Till love do us apart

http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=198605

TV's leading ladies seem to marry for all reasons except the best, says our correspondent
Rachana Nakra
For the women in today's soaps, preserving the Bharatiya sanskriti is very important. So much so, that they live in joint families, only wear sarees—even to bed—and consider marriage a sacred institution. In fact, marriage figures so high on their priority list that they can never do with just one. And their reasons for getting married? They are just as myriad as their husbands.

Getting married to the man they love is never a choice. Otherwise, the soap would have to end after 50 episodes. So the first marriage is invariably a compromise or a sacrifice, made for either of the following reasons—the family's happiness, to uphold their image in society, save the family or lover from financial troubles; or it could be a devious plan by the ubiquitous vamp. The leading lady is left with nothing but an older man for a husband whose first name also she doesn't know. Mr Bajaj, Mr Walia, Mr Mehra, Mr Ahluwalia, anyone?

Pati-vrata Parvati from Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki is the latest to join this bandwagon. After more than 30 years of her onscreen marriage to the same person, she has finally decided to take the plunge again. The marriage of convenience is to inconvenience Mr Mehra, who she believes has killed her first husband. Since the long arm of the law never makes an appearance in these soaps, Parvati decides to take things in her own arms.. er.. hands.

Kashish from Kahin To Hoga gets married to Sujal because she thinks that he is her first husband's killer. A car crash, a plastic surgery and a broken marriage later, Kashish has now tied the knot with Mr Ahluwalia because she thinks he may have killed her sister. Perhaps the police academy should start a new training course in 'how to solve a murder with marriage.' Everyone's new favourite, Kasamh Se, has Bani taking saat phere with Mr Walia to uphold the family dignity because the original bride runs away with her lover on the wedding day. In Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Anurag's mother had schemed her way into getting him married to Komolika. His first love, Prerna, was left to mope and give birth to their love child. Of course, the leading lady couldn't be left without a man for long, so enter business tycoon Rishabh Bajaj who agrees to help Anurag in his financial troubles only if he can have Prerna. So while Prerna married the rich guy, Anurag was left to despair.

These are the marital sagas of just some of the leading ladies. If we get started on the marriages of the Pallavis, Komolikas and other vamps on the telly, it'll have to be made into a book.

Here are a bunch of old articles, if they are repeats let me know, I'll delete it, and if we aren't left with anything by the end of the game, I replace it something innovative...This way I get to know what is posted without reading through every article...

KAL - YESTERDAY & TOMORROW boasts of a number of talented names, but the ones that stand out are Chitrangda, Ram Kapoor and Sarika. Chitrangda is a complete natural. Her outburst when provoked by the television channels is simply amazing. Ram Kapoor is an actor to watch! He handles his part with complete understanding and delivers a knockout performance. It's indeed a pleasure to watch Sarika after a hiatus. She is excellent!

Scream of the lambs http://www.telegraphindia.com/1041209/asp/calcutta/story_410 6834.asp

What do you get when you bring together an advertising guru, an actress known more for cricket, a young director, and a snazzy, upmarket channel just born? You get Bali.

December 10 will showcase Prahlad Kakkar?s first foray into cinema with this 75-minute film to be aired on STAR One. Produced by Kakkar?s ad agency Genesis, the film has been directed by newcomer Shujaat Saudagar (also Kakkar?s co-worker at Genesis) and stars Mandira Bedi (in a still from the film above) with Ram Kapoor (a TV actor who had a bit role in Monsoon Wedding).

The film is based on Roald Dahl?s short story Lamb to the slaughter (thus Bali ? sacrifice). ?But while adapting it for television I had to make several changes,? says Shujaat. ?The original story is about one evening, but my film stretches for a week.?

Prithvi, a senior police officer, is caught between his pregnant wife Anchal (Mandira) who he doesn?t love anymore and Tanya, an attractive woman who has just come into his life. To add to his list of worries, Bali, a serial killer Prithvi had shot, is on the run. The film follows the parallel tracks till Prithvi?s body is found by his wife in their house. Then the hunt for the killer begins.

?It?s the first long-length film Genesis has done,? offers Shujaat. ?And we did it to prove a point. The budget wasn?t big, it was shot entirely in Mumbai and Mandira and Ram worked for free.? But why debut with a ?dark? film? ?I always wanted to do a macabre film with lots of blood and gore, and this provided the opportunity,? explains the 31-year-old.

The screenplay took three months to write (?a looooong time?) and production had to be just perfect. ?We shot the film with a handheld camera and the screenplay structure is quite interesting, there?s a lot of back and forth in time.?

Mandira compares the editing style with Quentin Tarantino?s Pulp Fiction. ?The first few minutes, you are completely lost,? she says. ?Then, slowly, it all starts clearing up.?

Working with Mandira is not a first for Shujaat. He is the man behind the ?Mandira in the rain? promo for the Champions Trophy as well as the one for World Cup cricket, both on MAX. ?Mandira is a great director?s actress whose talent has been largely untapped,? is Shujaat?s verdict on cricket?s first lady on TV, who shot to fame with the soap Shanti.

Mandira is just as full of praise for the ?young, talented and very promising? director. ?Like the ad campaigns, he has taken this film to another level as well,? is Mandira?s stamp on Shujaat.

Bali premieres on December 10 at 11 pm on STAR One. The slot has already featured films from first-time directors, like Nitin Kaker?s Pehchaan and Veena Bakshi?s Na Na Karte.

Rakshanda Khan: I can die eating but I wont diet
Whether she is Mallika in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin or Tanya in Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi..., Rakshanda Khan has become hugely popular! She is now part of the ICC Champions Trophy, as part of the popular show Extraa Innings. The model-turned-actress is keeping a hectic schedule, which is why now seems the right time to ask her how she keeps herself looking so good! Make-up for me Is always basic: Kaajal, blush and lip gloss. If I feel adventurous, then I wear eye liner. My skincare fundas I try and drink lots of water. I try and sleep at least five to six hours every day. Always, always take off your makeup before going to bed. For me, it is a whole 10-minute routine to remove all my makeup. I put on a rejuvenating mask every night. Or an anti-acne mask. Since I am in a profession where I have makeup on like 14 to 15 hours a day, it is very important for me to protect my skin. My love affair with food I can die eating, but I won't diet! I love food too much for that. I inherited this huge weight problem from my mother. She is beautiful and a great cook and I inherited her weight problem as her gene gift! I can smell food and put on weight. And if it's not fattening, I don't like it. I eat cheesy pizzas. I am the only person I know who eats a whole bar of Toblerone first thing in the morning. I am a disaster. I am a convenient vegetarian. I love prawns and crab. I love Butter Garlic Crab from Trishna [a Mumbai restaurant famed for its sea food], Prawn Koliwada from Gajalee [a popular Mumbai seafood restaurant], Natural's ice creams, Smokin' Joe's pizzas and french fries from anywhere!

Rakshanda Khan: I totally adore jewellery
Rakshanda Khan My fashion statement I believe in being comfortable. I love denim. They are a boon since I have no energy to get up and iron clothes. I usually wear denim -- even to go out. If it is daytime, I wear slip-ons or sandals. If it's night, I wear boots. I like clothes by Hemant Trevedi and Sheetal Design Studio. Designers I cannot afford but have every intention of buying are Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Internationally, I love Miss 60, Zara and Mango. They have casual, sporty clothes which is the kind of stuff I like. My weakness I totally adore jewellery and watches. I love Calvin Klein, Guess watches. Eventually, I want to own a Cartier watch. And, of course, a four carat diamond ring to go with it!

I adore bags. Let me tell you about my bag collection. I have 60 bags. All of them are totally fabulous. All of them are in their wraps except for one. I just never get the chance to take them out.

The one I am using forever is this huge red Mango duffel bag. It is just amazingly comfortable.

'Kasamh Se' heads to Bangkok

Nuzhat Aziz

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 23:00 IST

The dramatic twists in the show between Jai Walia, Bani and Pia will be shot abroad.

The entire team of the show 'Kasamh Se' (Zee) is heading to Bangkok for an outdoor shoot. According to sources, the track will now focus on Jai (Ram Kapoor) falling in love with Pia (Roshni Chopra). Bani (Prachi Desai), on the other hand, will realise her love for Jai.

Confirming this, deputy creative head of Balaji, Nivedita Basu says, "We are getting into the second phase of the story. From the next episode, (that is from the 170 th episode till the 250 th one), the entire storyline will undergo a change."

However, Nivedita is not certain about Bangkok being the final destination. "I'm not sure whether the further drama that we have chalked out will suit with the outdoor locations of Bangkok. I have to wait for Ektaa's (Kapoor) approval on this. But we will definitely do the shoot on a foreign locale," she continues. So is it becoming a trend for tellywood to shoot certain sequences abroad? "This is not the first time that we will be shooting abroad. Outdoor locales definitely help the storyline. They break the monotony and add freshness to the track. And you don't have to pay extra for the shoot," adds the deputy creative head.

Prachi who will be travelling abroad for the first time is quite keyed up. She reveals, "This will be my first trip abroad and I am over the moon. I will do a lot of sightseeing and shopping," she laughs. She further adds, "I will be celebrating my birthday in Bangkok and I am super excited!"

Prankster Pawan gets into trouble

Kasamh Se director shouts at the actor for distracting others

Reena Thapar Kapoor

It has been only a week since actor Pawan Shankar joined the unit of Kasam Se. But this couldn't prevent him from being yelled at by the director, Anil Kumar. Pawan, who plays a lawyer in the serial, looking after the divorse case of Bani and Jai, was shooting for Kasamh Se, when the incident took place. An eye witness says: "Pawan was joking around and was distracting other actors." Apparently, it continued for more than two hours. The unit members got hyper, as they couldn't wrap up the episode, which was supposed to be uplinked for the same evening. The director yelled at Pawan, as his pranks delayed the completion of the episode on scheduled time. An embarrassed Pawan apologised to the unit. "I didn't realise when a trivial joke became into a serious prank and we were all having a good laugh over it. That day we were shooting a scene that required almost all the characters in the show. I didn't realise that the repercussion would be that bad!" says Pawan.

The actor says that he is very friendly with Ram Kapoor and the rest of the cast. "As friends, we do pull a fast one on each other but I had no idea that my work would get affected." Pawan says that he is a complete professional. "Yes, I did goof up but it's not like that always." Anil Kumar was unavailable for his comments.

Ba ko kaise maroon?' is Ekta Kapoor's simple explanation

Subhash K Jha

If the generation leap in Ekta Kapoor's Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi had gone according to plan, 'Ba' aka Sudha Shivpuri would have been out of the soap.

Explains Ekta, "That's right. Initially we decided to bump Ba off after 35 episodes of the generation-leap. But viewers just won't have any of it! Ba ko kaise maroon? People love Ba. They feel she's much too important to the Virani people to leave the soap. Since Ba and Tulsi are seen as the anchors of Kyunki…. Ba will just have to live."

Interestingly, Ba is supposed to be 105 years old on the soap. Says Ekta, "It doesn't matter how old she is. Viewers want her to live, and we've to go by their wishes."

Manoj Kumar cries again...

Ram Kapoor is overjoyed on receiving a call from veteran actor Manoj Kumar complimenting him for his performance in a scene in Kasamh Se

Sapana Patil Poojary

Ram Kapoor aka Jay Walia of Kasamh Se is on cloud nine. He received a call from veteran actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar congratulating him about his performance in one of the recent episodes of the serial.

So what was Ram's reaction when Manojji called? "I really can't express how happy I am. Getting a call from someone of Manojji's stature is an honour. I am still in a daze. This is perhaps the best compliment I have ever received. Monojji said that he had been watching the serial since a long time and had wanted to call me up. And when he saw this scene (of Jay touching his wife's stomach and speaking to the unborn child), he couldn't restrain himself and called up the writer of the serial to get my number. I was speechless."

Ram was even more touched when Manoj Kumar explained to him from a filmmakers's point of view. "Manojji discussed the graph of the scene and added that he never thought that anyone on the small-screen could make him cry. And then he invited me to his place for a cup of tea," Ram adds.

Manoj Kumar, when contacted, says, "It was a very dramatic and high voltage scene. But the way Ram presented it with a restrained subtlety, sans opening his eyes and tears rolling down, it looked as if he was talking straight from his heart. I was clean bowled. After years, I have liked something on television."

Ask him if he is a regular television watcher and he says, "I personally like to watch talk-shows and news. But I like Kasamh Se and otherwise whatever my wife watches."

Ashwini Kalsekar

Good to be bad

A gay fan shocked Ashwini Kalsekar by asking her to throw co-star Bani out of Jay Walia's life!

Kunal M Shah

People love to hate her. Ashiwni Kalsekar aka Jigyasa in Ekta Kapoor's Kasamh Se plays the bad sister-in-law of Bani in the serial. She says, "Playing a negative character has its own charm. I am the bad woman in television just like Gulshan Grover is in films. But I also come across women who tell me that they like me and that my actions in the serial are justified. They might have a point there as Jigyasa is also a loving mother and a loving sister. She feels insecure when three women intrude their peaceful lives. I remember meeting a gay man on my recent trip to London who was adamant that I throw Bani out of Jay Walia's life as he was in love with Jay Walia."

"When the character was offered to me, I was nervous as Ekta had told me that her vamps become the most-discussed characters. I was apprehensive. I'm so happy that I have done justice to my character. It feels good when people react strongly to your character even if it is with hate. Even my own mother who loves Bani tells me that what I am doing to her is not right," Ashwini smiles. With the immense popularity it has earmed her, does she consider Jigyasa her biggest break? "No. Shanti was definitely my biggest break but I do agree that Kasam Se gave me the maximum recognition," says Ashwini, who is desperately hunting for a flat these days. She says, "I'm desperately looking for a nice cozy two-bedroom flat. Although the property rates have shot up so much, I won't give up."

It is believed that once an actor works with Balaji house, they do not go work with other banners. Kalsekar concurs, "You do not need to. To be very frank, I had never thought of buying my own house. In these last two years of working with Balaji, I have managed to do that. Ekta was confident that I could play Jigyasa even though my character of Misha was amongst the popular ones in K Street." Besides, Ashwini will soon be seen playing a film journalist in Pawan Kaul's film Bhram and Shriram Raghvan's Johny Gaddar

we all luv ram and r his serious fans(i am very much<3😳). i found this article on ramji's beliefs. its pretty interesting seeing how we luv getting to noe our actors ^^

"I don't believe in God!"

There are times in all our lives, when we desire the need for divine intervention; times, when life refuses to acknowledge the seemingly obvious and decides to take refuge in a world that is far away from ours. A world that gives the body and mind the spiritual healing that it yearns for. We, at Telly Chakkar.com decided to delve deeper into the lives of our favourite stars and know a little about their lives beyond the obvious.

He's back to television after a long hiatus but Ram Kapoor hasn't lost any of his characteristic charisma that made him a performer par excellence! The actor, who admittedly (and obviously so!) had no control over the way he was named doesn't believe in God. This detail in itself makes this self confessed non-believer an intriguing interviewee. Riya V Ananadwala takes a trip with Ram to find out more.

Ram Kapoor

No belief in God
I don't really believe in God. I don't do pujas or anything of that sort. I have never asked for anything.

Name irony
My name is Ram no doubt, but I don't believe in God. I was named by my grandparents who are very religious.

I am anti religion
More than God, I am anti-religion. I feel this all starts from there. There are so many problems related to religion. We have seen so much in the past and it continues even today.

Fading humanity
There is so much of inhumanity. Every now and then we get to hear so many incidents that it has put me completely off religion. From deaths, to accidents to so many evils, I just don't feel like believing in it.

Is this serial dragging? Kasamh se, yes!
N ANANDHI (Contributor)

16 August 2006 The serial Kasamh Se on Zee TV has been dragging a bit too long now. More than the serial it is the impending coming together again of Jay Walia (Ram Kapoor) and his wife Bani (Prachi Desai). Bani has found out that Jay Walia has been responsible for her mother's death.

"I come to know of it and hence don't want to get back with him. And so I have filed for divorce from him. My sister Rano (Arunima Sharma) is trying hard to get us together and that's how we have been meeting once in a while albeit accidentally. But I am very angry with him at the moment and want half his estate as well as alimony," says Desai about her role in the serial as of now.

Desai opines that though the current divorce proceedings has thrown in a spanner in the coming together of Bani and Jay, there is a 50-50 per cent chance that the twain may meet again. "I am pregnant now and my sister is still trying to get us together. I agree that the serial is dragging at the moment, but the audience anxiety clearly reveals the increased interest in the serial and hence we are pulling it long enough. I can't exactly reveal what is going to happen next," she avers.

The story so far

Kasamh Se is a serial about three sisters Pia (Roshni Chopra), Rano (Arunima Sharma) and Bani (Prachi Desai) who come to live at the house of Jay Walia (Ram Kapoor) after their father's death. Jay Walia falls in love with Pia who is in love with Pushkar (Naman) and she elopes with him on the day of the marriage and Bani is forced to marry Jay to save family pride.

Walia now wants to destroy the sisters — but falls in love with Bani who comes to know that Jay has been responsible for the death of her mother.

Zee TV Sr. 'Kasam Se' - Divorce of Walia and Bani, will it succeed?
MIL/Review, Aug 17, 2006. Shashi Kala

It is up to the director how it could be twisted. But so far public is
concerned, the majority feels that the file of the medical check up papers
that Bani filled before the lady doctor for medical check up contains the
name of Pushkar as her husband and not Walia. This point may create
some unpleasantness and twist and may not enable her to achieve her
object of divorce so easily.

The viewers are not happy to see the change in Bani's character, which is
now shown so rude, impolite and indecorous, rather insulting, she did not
even pay respect of Mausi, when she visited her residing place. How
painful, she sacrificed all her noble qualities and ignored to pay proper
respect to Mausi?

Bani in her conversation to Mausi hinted that if Mr. Walia's wealth is lost
completely by some reason or the other, then what would happen to her
child's future?

This does not show that she wants to protect Mr. Walia's wealth and
properties. By unfolding her mind about the child so bluntly and
insultingly in open, the entire credit of Bani's noble credit is lost.

Her hatred attitude towards Walia has destroyed the graciousness and
decency of her character, which the audience always admired till the last
scene when she embraced Mr. Walia while standing on fake time bomb
and both of them were blown, though unhurt.

No doubt, Bani may be doing all this to protect the interest of her child's
future but the way it is being handled by the script and the director has
simply frustrated the audience. The director should see that the story
does not injure the feelings of the audience.

When a character is built on the screen, whether it is TV serial or feature
picture, the thoughts of audience flow with them, either they earn
sympathy and admiration for the character or hatred. If the noble
character is assassinated in artist's behavior, which is unexpected to the
audience in this case, they feel shocked, and that does not speak of the
good story. In other words, the grip on a good story seems to have been
lost, unless a new twist is given.
