This is an excerpt from an article published in the Hindustan Times (Supplementary Section, Delhi Edition) which talked about the Current Crop of Men ruling the roost on Indian Television! The others who were mentioned were Iqbal Khan, Rajeev Khandelwal, Sachin Sharma and a few more!

"Ram Kapoor, the good-looking and talented actor whom the viewers remember from Ghar Ek Mandir and Dhadkan, is weaving magic as he plays the arrogant and temperamental patriarch of a rich business family who is caught between the threshold of love and hatred for his beautiful but unwanted wife. Kapoor is catching the fancy of not only the women who serenade him on-screen but also of his female fan's who can't seem to get enough of him be it his salt and pepper hairstyle or his expressive eyes which seem to speak a hundred things in one go. The actor infuses freshness and raw energy into what could have been a stereotypical role and hereby gives a different twist to the intense and bitter-sweet romance between an older man and a younger woman, played with restrained grace by debutant Prachi Desai."

The same newspaper also mentioned the Love-making Scene which was picturized on Ram and Prachi;

"Television might not be getting better, but it is certainly getting bolder with serials like Viraasat on Star Plus and the popular daily soap, Kasamh Se aired on Zee TV, showcasing intimate bedroom scenes between the protogonists with aplomb. Case in point being the rather shocking Love-making scene aired a few days back on Kasamh Se which showed the culmination of love and lust between the estranged Husband-Wife duo, Jai and Bani, who give into their emotions and temptations after having being done fighting with one another since the serial debuted. The scene was shot in detail with close-ups of the actors kissing passionately and ending up in Bed, only to be shown waking upto the fresh glow of a torrid night spend together! But to their credit, the scene was done with a lot of aesthetics and sensitivity and the actors pulled off a potentially disastrous scene with remarkable maturity."

KS seems to be getting a lot of publicity these days, all thanks to Ramu Darling and the 19th June Scene......SBS was supposed to do a short feature on the same, dunno why they cancelled it!

Cheers,

MT

Bani, Saloni saath saath
Zee's prime-time girls, Saloni (Rajshree Thakur) of Saat Phere and Bani (Prachi Desai) of Kasamh Se will shake a leg together in the July 6 episode of Kasamh Se. There is a wedding in the Walia household and Bani specially invites Saloni to join in the festivities. This cross-promotional episode was shot over the weekend at a Saki Naka studio with Ekta Kapoor herself overseeing the shoot on the sets. Incidentally, Saloni is a trained classical dancer, so avid viewers of these shows can look forward to this double treat with both gyrating to the track Tu Mahro Kaun Lage from Batwara.

Sorry if this has been poste before.

Similar calling

There is this uncanny resemblance between Prachi Desai (Bani of Kasamh Se) and Neelam Roy (wife of Ronit Roy). The two aren't related — one's an actress, the other a homemaker. Separated at birth? Tell us what you think.

Ram Kapoor

Malaria delays Park Road suspense

Ram Kapoor falls ill and a much-awaited sequence in Kasamh Se has to be postponed

Reena Thapar Kapoor

The recent downpour alone is not responsible for the irregularities in the telecast of daily soaps. Last week actor Ram Kapoor who plays the lead role of Jai Walia in Kasamh Se fainted on the sets as he had been shooting non-stop for 48 hours. The actor had barely recovered and reported to work, when he fell sick again.

Apparently, Ram Kapoor is down with malaria. His poor health didn't allow him to shoot for the Park Road suspense sequence that the Kasamh Se unit had planned to reveal on the July 5. "Last week was chaotic for the Kasamh Se team," says a unit member.

The Kasamh Se unit works on zero bank episodes. The scenes they shoot in the morning are uplinked the same day for telecast. "Thankfully, we didn't miss any episode. The problem happened when Ram complained of uneasiness. He was rushed back home and was later taken to the doctor. He is diagnosed with malaria," says the assistant director of Kasamh Se.

How did the unit account for Ram's absence in the show and, more so, for the fact that the Park Road suspense had to be postponed? "It wasn't easy as we had put up the hoardings of Park Road all over town. Eventually, we had to show that Jai Walia is rushed to Pune for some unforeseen reason. Ram's condition was so bad that he couldn't even shoot for that one scene where he has a telephone conversation with his on-screen wife Bani, explaining his abrupt trip to Pune." The Park Road suspense has now been deferred to next week.

Meanwhile, Ram is recuperating. "He has been asked to rest," says his wife Gautmi Gadgill Kapoor. According to her, Ram will resume shooting early next week despite not recovering completely. Such are the consequences of working in a daily soap!

In praise of older men
Every week, one TV serial or the other skips a generation to grow younger. However, it's the older men who are scoring with audiences.
Shailaja Bajpai
There's the gentle lover boy in Jab Luv Hua, there's the sulky looking Aditya who is hoping Chandni will look at him again and forsake her fiance, and then there is a host of young men, across channels who look at though they just came out of a shower. For all their youth and exuberance, these young TV characters don't really stand a chance against the older men on TV who are more charismatic and well, dare we say it, better looking? Even as television drama does everything to get younger, it is ironical that the leading TV male stars of today are not these young bucks but TV veterans - albeit not all that old. Joining Mihir (Ronit Roy) is Ram Kapoor in Kasam Se, and Rohit Roy in Viraasat as well as Aman Verma and Amar Upadhyay (in the same serial). The lead male character in Zee's popular Saath Phere is Saloni's husband, hardly a teenager by the looks of him. Both Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, although over populated with younger generations, still depend on the old faithfuls like Cezanne Khan and Anoop Soni who plays Parvati's husband.
All of these male stars have been around for a long while - read at least 5-6 years. Yet, they are playing the lead romantic roles while their younger co-stars languish in nowhere land. In Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi, the male characters who were supposed to become the leading lights such as Gautam, Karan and Saahil have been embroiled in family warfare while it's left to Mihir to be involved in the love triangle. Similarly, in Kasam Se, it is Ram Kapoor's character who is at the heart of all the heartburn. What has happened here? Is it that we don't like younger men? Or do audiences prefer the older variety? Certainly the audience for prime time Hindi TV dramas seem sold on the latter. Housewives, who make up the majority of viewers for daily soaps, who have been loyally watching their K serials do not seem much impressed by the younger generation of men. Give them Mihir and Mr.Bajaj any day. The fact that a new serial such as Viraasat is also dependent on old TV hands like AmarUpadhyay and Aman Verma and the new thriller, Akela also features an old TV favorite, Sudhanshu Pandey, reinforces the perception that for all its youthful appearance, Indian TV serials are heavily dependent on the 'older' men to attract viewers.

Shining stars
Just yesterday they were typical Pune youngsters lounging about on Main Street or wolfing down bhel-puri. Today they are big names on the small screen. A tete-a-tete with what is becoming Pune's best export to Mumbai —promising youngsters in the glam business
Laxmi Birajdar
Girl woman
Playing the demure saree-clad wife Bani of a business tycoon in Sony Television's serial Kasamh Se has been a fulfilling experience for 17-year-old Prachi Desai. It was while attending a modeling workshop with Bunty and Prashant, that she took a shot at auditioning for Balaji Telefilms and there's been no looking back since. "I know being clad in a saree and jewellery seems conventional, but let's face it. This is what people want to see and can relate to at the end of the day. So, I'm happy doing what I'm doing," says Desai, who will be giving her Std XII board exam next April.

Being choosy
She turned down the role of the suave detective along side Sunny Deol in Rahul Rawail's Jo Bole So Nihaal. Not to forget a refusal to play a sexy mother of two in Karan Johar's Kal Ho Na Ho—a role that finally went to Anaita Adajania-Shroff. And, her plans to star along side Jimmy Shergill in Sunjiv Puri's Agnipankh also fell through. "I have no regrets for making the kind of decisions that I did. But, I'm very happy with whatever I'm doing now and will stick by it," says Tejaswini Walvekar who plays Madhu, an affable and charming mediator between Urvashi Dholakia and Gaurav Chandna in the newly-launched serial Rishto Ki Dor on Sony Television. What's more, she also plays the role of Chanana'a secretary.

She thanks her lucky star for the smooth sailing she experienced while bagging a role in the serial. But, films are not the current consideration for this former model and May Queen (1999). Marathi magic
Print ads gave her the much-needed impetus in Pune. And, it was while auditioning in Mumbai for a hair oil ad, that Priya Khopkar bagged a role as Shivaji Satam's daughter-in-law in the award-winning Marathi film Uttarayan (2005). Soonafter, actress and film-maker Smita Talwalkar found Khopkar suitable enough to play the lead role of Mukta in Oon Pauus—one of the most-widely watched evening soaps on Zee TV Marathi. And since then there has been no looking back. She will soon be acting in Kumar Sohoni's forthcoming comedy flick Lapun Chhapun. "But I'm not considering Hindi films or serials at the moment. I want to take one step at a time and grow with my acting experience," asserts Khopkar. Right moves
Modelling was a fortuitous experience for Mugdha Godse, who eventually took a shot at Gladrags Mega Model Hunt which she won in 2002. Soonafter, she found her groove in television commercials and music videos. Today, she has to her credit music videos like Daler Mehendi's Mauja Lende and DJ Aqeel's Jab Chhaye Tera Jaadu, among others, and is currently signing a Hindi film. "I can't reveal anything about it at the moment," is all she says.

Standing tall
Her character of Ambika Kapoor reads men's minds with great ease in Sahara One's serial Suno...Harr Dill Kuchh Kehtaa Hai. For Niyati Joshi, who plays Ambika, the serial has been a great experience especially after her performance in Miss India 2006, in which she was one of the finalists. "But I've had my share of struggle and I'm concentrating only on my serial at the moment. Films will happen provided I get my kind of roles," says Joshi.

THE MAGIC OF MANGALSUTRA: Geetika Sasan Bhandari

Call them the bhabhi-behenji serials as opposed to the saas-bahu tribe. years after Star unveiled the first bejewelled bahu on the small screen, a new traditional woman is competing for the viewers attention. She is sober, strong and married to a deamboat. She doesn't slap and hardly ever screams. She dresses well, with the mandatory mangal sutra, but not with everything out of the bank vault. And though she suffers in silence, she also shoots when she has to. ....... Showcaesd in two daily soaps- Saat Phere( Begun Oct) and Kasm Se begun January) - she is also turning around the fortunes of ZEE TV. Zee has cozily made its way into the No2. slot in the general entertainment category.
The stories are simple enough. .... Kasam Se is the story of 3 very different sisters ... who come to live with the dashing Jeh Walia ( whose gorgeous credentials are certified by the women in the ZEE TV office who immediately gather in programming division when the Kasam Se tapes arrive) .The plainest girl Bani marries him, ... wins his love. Kelkar explains the draw of the silent but strong woman, which sounds like a matrimonial ad. " She respects elders, can adjust in a family, can handle crises and yet opposes what she feels is wrong. Her biggest strength is that her husband loves her".
If there is evil, it is concentrated in the sistes-in-law, nasty pieces of work in both serials. The actors are all fresh and even those who are not, like Ram Kapoor ( Walia), have developed a fan following. Characters do not multiply senselessly as yet, and the plots, unlike STAR PLUS s reigning soaps, are fairly simple to follow.....
For the ZEE TV actors it has spelt instant celebrity hood..... For Desai , a 17 year old PUNE schoolgirl," everyone can relate to some character: eithe to me( Bani) or to Pia who is bolder or Rano who is reserved. The role I play is of an independent, confident, softspoken and simple, a typical middle-class girl."
What works in both is the romance, which in the finest tadition of Indian entertainment, happens post-marriage even for modern girls. Good looks don't matter, neither fair skin. Plain is Perfect.

Bani is Ekta's lucky charm

Mother hen:Ekta Kapoor

Kapoor says she has unofficially adopted the 17-year-old Kasamh Se actress Prachi Desai
Vickey Lalwani
vickey.lalwani@mid-day.com

On July 16, Ekta Kapoor paid her usual Saturday visit to Mukteshwar temple in Juhu. But this time she took Prachi Desai (Bani of Kasamh Se) along with her. According to a source, "Ekta made Prachi touch all the idols in the temple. The two of them then prayed together." The source further informs that Prachi has become Ekta's favourite. "Ekta considers Prachi as her lucky charm."
'Prachi is my baby'
Prachi admitted that she had been to the temple with Ekta. Asked if she had become Ekta's lucky charm, Prachi laughed, "I think you should ask Ekta."
When contacted, Ekta could not stop gushing about Prachi. "Prachi is my baby. I have unofficially adopted her. The entire Balaji office wants to adopt her. She is so sweet and lovable. Do you know she calls Shabbir Ahluwalia 'Shabbir Uncle'?"
When questioned about the temple visit the producer said, "Yes, we did go together to Mukteshwar temple last Saturday. I generally go at 12.30 and the temple people are kind enough to open the temple for me at that time."
Aati kya?
Prachi says that her visit to the temple was not planned. "I was at the Balaji office for dubbing that night. Ekta was going to the temple. She asked if I could join and I agreed." Ekta and Prachi went to Mukteshwar at 12.30 am. The temple was specially opened for the duo at that hour. Says Ekta, "Mukteshwar temple is very dear to me. I have been there during the day of floods, riots and bomb blasts too."
The 17-year-old Prachi says she is a religious person. But this was for the first time that she went to a Shani mandir in Mumbai. Asked if this would now be a permanent weekly feature, Prachi remained non-committal. "I really don't know. It will depend on whether I have time, though I don't think that will be easy because of my hectic shooting schedule."
