Actually oi thought to post a long update and end it... i did write... but tooo looongg u guys will be bored to death.... i wrote and wrote without break.. too lazy to edit then i though why bore u guys simply beacuse u are reading this ff so i devided into two parts.... 😳 😕 one i'll post here and the next may be tomrw...
so here goes... i don't know what....




Part 16



Jai left his office in the afternoon and went to his factory.



Bani did not have any idea where to go. She did not want Jai to make a scene in her apartment so she left to Walia mansion. On the way she called Sanju and told her she would be going to Walia mansion. Sanju heard her patiently and told her she would go to her apartment. Bani asked her to join her in Walia mansion but Sanju gave her some excuses and told her she would be fine in the apartment. Bani did not force her. She was tired…..



Jai was not home in the evening. Bani did want to try him in the cell but she thought against it. Tony served her dinner later at 9 pm.



Something was troubling her mind and she couldn't place it what was the problem. She had lost appetite and picked on the food. After dinner she walked to the study to get her mind of from tension. She tried to write her short stories but her mind was blank. She felt knot in her stomach her heart burned. She walked to the phone and punched his number. The ringing went on and on and it stopped. Bani put the phone down and walked back. She went to the room. She changed into her nightdress and walked to the bed.



Bani tossed and turned in her bed. She couldn't shut her eyes. She got up and took a book to read. The letters floated before her eyes. She put the book aside after few minutes. She picked up the phone and punched his number the mobile was switched off.
She looked at the clock. It was 1 am. She got up from the bed and walked towards the window. She moved the curtain and looked outside. She could see the pool from the window. She was surprised to see the light at the pool side. Bani looked once more to the pool and saw moments in the water and then she noticed Jai swimming in the pool the vision surprised her no end. She felt relieved to see him home. And wondered when he had come and why he hadn't come to the room. To make sure it was him Bani tiptoed down stairs. She walked to the back door to the pool. She saw him emerge from the pool water glistened from his body he walked towards the chair and picked up the towel. He picked up his cell phone and switched it on and placed on the chair. The cell phone rang interrupting the silence. He picked up. He switched it off and tossed it on the chair. Bani looked at him for few minutes and turned back to go she heard the gate open. Bani turned immediately to see what was happening. She saw the security and a woman walking hurriedly towards Jai. Bani's mouth dropped opened at the sight of Pia.
She heard the security tell Jai he couldn't stop the woman. Jai dismissed the security and turned to Pia.


'What the hell are you doing in here?' Bani could sense the anger.


'Jai don't do this to me.. please.. I am sorry for what I have done.. but you know why I took that extreme measure .. because I love you..' she caught his hands in her's.

Jai shrugged her off. 'You will not be forgiven Pia now leave my premises…'

'Jai please…. I love you I can't live with out you…….' Pia was hysterical.

'Out… before I call the security…' he raised his voice. Bani shivered at the coldness.

'What is in her Jai? That I don't have….'
'Pia leave…'

'Tell me damn it. What does she have? Am I not beautiful… you were forced to marry her.. why do you have to stick with her?' tears were flowing down her cheeks.

'Pia leave…. I do not have to answer your question…' he wiped his head with the towel and put it on his shoulder.
'Leave the b***h….' Pia seethed.
'Shut up and get the hell out of here….. Ram dev… Jai shouted for the security …'
Bani saw the security run towards the pool.
'Ji Sahab…'
''Show her out… and lock the gate..'
Pia stared at him and stormed off.


Bani released her breath. She had no idea what had taken place. Why he was angry and why he had thrown her out…' with out making noise she walked towards the room. Bani did not sleep. Jai did not walk to the room. She wondered where he had spent the night.

Bani was up in the morning she went to make tea for her. She did not want to trouble Tony or Basanthi for a cup of tea. She tiptoed again down stairs and walked to the kitchen. Bani were surprised to find Jai in the kitchen. He was sipping tea when she walked in he looked at her surprised.
'Good morning…'
'Good morning…' she went towards the stove to make tea.
'You are up early..' he said watching her make tea.
'hmmm..'
'Did you not sleep yesterday?'
'Yes..' Bani lied.
'Missed me?' he was at his teasing again.
'No..' Bani replied with out looking at him.
"liar..' he chuckled.
She ignored him. She took the cup and sat next to him pulling a chair.
'When did you come back?' she asked looking at him.
Last night.. I was kind of late…'
Bani nodded.
He found that peculiar… she did not ask him anything else.
Bani was lost for words. She did not know what to say to him. Last night's scene from the pool side flashed before her eyes.
Few minutes of silence passed and then she said, "Jai… I'll be going to my shop first.. there's a conference at 10 am I won't….'

'It's okay I'll manage take your time in the shop..' he interrupted her before she could ask him to excuse her…
Bani was surprised.
"Thanks….' She said.
He got up rinsed his cup and walked towards her. 'I need to go early.. I'll have breakfast out tell Tony..'
She nodded.
He leaned and kissed her head surprising Bani no end. "Take care ...' he muttered.
Bani stared at him leave.

The conference was at 10 am. Jai addressed the staff and the directors. He ordered Mrs. D'mello not to transfer any calls and he did not want any interruption.
An hour later the older woman knocked on the door and walked towards Jai breathless.
'I am extremely sorry for the interruption Mr. Walia. But you have a call and it's very urgent…'
.Jai looked at her in annoyance.
'Take the call…' Mrs. D'mello ignored his displeasure and said.
People sitting around the table stared at the woman.
'Mrs. D' mello.. You can handle the call.. ask the person I'll contact him after the meeting…'
Mrs. D'mello looked exasperated. She thrust the handset free on his hand and ordered. 'Take the call…'
Jai threw her an unbelieving look and took the call.
People around them stared at him as he spoke on the phone in few seconds he jumped out of the chair and looked at them. 'I am sorry I have to go family emergency..' on the way to the exit he threw a glance at Anil his assistant.
Anil nodded in assurance.

Jai drove the car in breakneck speed. He reached the spot in 15 minutes. Jai looked at the shop in utter horror. The shop had gone up in the smoke. With pounding heart beats he walked hurriedly towards the site. There were few fire men dowsing the fire. He screened the place to catch a glimpse of Bani. Bani was nowhere in site. Jai's eyes searched frantically for her. He spotted Rashi standing in a corner with tears in her eyes. She looked a sight. He walked hurriedly towards her. Rashi saw him and acknowledged him in relief.

'Rashi.. Where's Bani…'

'She was here a while ago trying to get into the shop.. she is devastated Mr. Walia.. that shop was her life….' Rashi cried.

Trying to get in? What are you talking about?' he asked with a scowl.

'She nodded. "The fire men had to shout at her to keep her out… she was here a moment ago…' Rashi said looking around her.

Jai left her side and went to look for Bani .. She was nowhere outside. His sixth sense told him to look for her inside the shop. Jai did not waste another minute he strode into the shop. On his way the firemen stopped him.

"You can not go in there sir.. it isn't safe…' said one of the men.
'My wife is in there.. I need to find her..' Jai ignored the man and walked towards the shop.
'Sir .. you will chock to death… your wife will be out side…. The man stopped in mid and asked him. "She is your wife?'
Jai stopped and looked at him.
'The girl… she was too difficult to handle sir we had to threaten her to keep her away from the shop…'
Jai looked at the man in bewilderment.
'You are sure she is not outside ...
Jai nodded.
'Let's go'. Said the man. The man knew there was no way of stopping this gentle man if the wife was stubborn enough the husband is more determined.
Jai held the kerchief near to his nose and walked in hurriedly. The place was filled with smoke. His attention was alerted as he heard muffled coughs.


Bani…' he shouted.

'Bani coughed again trying to pull a book that was hanging from one of the rack half burned.

Jai almost ran towards her and stood stunned watching her. She was in a mess. Her dress was covered in ashes from the books . Her face looked a sight and she looked a fright.
Bani saw him approach her thrrough a blurred vision her eyes was clouded with tears.
"Bani.. What in God's name are you doing?' those were the only words that escaped from him.


His heart and mind was occupied with horror of not finding her. He couldn't imagine what he would have done if he did not find her. A sense of relief washed through him at the sight of her.


The fire man shouted for them to get out.
Jai pulled her hand and dragged her out ignoring her protests.


He took a long deep breath once out side the smoke filled place, and looked at her.


She was staring at her shop. Bani couldn't believe it was her shop that had gutted in fire. The shop was her dream her sanctuary her life. How could this have happened? Bani looked at the book that she had pulled before leaving the place forcibly. The book was almost burned. She stared at it.


Jai's heart went out to her. His heart ached for her. His world had crumbled before him when he did not find her with Rashi.
Bani evoked in him a feeling that he had never felt for anyone in the world. He wanted to hold her protect her from all the evil in the world. He reached her shoulder and turned her towards him.
She was staring at the book not looking at him. Jai took the book from her hand and looked at it and he shifted his gaze on her face. Bani refused to look at him.
He pulled her chin up with one free hand and looked deep into her eyes.
He saw the eyes swell up with tears.
His attention suddenly turned to the commotion outside. He saw the media people walk hurriedly to the site. Jai did not think twice, he pulled her hand and took her to his car.
He opened the door for her. once seated in the car he said, 'Bani do not get out.. I'll be in a minute…'
He did not wait for her reaction. He walked hurriedly to the fire man and spoke to him and then walked to Rashi spoke to her for few minutes. Walked hurriedly to the car and drove away with Bani.



The silence and the smell of smoke filled the air. Bani looked a sight. He wanted to stop the car along the road and take Bani in his arms and comfort her, he curbed the urge to do so. She was lost in her thoughts and she sat like a statue.

On the way to Walia mansion his gaze fell now and then on her petite figure.

The car screeched to a halt at the porch of their house Jai got out and opened the door for her. Bani did not move. She was not aware she had reached her home she stared a head.
'Bani..' he touched her shoulder.
Bani looked at him startled and then got out.
Tony opened the door for him and looked at his madam startled. He looked at Jai.
'Later Tony.. get her something cold to drink bring into the room…'

Tony ran towards the kitchen. Bani did not spend a second in the living room she ran to her room as fast as her feet could take her. She wanted to be alone and she wanted to cry her heart out.
Jai followed her quickly to the room before she locked the room he got in shut it behind him.
'Go away Jai…. Leave me alone….' She almost cried sitting on the bed.

He did not know how to handle the situation. This was all new to him and the feeling was new to him. He did not like to see her in pain. He hated his inability to comfort her. He did not know what he was supposed to do.
He took a step towards her and heard a knock on the door. He knew it was Tony. He opened the door thanked Tony and took the juice from his hand. Tony left and Jai shut the door.

Jai put the glass on the tea poi and turned to her. He saw her body shiver and knew she was trying her best to not make any noise. He didn't think again. He strode towards her and sat down with her. "Bani…. stop crying…'
Bani couldn't control she broke into another fresh tears.
He reached for her and pulled her into his arms. Bani pushed his hands away.
'Go away… and leave me…' she shoved his hands away. Jai held her tightly stroking her head. Bani struggled for few minutes and then relaxed against his shoulder. She had stopped crying.
Jai spoke nothing he caressed her shoulders and back holding her to him.

Bani's eyes dropped to shut. She was feeling tired and sleepy. She snuggled closer to him. Jai dropped a kiss on her head. Her hair smelled of smoke. He looked at her and saw her eyes closed. He moved his hand from her and got up to give her space to lie down.
'Don't leave.. she murmured.
"I won't ...' he assured her. 'I'll be here make your self comfortable Bani and don't think about anything….'
Bani stretched on the bed and closed her eyes. Jai looked at her for a moment and walked to the window and took his cell phone out. He punched the number of Rashi.

'Rashi… so how's everything?'

'Okay now but Mr. Walia.. I don't know how Bani's going to take this.. the fire wasn't due to short circuit… somebody had deliberately had set the fire…' she said worriedly.

Jai stood stunned.

'Mr. Walia….'
"Yes Rashi…'
"I have given a written complaint…'
'Thank you.. I'll take care.. and Rashi take care …'
He disconnected the call.
His cell buzzed and he picked up it was Mrs. D'mello. Jai assured her Bani was fine and told her not to worry.
The next moment his assistant Anil called. Jai spoke to him in length and before switching of the cell he called Masi and told her everything about it. Assured her Bani was fine and she was taking rest. He then switched off the cell.

Jai's attention turned to Bani a she thrashed and moaned in her sleep he walked to her hurriedly and sat down beside her. Bani snapped opened her eyes and stared.

She sat up immediately and looked at him. 'I am scared Jai something is not right. I know it something is not right…' she was almost hysterical.
'May be a bad dream.' he assured her stroking her head.
She shook her head. "I can feel it something bad is going to happen..'

'Relax Bani.. Nothing will happen…' he said taking her in his arms. Bani did not protest she felt safe and secured in his arms.
Bani put her hands around him and snuggled closer to him.
Jai knew she was frightened. He should do something to get her mind off the fear.
'Bani…..' He called her over her head.
'mmm..'
'Go take bath.. you are smelling of smoke…. I'll fall unconscious if I sit with you another minute….' He was at his teasing mood again.

Bani pushed him and glared at him.

Jai grinned with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
She pushed him again and got up being dragged back by him.
She fell on him and he nuzzled her ears playfully.
Bani pushed him again and got up. He let her go. She walked to her wardrobe
Picked her dress and walked to the bathroom he called her.

'Bani…'
She stopped and turned to him.
He got up from the bed walked towards her and stood before her gazing into her eyes.
Bani felt uncomfortable at the look. She looked away. He took her face in his hand and looked deep into her eyes. Bani stood mesmerized forgetting everything that had happened to her from the morning.
'I love you…' he said.

She stared at him not believing if she had heard right.

He nodded.

Bani's eyes filled with tears. Her vision blurred. In another second she fell on him wrapping her arms around him. His shirt drenched in her tears. Jai tried to free him from her grip but she wouldn't leave him finally he gave up holding her in his arms.
'Bani… how much tears are you going to waste today?' he asked with laughter in his voice.
Bani moved from him and wiped her tears stained face.

She picked up the dress that had fallen from hand when she hugged him.

'I .. er will take bath..' she said stepping away from him and not looking at his face. She had shamelessly thrown herself at him. But he loved her she corrected her from being embarrassed.

She walked to the bathroom and pulled the handle. Bani's eyes grew wide with fear she did not know what was happening she was being pushed away from the door with a fraction of a second.
A woman emerged from the bathroom with a knife in her hand.

Jai pushed her away and caught Pia's hand and threw the knife from her hand.
Bani stared at her in horror. She looked from her husband to Pia who was struggling from his arms to get free.
Bani did not understand what was going on she stared at them in shock.

Pia struggled to free her from Jai's iron grip. Bani couldn't make sense of the things happening before her Pia screamed and shouted and jai controlled his anger imprisoning her in his grip.

'Bani take the phone and call the police….' Jai ordered.
Bani stared at him not moving from the spot.. Bani heard the running of foot steps and pounding on the door. In another second Tony flew opened the door and stared at the vision that greeted him.

'"Tony.. Take this woman and do not leave her…' Jai ordered.
Tony did as he was told Pia struggled from his grip voicing threats.
Jai picked up the phone and dialed the police.

He put the phone down and looked at his wife. She looked as white as a sheet.
Jai touched her shoulder and Bani fainted.

When Bani woke up, she was lying on the bed and there wasn't any one in the room. She looked about her frightened. She tried to get up and her head ached.
There was deafening silence in the room. She felt thirsty. She looked around the room. She sat on the bed and put her foot down the bathroom door clicked opened and Bani screamed in Fear.
'Bani…' Jai ran towards her and shook her.
She opened her eyes and saw him and a relief washed through her. He pulled her in his arms and secured his arms around her.
'You are fine….' He said soothing her.
'Water..' she said. Her tongue was sticking to her mouth and she was feeling weary.
He left her took the water jug and poured water for her.
Bani gulped down the water and looked at him with tear filled eyes.
She couldn't imagine the events that took place.
Jai looked down at her face. He took her face in his hands stroking her cheeks with his thump he kissed her eyes. "No more tears….' He said holding her to him.

He knew there were many questions inside her. She looked anxious and tired and messy.

'First what you need is a warm bath… I'll ask Basanthi to help you..' he said.
She shook her head. "No.. I can mange…' she said.
Alright… now get to the bathroom and come back soon I am very hungry..'
She looked at the time it was half past eight. She forced a smile.
'Good… he bent his head and gave her a soft kiss.
Bani blushed.
She walked to the bathroom with her dress and stood before the mirror. She was shocked to find a woman who looked white as a sheet stare at her.
She went and opened the shower and stood under it for some time.

Jai was still in the room as she came out. He saw her and asked, "feeling good?'
She nodded.
Jai stared at her not taking his eyes and Bani looked away blushing.

She walked to the dressing table took out the hair drier and dried her hair all the time Jai looking at her from the settee in the pretext of reading a book. Bani noticed him from the mirror and her cheeks grew pink.
She put the drier down combed her hair and turned to him he was beside her.
He took her hand in his and pulled her towards the door. "Let's have our dinner Tony made the food with lots of love and then give me those looks..'
Bani blushed scarlet. Her husband was outrageously blunt.

He grinned stopping at the door and pressing a kiss on her.
Bani turned all read. Jai groaned and pulled her down the stairs to the dining room. The food was ready and Tony smiled at Bani.
'How are you feeling madam?' he asked with concern.
'Fine Tony.. Thank you.'
Tony served the food and left them at the table. Bani did not have any appetite. She picked on the food getting lost in thoughts.

She looked back at the day.
Her shop was burned. A woman had come hidden in the bathroom to kill her. At the thought she choked.

She pushed the plate aside and got up.

'Sit down Bani…' he caught her hand and pushed her slightly on the chair.

Bani looked at him.

"I can explain….'

Bani looked at him expectantly. She wanted to know what had happened.

'You do remember about crank calls and photos..' he began slowly drawing her attention.
She nodded.
"Pia was behind it…' he said anger rising in his voice. "She wanted to marry me and get her hands on the whole property…."

'How did she think she can marry you?' she asked impulsively.

Jai was lost for words.

Why did she think she can marry him?
Did he lead her in the wrong direction?
She was his friend. He had never shown extra interest in her. But he had ignored the looks she had given him times. She did try to commit suicide when she told him she had heard about his engagement.
Jai remembered the day .. He had received a call from her when he took Bani to Masi's house. Jai had tried his best to make her understand he only liked her as a friend Pia should only think him as a friend. After explaining to her in lengths she had understood his stand so he believed as she had smiled at him and promised to be a good friend. When questioned about talking to Bani about cutting her wrist Pia had laughed and told him she just wanted to see Bani's reactions and it was just a prank she played.

Bani cleared her throat for his attention.
Jai looked at her. "I don't know Bani…. I have never led her to believe I was interested in her. She was just a friend.. though she doesn't deserve to be one.' He gritted his teeth pushing his plate away from him. 'The day you left here Bani.. I had hired a detective. I gave him the photographs and asked to find the guy.. what was his name? Yes… Pushkar. It did take him time to find him. Yesterday evening he called me to say he saw Pushkar and asked me to reach there before the guy left. I went there. The place Pushkar went to was Pia's. I was few minutes late to catch the guy getting out of her apartment. Raj.. the person I had hired caught him and I went directly to Pia's apartment….' Jai stopped and looked her.
Bani stared at him open mouthed. This was all a nightmare she thought. She had seen this kind of planning plotting only in movies… here things was happening to her.
Jai held her trembling hand in his.
'What did Pia say when she saw you?' Bani asked almost in a whisper.
She was horrified to see me. She denied all the charges and finally … well Bani she did not give up I severed all ties with her and threatened her not to show her face again. If she did she would have to face with the consequences…… Now it's over she will not trouble us any more….'
'What happened to her?' Bani did not remember what had happened.
'We handed her to the police and your friend Pushkar…'
'What will the police do to her?' Bani was genuinely concerned she was after all a woman.
'You don't worry about her. She will pay for the things she had done…' Jai couldn't forget the look on Pia's face as she had come towards Bani with the knife. Jai had almost died of shock at the sight if he hadn't acted fast Bani would have been. He shuddered to think about it. He took her hand in his and kissed her palm.
The telephone rang and Bani went to get it.

'Hello..'

Bani…' shouted from the other end.

'Sanju….'

'How are you Bani? Are you all right?'
'Yes… where are you?' Bani asked.
'I am out side your house ask bully of your husband if I can come in?' she said angrily.

Bani threw him a look . Jai threw her look and continued with his food.

'Come in side Sanju…. Wait I'll come .' Bani disconnected the line and ran out side the dining room. She went and opened the door for her.

Sanjana glowered at her from the door and the next instant she threw her hand over Bani in a tight hug.

'Bani.. you really frightened us… you are alright ? right? She pushed her away from her and looked at Bani from head to toe.
Bani smiled.

"Come in…'

Sanjana walked in and looked around. "Where is the big bully?'

Bani knew whom she was referring. 'Having dinner…'
'Dinner? Come on then.. my stomach is growling…' Sanju dragged her to the dining room.
Bani shook her head exasperated.
Sanju saw Jai at the table. She pulled a chair and sat down.
Bani went to the kitchen and asked Tony to get a plate.
When she came back Sanju was looking at Jai accusingly.
Tony came to the dining room and smiled at Sanju. He placed the plate before her. Sanju returned his smile.

Bani served her food and sat down beside her.

Jai ate his meal silently waiting for Sanjana's out bursts.

Bani saw the tension between the two and asked exasperated. "Is there something I don't know you guys want to tell me?'

Sanjana stopped from having another piece of paratha said, "your husband refused me to see you in the house?'

Bani couldn't believe her she looked at Jai.

He ignored the accusation.

'Why did he do that? She finally asked.

'I don't know ask your bully. I only just wanted to see you if you are alright because I don't trust this man. He pushed me out of the door and said not to disturb you. You are resting…. Bani you are after all my friend how can I disturb you I just wanted to see you with my two eyes he wouldn't… Sanjana pointed at him her fingers and glared.

'I did not push her out…' he said after sometime I asked her to come back later and see you…'


Bani looked at Sanjana.

'Okay he did not push me out but it was as good as throwing me out.. how dare he do that Ban ? Does he not know what you mean to me? I was hurt…'

Bani looked at Jai…

'You were asleep. The doctor had just left you when she came…. You were no state to acknowledge your friend. I asked her to see you later….'
'That's it?' Bani asked looking at both of them.
'That's not it…who is he to decide you were not in good state Bani?' Sanjana snapped.

Bani's eyes widened. What's wrong with this girl she thought?

'She is my wife I know what's good for her.' he snapped.

'So what you are her husband the whole world knows about that…what she is to you only we know…why the sudden caring Mr. high and mighty Walia?' she asked munching her food and throwing a glance at Bani who looked uncomfortable.

Jai looked at Bani and Bani gave him a feeble smile.

'What do you know about us Sanjana Mishra do enlighten me…' he said looking squarely at her.

Bani held her head in her hand. What's wrong with this two? Why are they hell bent on making her embarrassed?

'You married her for money and you keep her here as a prisoner and your girl friend came to murder her and she even burns Bani's shop…'

Bani looked at her startled. The last information was new to her.

Jai kicked himself for challenging the big mouth. He decided to tell Bani about it later. This day was too much for her.

Sanjana saw the sudden change of his face she looked at Bani. Bani looked shocked and she knew the blunder she had made.

'Oh God!!!…. Sanjana dropped the food on the plate and got up. "I am sorry Ban me and my big mouth…' she put her hand on her shoulder and said.
'I am sorry….' Sanjana threw a look at Jai who watched them from distance.
'Do something.' she murmured above her head to him.

Jai did not know what to do. The shop was her life and it was too sensitive to handle…

Sanjana motioned him to handle the situation.

Jai pushed his chair walked up to her. Sanjana gave him way. Jai lifted Bani from the seat. ' I am sorry for not telling you about it…'
Bani couldn't hold back she forgot Sanjana was there. She broke into tears.

Sanjana's face blanched. She looked apologetically at Jai. He gave her a assuring look.
'Come on Bani we will rebuild everything that's been lost in the fire. I promise you. And your friend will stay in town and help you to set the place'. He concluded.
'How is that possible?' asked Sanjana. 'I have to go back..'

'You will not go anywhere unless and until you finish the job…' he threatened her.

They fought again and Bani's attention was diverted to them.
A smile formed between the tears. Bani wiped her eyes and looked at them.

'Enough both of you I am very tired I had like to retire…'

Bani left them and Sanjana turned to Jai. 'Thank you….'
He smiled and left her in the dining room.

Bani had asked Tony to set the room for Sanjana she would be spending the night at Walia mansion.

She went and freshened up promising not to cry again and burden any one she would be strong.

Jai was not in the room when Bani freshened up and came to the room. She opened the room and walked to the study.

The door was ajar. She pushed the door slightly and walked in. Jai was standing before the portrait of his father.
Bani walked up to him Jai looked over his shoulders as she approached.

'What's happening?' she asked.

His attention turned on the portrait again.

'I was thanking him…' he said.

For what? She asked hugging him from the back pressing her face on his back and inhaling the scent from his cologne he had used.

'For you….' He pulled her from the back and held her to him, squeezing her shoulder.

Bani looked at him with a frown.

'He knew the right thing when he bound us together in a will… I have always challenged him… but the old man knew the best was for his children. I haven't given him any chance to know him or him to know me.. but sometimes I feel he did know me..' Jai was quiet for a moment and then continued..' I had like to know him Bani through you… I want to know what you guys shared.. I ….' Bani patted his hand assuring him. 'I was angry at him for forcing to share a will that was rightfully mine. Not that I was hungry for wealth. It was some kind of stubbornness in me to not share with anyone though I didn't give him any chance to be with me when he was alive.. I did not want it to go to anyone else I was angry how he could have loved some stranger who was not bound to him by birth I was jealous… jealous of you.. You got what I had craved for when I was a boy…'

Bani stood close to him pressing her head on his shoulder. She felt the pain. She knew it was difficult for him to say things that were buried inside him for ages.

They stood for a moment not saying anything. Bani turned startled as she heard a knock on the door. They turned their heads to find Sanju grinning at them from the door.

'Sorry…. I actually came to check on my friend if she was okay…' Sanju Said from the door.

'Bani…. get her out of here before I throw her out of this house….' Jai said through his teeth.

Bani chuckled.

'Hey wait….. I honestly am sorry.. Actually I came to get a dress to change.. I tried to sleep in this garbage I am wearing but these sequences keep poking me… can I get one.. please…'
Bani left his side and walked towards her Jai following her.

Bani got her a night dress and Jai said, "now get out and do not disturb….'
'Yes sir..' Sanju gave him a salute and winked at Bani.
On the way to her room Sanju called out, " I am not taking all this rude remark of yours to my heart….Mr. Walia because you are the love of my friends life….'

'Thank you very much..' Jai called out after her looking at Bani's pink cheeks.

He closed the door and looked at his wife. "What did she say?'

'I don't know….' Bani shrugged her shoulders. Jai watched her for a moment.

He lifted her in his arms and Bani's cheeks turned pinker.

'Why don't I find the tag that was hanging around your neck for sometime?'

'What tag? She asked trying to avoid his intense gaze.

'Touch me not tag….'

Bani hid her face on his chest. With a chuckle he lifted her face pressed a deep kiss…..
Bani knew in her heart she had found her true love in Jai Walia.
As for Jai he thanked his father million times as he took every step carrying her close to his heart. …………..

Epilogue…..

Jai signed the deal and looked at the Japanese with a smile. The delegates returned his smile holding his hand and promising to keep the business in future.

This was one of the best day at work for him and Bani as usual was missing. She always ran to her shop to check on the renovation. It has been six months since the disaster.
She had promised to meet him in the office before he signed the contact. As usual she forgot about it. He was slightly hurt by her action. He would this time show her his displeasure.. Jai had decided.
The delegates left and Jai walked to his cabin. He picked up the phone to call her and blast then thought against it.

Bani looked at the time. She knew she had missed the occasion but she had more important thing to tell him. She had been waiting fro this for quiet sometime.

She walked to the lobby pressed the elevator and stood impatiently for the elevator.

Bani walked out of the elevator and walked briskly to his office. She knocked on the door with butterflies in her stomach. Jai and Anil was sitting and discussing something.
Bani walked in and Jai turned his attention on Anil.
'Anil… you can arrange the meeting and ask….'

'Excuse me Anil…' Bani was impatient to get Jai alone.
'Yes Madam…' Anil turned his attention on Bani.
'Excuse us for few minutes… ' she said trying not to blush.

Anil was up from his chair. "sir, I'll proceed with the our new plan… so good day..'

He took his leave from Jai and nodded at Bani.
Jai looked at her angrily.

'I am sorry Jai…. I need to tell you something..' she said trying to keep the excitement from her voice.
'What Bani? how could you do this to me? Did I not tell you to be here for the…..'
'Oh.. Jai forget about the contract…. I have something more important to tell you…
'What?' he snapped. "Your little shop is looking wonderful?' I have heard that million times…'
'Oh Boy…. You are jealous of my shop…. I don't believe this..' Bani said in mock anger.
Jai contained his smile. She had the knack to change the subject when it came to the office and work.
Bani walked towards his chair and hugged him from behind. She leaned and kissed him on the cheek.
'Have you any idea how much I love you today?' she asked murmuring in his ears.
'What is so special about to day?' he asked trying to look angry with her.
'I don't know about you Mr. Khadoos…. I am on the seventh heaven because.. I am going to be a mother….' She said burying her face on his head.

Jai did not respond for a second. He then looked back at her from his shoulder.

Bani nodded blushing.

He did not know what to say to her. Their eyes met for a long moment and he pulled her towards him.

"You are sure?'

'Han.. the doctor confirmed… I was at the clinic when you were singing the contract.. Sorry for not being here..'

When he did not respond she asked, 'don't you have anything to tell me? Are you not happy?'

He smiled taking her in his arms and kissing her. Bani did not have to ask what he felt. She knew. Her heart swelled with happiness. Snuggling closer to him she shut her eyes dreaming about the child that would fill their lives with love and happiness…
