Chapter 9

Nishikant, Uday and Krishna all beamed at her answer. They were so glad that her answer was yes. Even Rano! She ran to her Di and enveloped her into a bear hug, nearing crushing Bani! Only one person present wasn't liking the way things were going. Jai Walia sat rooted to the sofa, he couldn't believe that this girl said yes. He was hoping that she would say no, but she had agreed! " Oh God, kahan phas gaya main!"

Krishna walked to where Bani stood who immediately bent to take aashirwad. "Jeete raho beti. Main aaj bohot bohot bohot hi khush hoon. Aaj mere bete ko eik achi si jeevan sathi mili hain. Mere dono beto (Ranveer too whom she treats as her son too) ki shaadi hone wali hoon. Jai yahan ana"

Jai, thinking in his head: Oh God, aab kya hoga??

Jai stood and walked over to where his mother and wife-to-be stood. Krishna took Jai's hand, reaching for Bani's hand, she placed her hand in Jai's hand. Jai merely gaped at their joined hands whilst Bani felt butterflies in her stomach upon contact. She couldn't help but blush and quickly looked down to prevent anyone from seeing that.

Krishna: Tum dono ki jodi ko kisiki bhi nazar na lage. Jai and Bani both bent to take her aashirwad. While doing that, she met Jai's eyes which were fixed on her and involuntarily blushed and quickly looked away. "Jhub jhub jiyo." Krishna then patted Bani's head affectionately and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Aajse tum hamari amanat ho. Mujhe to bas ab us din ka intezaar hain jab tum aur Rano mere ghar mein pravesh karoge."

Nishikant smiled and felt tears forming in his eyes. He was so glad that his 2 daughters were getting married and into the same family. But also saddened at the fact that he was going to be alone without his daughters.

Uday: Aab hum chalte hain. Humein in dono bacho ki engagement ki tariq fix karni hain.

Nishikant, getting out from his thoughts: Ji.. Haan jaise aap kahein.

Before they left, Krishna Walia gently took Bani's and Rano's hands and looked at Nishikant and said, Bhaisaab, hum apni dono bahu ko aapke haath mein saup kar jah rahe hain. Aajse yeh dono hamari amanat hain.

As they left, both Bani and Rano ran into their father's arms and wept their hearts out. In a few weeks time, they would be gone from this house forever, leaving behind years full of wonderful memories with one another, with their parents. Nishikant let his daughter's cry and held them close, wanting to cherish the moment forever.

~ One week passed, Day of Engagement between Jai-Bani and Rano-Ranveer

Walia mansion was buzzing with activities since morning. Today was Jai's and Ranveer's engagement ceremony to their prospective brides. By now, the whole mansion was decorated like a bride, breath-takingly beautiful to anyone who laid their eyes on it. Afterall, it was the 2 most eligible bachelors engagement ceremony!

After Bani had accepted Jai's proposal, the elders of the Walia family had immediately decided to fix the engagement date for the 2 couple. It was decided that one week later the engagement should be held and 3 days after, the wedding as there was no other mahurat for these auspicious ceremonies. Also Uday and Krishna Walia had insisted that Nishikant, Bani and Rano come to stay at their outhouse so that it would be easier for the girls.

~~ Outhouse

Bani sat infront of the dresser, looking at the person in the mirror. Was that really her? Dressed in a purple lengha choli with silver sequins and crystal hand embroidery on the lengha and choli with a matching dupatta in georgette which had extensive embroidery. And together with it, she wore an antique jewellery set; a pendant necklace and earrings both inlaid with purple and clear stones.

She continued to stare at her reflection as the final touch-ups were being done; putting her dupatta in face and making sure everything was done properly. She still couldn't believe that today she was getting engaged to Jai Walia. The Jai Walia. One of the most eligible bachelor together with his cousin brother, Ranveer who was marrying her little sister. She was also living in the Walia's outhouse now after which she would be living in Walia Mansion with her husband. Her husband? Involuntarily, a blush crept up her cheeks. She was soon going to be the wife of Jai Walia. She was interupted from her thoughts when she heard her little sister call her. Turning around, she saw Rano who was looking stunning. Dressed in a red satin lengha choli with zardozi embroidery on the choli and a plain skirt and a crushed silk tissue dupatta draped around her body. Along with that, she wore a red jewellery set; the necklace and earrings both

inlaid with teardrop-shaped red stones along its entire length.

Rano: Di, aap to bohot hi sundar lag rahi ho! Aapko to koi bhi dekhar pagal ho jayega!

Bani: Rano! Kaise baatein kar rahi ho.. Watch what your saying you little devil.

Rano: Ok ok Di! I was just joking Di. But you're really looking beautiful.

Bani: Aur tum bhi Rano. Meri choti behen aaj to bohot sundar lag rahi hain. Ranveer ko behosh karne ka irada hain kya?

Rano stared at her Di, shocked! She had just reprimanded her for teasing her, and now her Di was teasing her back!

Rano: DI!!!

Bani laughed as Rano blushed but stopped as she saw tears in her eyes.

Bani: Kya huwa Rano? Tumari aankhon mein yeh aasu kyun?

Rano, choking on her words: Di.. Di.. I don't feel like leaving papa and our home. I'll miss him so much Di!

Bani herself felt tears sting the back of her eyes. She couldn't let them out. If she herself broke down, who would help her Rano then?

Rano: Nahin Rano, tum aisa mat bolo. It's a custom that every girl leave her maayka to go to her sasural. And besides, we can always go back and visit papa na? Aisa to nahin hain na that we will be leaving him forever, jab chahe hum unse mil sakte hain. Chalo aab yeh aasu puch lo varna wo tumara Ranveer mujhe pitne ayega aur kahega ki meine uski Rano ko rulaya hain.

Rano smiled as she wiped her tears away. Bani enveloped her sister into her arms to calm her down. They didn't realize that their father was standing at the door, smiling at them and his eyes filled with tears. He walked in and hugged them both. Bani and Rano felt their father's presence and immediately let themselves be enveloped by their father's warmth.

Nishikant: Aaj mein bohot bohot khush hoon. Meri dono beti aaj kisiki jeeven sathi banne jaa rahi hain. Tum dono hamesha khush raho, yehi ab meri duwayein hongi. Ab chalo the guest must be waiting for you two.

As they entered Walia Mansion, they were greeted by Krishna Walia. She did the aarthi of the 2 bahus and led them inside. Everyone's attention fell upon them. The 2 grooms, Jai and Ranveer too had their gaze intently fixed on their wife-to-be. Ranveer for the first time was seeing Rano in traditional clothes, and only one word came to his mind; beautiful. He felt his stomach do a somersault as his eyes met hers. Gosh, she was gorgeous! On the other hand, Jai too gaped at Bani. He had to say, she looked stunning. " Did I just say that?? No.. no cannot be. I must be going nuts to say that." He still couldn't believe that he was getting engaged. And not to the person he loved. But some other girl whom his parents had chosen.

Soon, the 2 couple stood with their respectives partners. Uday and Krishna Walia gave Jai the engagement ring whilst Nishikant gave Bani hers. Aditya and Jigyasa too gave Ranveer the ring and Nishikant once again gave Rano hers. As the couples exchanged rings, everyone gathered clapped for the 2 new couple; Jai and Bani & Ranveer and Rano.

yayayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!! they got engaged!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was wonderful!!!!!!!!!

i wonder when jai-bani are actually going to talk to each other???
