them about his forced marriage to an unknown girl. He did not want to be laughing stock among friends. Raj was the only person who knew about his forced marriage. Jai pushed away his train of thoughts and walked towards Bani's room.

He stood before the room for a moment and knocked.

Who could that be Bani thought? Though it was none of her business she couldn't help thinking about the female caller. He had left her the day they got married. He had disappeared for three years with out any news. He could have a family there. She thought. Could that be his wife? Or his girl friend? Bani couldn't get the thought out her mind. A knock on the door got her out of her never ending thoughts. She walked towards the door and opened.


She was surprised and shock to find him at the door.

Jai couldn't open his mouth. He did not know what to tell or her why was he in there in the first place. He should have rehearsed the speech.



Why is he hear thought Bani? Why is he not saying anything? What did he come to tell her? Should she take the initiative to speak to him.

Finally they spoke together. Not understanding each other.
The silence fell again and Bani carefully asked, 'Yes?'

'I ... I …we need to talk…' he said.

She shook her head in affirmative. 'Shradha is sleeping.. I do not want to wake her..'

'Hmm.. if you could step in to the verandah..' .

She closed the door of the room and walked towards the verandah.

He opened the door and she stepped out. The cool night breeze swept them.

They stood out side the verandah and the silence fell again between them.

Jai kicked him for not able to speak to her.

'You wanted to speak to me.' she said wanting to get this conversation over with.

'Yes,' he said taking a long breath. 'I am sorry for the things that have happened…

'You need not have to be…you were as much as a victim as I was..'

Jai was amazed at her answer. He stared at her in the moon light.

'We are married for the name sake.. Before you leave you can annul the marriage.' She said firmly.

For some strange reason he did not like what he heard. He had walked down the stairs to her room to tell her exactly this. Then why was he feeling bothered?

Dad?''' he blurted suddenly.
'He will understand… three years he had yearned for you.. He will not compel you to stay married…' Bani did not want to continue. She walked in to the house leaving him .

Now what? Thought Bani … what right does she have to stay in this house? How will she leave with or with out Shradha… but how can she force a man to stay married to her..
A part of her felt relieved and the other half of her felt betrayed.

Jai was up from his sleep as his cell buzzed.
He picked up the call groggily.
'Jai… wake up man…'
'Raj..' Jai sat up on the bed.
'Jai I am on my way to the air port I want to talk to you before I leave…'
'About what?' Jai asked tiredly.
'About Bani..'
Grogginess left Jai immediately hearing Bani's name.
'What about her.. he almost snapped.
'I am on my way ….five minutes..'
Before Jai could yell he hung up the phone.

Jai shoved his quilt and walked hurriedly to the bath room.


Tony opened the door for Raj. Raj's eyes roved behind him.
'Come on in sir….' Tony invited him.

Raj walked in screening the hall. He saw Jai comedown the stairs.
Raj's attention was diverted suddenly to the girl who ran as fast her feet could take her and behind her Bani. Raj looked at her and his eyes sparkled.

Jai swore under his breath.
Bani stopped running behind Shradha as her gaze fell on the guest.
Raj caught Shradha's hand in an instant and stopped her from running.

A moment later Bani spoke, Shradha .. Come here.. Tony get her hear..'
Before she left she gave Raj a smile that melted his heart. Raj left Shradha's hand and looked at Jai with stars in his eyes.
Tony lifted her up in his arms and followed Bani.


'Raj….' Called Jai from the stairs.
Raj looked at the way she left.
'Raj..' Jai called him impatiently.
'Yes buddy..' Raj looked at his friend. Ignoring Jai's stare he said. 'I need to talk to you..'

Jai took him to his study and closed the door.
'Tell me what's Important? Jai asked looking at him.

Raj took few minutes to answer. ' Subject is Bani Jai.. I just can't get her out of my mind…'

Jai's eyebrows rose.

'I wouldn't dare talk to you like this Jai if she was really your wife.. I mean real in every sense.. But I do know you both were trapped in an unwanted situation. Tell me if you have any problem me pursuing her?'

Jai's frown did not leave his face.

Raj stared at his friend. When Jai did not speak he said, 'am I detecting a rejection from your side?

Jai looked away.
'What's in your mind Jai? Do you have second thoughts?'


A tremor ran through Jai. Does he? What? But why?
He shook his head in denial.

'Good then.. I can go without guilt.. I won't enter in your territory Jai. If you have nothing for her I want to try my luck and let me tell you this is for keeps.

Jai felt heaviness in his heart what was wrong with him? Why was he feeling sudden anger and helplessness towards his friend. He did not want to ponder on the subject he did not want Raj for her.. period .he thought. Let anyone marry her not Raj. He thought stubbornly. He did not want to rationalize his thoughts. Not Raj and Not Bani …NO..

'What?' Raj asked him.
Jai did not have any answer.
'You Mr. Jai Walia are behaving like a typical Indian husband. You do not want to live with her nor want to see her happily settled with anyone else..' Raj accused.

'Do not complicate things Raj which is already complicated. Give some time and thought…' he spoke finally.

'How much time?' Raj asked.
'Please..' jai said looking at his friend.

'Alright, I'll give you some time….' He said thoughtfully..' I won't rush. But buddy keep her safe for me…' Raj winked and walked out of the study. He stopped at the door and turned his head.. ' Jai.. can you do me a favour…'

Jai looked at him questioningly.
'Introduce us properly..' he said twinkle in his eyes.
'Raj you have half an hour to reach the airport. The flight is on time….' Jai tried to hide his irritation.
'Alright.. I need to meet her and that meeting should be proper.. see you in London..'
Jai nodded. Raj left with a whistle and Jai heaved a sigh of relief.

Uday Walia waited for His son in his study impatiently. He would speak to Jai today. He doesn't want to live with uncertainty. He did not want to get up every morning thinking when Jai would walk in to his room and say "Dad I am leaving"


Jai opened the door and went in. his father was seated behind the desk.
'Come in here son… and take your seat…'
Jai took his seat and looked at him.
'Tell me Jai .. What's your plan?'
Jai did not expect a direct question from him. He wanted to go back but how would he say to his father.

'Tell me Jai.. I am getting older by the day.. I want my family to live with me.. What have you decided?'

Jai studied his father's anxious face. He had to tell him. Better get it over with than dillydallying. 'Dad.. I need to go back..'
Uday Walia's face lost it's color.
'Dad I am sorry.. I can't stay back..'
'What about Bani?' It took all his might to ask that question.
Jai looked away from his father's stare.
'Son.. what about Bani?' He repeated.
'We.. er.. will annul the marriage…' Jai's throat tightened.

Uday Walia tried his beast to conceal the tears that threatened to fall. He had been a fool to think and dream of having a happy family.. it would be better to let it go.. he told himself. At that thought he felt heaviness in his heart his vision blurred. His eye lids closed and he fell back on the chair…………

Jai is an ass, why is he hell bent down to go back where's nothing but work and work [8(] [8(] [8(] are they getting attracted or not, but I think this Raj is trying to make Jai realise what Bani means really to him by pretending to be awed by her [;)] [:P] [LOL]

Glad that Raj, knowingly or unknowingly is giving a little push to Jai, forcing him to analyse his feelings and make a decision. Poor Uday... 😭

👏 👏 👏 great update.....Jai is a confused soul, he doesn't know what he wants actually.....and Raj is annoying Jai and me 😆 but he is quite right, Jai is a typical indian husband.....I'm sure the two weeks will change Jai's life and Raj will be disappointed 😆

Great update kamy. it seems, Jai wants to let go and then again he doesn't. He is jealous of his friend's eyes on Bani. Is he really going to walk away? will he really set her free for Raj?
