The girl is crazy he had decided.
'God has given you chance to be nice one last time…. Do good….' She said walking towards him.
'Like you are doing?' Jai was sarcastic again.
Bani ignored his comment. 'Untie him jai Walia and let the poor man go….'
Jai shook his head exasperated.
Bani immediately turned towards the skinny man and asked eagerly, "how did you get in here?'
He looked at the window.
'Yes I know that …but how? Kya paani nahin tha?' she was hopeful.
'Pani tha… mein….'
'He swam dear…..' she heard Jai behind her. 'Come here..' he pulled her sleeve and walked her to the window with the torch in hand. He opened the window and directed the light out side. 'Look… if you think you can go out with him then you are out of your mind…'
Bani shoved his hand. The water is neck deep there was no way she getting out with out drowning. And she did not know how to swim. Bani walked to the settee and sat down little away from the intruder. Jai felt bad for diminishing her hope.
'Subha thak teek hojayenge…' he said after a while.
'NAhin teek hoga… yeh rath ki subha nahin hogi…' she said dejectedly.
To lighten her mood he said, 'yeh tho picture ki title nahin hui…'
'muje nahin patha… jai Walia usse chod do. Yahan koi police nahin ayegi….. aa bhi nahin sakthi… let him go.. let him spend the night with his children….. BAghwaan yee thum ne kya kiya…. She cried looking heavenwards.

Jai felt very bad for her. He moved to the skinny man and untied him. Took her duppatta away from him. 'Go… before I change my mind..' the man got up quickly threw Bani a grateful look and ran to the window climbed it like an expertise and jumped deep into the water. Bani stared unbelievingly.

Jai broke into a smile. 'Satisfied? You were worried about his health now you saw how like an expertise he jumped out of the window…'
Bani shook her head. 'Hope nothing happens to him.'
'Nothing will happen to him. And nothing is going to happen to you. You are safe here and by tomorrow you will be sitting with your family. He said handling her duppatta.
'lekin kaise? You just showed me the water level… it hasn't gone down.' She said burying her face on her knees.
Jai very much wanted to reach out to her but he feared. This was new to him the whole situation was new to him. He hadn't expected something as such would happen in his life. He somehow liked the girl immensely. She was a mixture of a character. He walked to his desk and sat down in his seat stretching his feet on the desk.

Bani wanted to believe him that nothing was going to happen and they all would be safe but how? She lifted her face up from her knees and looked around the room. He was seated behind his desk the torch was placed on his desk. The light from the torch was dimming and she knew any moment they would be in total darkness. Him and her. The realization struck her like a thunder bolt. She scrambled to her feet. 'Jai Walia… I think we should go and sit down with the other staffs….'
'Why?' he was surprised at her sudden request.
The light … I mean the torch… God why was she getting tongue tied all of a sudden. 'the light from the torch is dim any moment we will be in darkness…' saying that she opened the door.
He got up and followed her. They walked to the reception area his staff was gathered there. There wasn't much of light. All the candles had been used. Shobna looked up as they approached. She extended her hand for Bani. Bani smiled at her gratefully. She sat beside the woman. Raman and his accounts staff Anil moved aside for Jai to take seat.

8hrs later.

Bani hugged Shobna for the fourth time. 'I am so happy the water level has gone down. Shall we go….'
Shobna smiled at her shaking her head. Bani's gaze screened the room.. Jai Walia was nowhere to be seen. She did wanted to tell him that he was right and she was going home and he need not have to give her job out of pity…. She lingered there for a moment.
'Come on Bani let us move..' Shobna nudged her.
'One moment Shobna ji I needed to see some one…' Bani left her side and walked fast to his cabin. She knocked on the door and went in. Jai was straightening his crumbled shirt. She cleared her throat. He turned his attention to her. Bani was tongue tied all of a sudden. She forgot what she came to tell him. 'Yes Dixit…..'
'Bye..' she murmured and closed the door after her.

Three weeks later.

Jai walked to his room tired and exhausted. He pulled the tie from his collar and collapsed on the armchair. The day was very hectic. He had two meetings and it went for hours. His maasi walked in with a cup of coffee.
'Kya hua munna thak gaya kya?'
'Han masi… aaj kuch zyada kaam tha….'
He took the coffee cup from her and sipped.
'munna aaj ek party thi shouri ke yehan us ki beti ki mehendi ki rasam hein. Kyona hum chalein…..' she said looking at her nephew.
'mehendi ki rasam mein mein kya karoon? Who sab tho ladkiyonki rasam heinaaa…' he knew his aunt she had been after him to like a girl and settle down.
'Yes its women party.. lekin aadmi log bhi honge aur bahoth sari sundar ladkiyan bhi.. thum chaloooo…' Massi's tone changed.
Jai put the coffee cup away and looked at his masi. 'Masi you are wasting your time with me.. I wont like anyone .. Besides I am tired.
Masi got up angrily and muttered. 'Why would you listen to me Jai I am not your mother aur muje yeh haque bhi nahin hona chahiyein ki mera beta shadi karke settle hojayein….' She walked to the door.
Jai got up from the chair and held her hand. 'Itna drama karne ki zaroorath nahin.. aap kyon mere peeche pade ho….. He couldn't understand. She herself did not get married then why bother him to tie the knot?
Masi's face cracked into a smile.. muje ek bahoo chahiyein…'
'give me time..'
'Aur kithna doon? You are already 30 budda hogaye ho….' She teased.
'Is budde se koun shadi karega?' he asked twinkle in his eyes.
'Hogi koyi pagal si ladki.. mere payare budde se shadi karne keliyein…'
Jai broke into laughter. Bani's face flashed in front of him.
Where did she disappear? He had expected to see her the next day and she never turned up. Jai couldn't understand why he felt she had let him down. And surprisingly he realized he was missing her. They had met once and spend the whole day together in a bizarre situation. She had made him laugh and she had made him angry and when she left it made him kind of lonely. Where was she?

Jai was snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of his masi.. 'Kyon munna us ladki ke barein me soch rahe ho?'
Jai dismissed her and walked to the bathroom to freshen up.

An hour later.

Bani dressed in pink salwar khameez. She looked her in the mirror and left the room satisfied.
'beta jaldi karo…..' her mom called out from the door.

Her father waited in the car with a poker face. He hated parties. If it was not for his wife he wouldn't have agreed to go with them. His father-in-law had appeared at his door steps after22 yrs. Prakash dixit eloped with Kiran Deshmuk 22 yrs ago and married. Both the parties were thrown out of their respective families. It took 22 yrs for her father to forgive his daughter who disobeyed him and married a Zamindars son. He wanted his daughter to marry a business man like him. She fell for a Gau wala. Though Praksh hailed from a good family Kiran's father refused to acknowledge him as his son-in-law. A week ago the old man walked into their apartment in Santa Cruz and hugged and made up with his daughter. Apologized to Praksh Dixit and requested him to move in with him. Praksh Dixit who still had pride refused that offer. They would stay where they were and would go and meet her father when ever possible.

Prakash Dixit couldn't refuse the invitation of Shouries his father-in-law specifically phoned and compelled them to attend the party. Praksh couldn't say no to him and he wanted to do something for his family. Anil shouri was married to Kiran's aunt.
Though kiran's father forgave them praksh's father never once tried to patch the indifference between them. He was a true Zamindar.

Bani walked into the party with her family in tow. Her grand father met them at the door. shouries welcomed them heartily. Kiran hugged her aunt met her cousins and introduced Bani to the family. Prakash looked lost. Kiran's father walked up to him took him by the arm and proudly introduced him as his son-in-law.

Bani befriended her cousins and enjoyed the party with them. The bride Nisha and Bani hit it off immediately.

30 minutes later

Jai walked in to the party with Masi and his sister Jigyasa and her children. Jai joined his group of men.

Masi walked up to Jai and caught his sleeve 'come on Jai …. Come and meet the girls..' jai looked hopelessly at his aunt.
'Masi do not embarrass me….' He removed her hand from his sleeve and turned colliding with someone. Jai steadied the person and looked at his soiled shirt. His shirts sleeve was smudged with henna. The girl gaped at the shirt in horror. 'I am sorry….' She said and looked at the man who stared at his shirt. 'Mr. Jai Walia…..' Bani looked at him surprised. Jai's gaze fell on the girl and his eyes widened. "Dixit…. What a surprise…'
Masi looked from Jai to the girl.
'Kya Jai yeh wohi……' before MAsi could finish the sentence he shoved her to the group of ladies. 'aap ko Aunti bula rahi hein…..'
Masi threw him an accusing look and walked to the ladies.

Bani turned her attention back to him. She hadn't expected to meet him here. He had been always on her mind. When ever she thought of the horrible day she thought of him and she would miss him for no reason. She had cursed her several times for not going back and taking the job he had offered. There was something about him that drew her towards him. They had just met for a day and she felt she knew him for a long time.
'yeh kya kiya thum ne Bani……. hamare hero ki shirt thum ne karab kardi…' Her cousin spoke, breaking Bani from her never ending thoughts.
Jai smiled wishing Nsiha.
'meri galthi nahi thi Nisha ek accident…..' she said guiltily. 'I am sorry what do I do now?' she removed the crumble from his sleeve staining the shirt even more.
Bani caught her tongue between her teeth and looked apologetically at him. 'Sorry….'
Nisha laughed uproar sly drawing attention from the other guests. Masi walked back to him and said. 'Koi bath nahin…. Beta yeh tho bas ek shirt hein…….. acha thumhara naam kya hein…? She asked looking at Bani.
'Uska koi nam nahin hein masi aap aayein…' Jai cought masi's hand and walked her away from Nisha and Bani. Nisha laughed. Bani looked confused.
'You come with me Bani…. don't mind him. He is sick of his Masi's match making for him.'

Bani smiled.
She looked at the way Jai went.

Bani did not see him rest of the party or his Masi.

She walked around the house with Nisha's sister in tow. The little girl showed her the house. The first floor of the house was deserted. All the guests were down stairs.
'Bani di kaisa laga humara ghar?'
'Bahoth acha Roma….'
'Aap ko mein apna kamra dikha doon?' the girl asked excited.
'Han….' Bani smiled at her. They walked through a corridor and opened the door on the left. It was a beautiful room. Painted pink. Lots of soft toys had been lying on the floor and above the bed hung Hrithik Roshan's huge poster. 'Kya wo thumhara hero hein?' Bani asked smiling.
She smiled shyly. They got out of the room and walked back to the corridor walking past a balcony the door was left opened. Bani stopped… walked towards the door. 'Bani di mein jaon…..'
'Han thum jao I'll close the door. Bani kept her hand on the handle to pull the door shut. A hand reached her wrist and pulled her outside to the balcony. Bani opened her mouth to scream. Her mouth was closed with a strong palm. She struggled against the man trying to breathe. 'Stay quietly', Whispered the man hoarsely. Bani struggled against him fear gripping her every being.


Jai had wanted to speak to Bani he wanted to ask why she did not turn up for the job she very much wanted to have. He had seen her go upstairs with Roma. He had waited for her to return. Instead Roma returned alone. Jai walked up to the girl and asked. 'Aap ke sath bani thi na Kahan gayi?'
'Wo balcony ki door khuli thi bani di ne kahan wo bandh karke ayegi….'
Jai let her go. His gaze fell on the stairs from time to time and there was no trace of Bani. Jai couldn't stay back for long. He felt something was wrong. He had that sensation. He took long strides and climbed the stairs. He moved quickly to the balcony and opened the door. The intruder was caught of guard. Bani's eyes snapped opened the next moment she saw the intruder fall flat on the ground. Jai bashed him up drawing her away from the man. He twisted his arm at the back and looked at Bani. She gave him her duppatta like an automaton. He tied the man's hand and turned his attention to much shocked Bani. 'You do attract intruders like moths are attracted to fire..' he said looking at her frightened face. Jai did not want to think what would have happened if no one came by. In his anger he kicked him again. The man on the ground winced. 'What do I do with him? Should I turn him to the police? Or should we take him down stairs and feed him the party meal?' he asked frustrated not taking his eyes of her face. Bani's face fell. Hot tears ran down her cheeks. The next moment she broke into a cry. Jai did not know what to do. She cried even more. 'It's okay…' he said finally walking towards her and keeping his hand on her shoulder. 'Thank to god that you are not hurt…' Bani broke into heart wrenching sob.
'Come on Dixit you are a brave girl…' he said lifting her face towards him. As she lifted her face his gaze fell on her neck. The left side of her neck looked bruised. Jai swore under his breath. He kicked the man with his feet again.

Masi who had been keeping tab on Jai walked upstairs after few minutes she walked to the balcony. She opened the door and gasped in horror. 'God! What's all this?'
Jai turned his attention from Bani to Masi. 'Masi … good that you have come handle the situation discreetly.' He did not want to attract attention from the other guest and create chaos on this auspicious day. 'What happened?' Masi wanted to know.
Jai gave her a brief update. Masi left Bani and Jai and the intruder on the floor and went straight to Anil shourie. The situation was taken care of immediately. Jai and Anil shouries sons untied the guy. Jai took the duppatta away from him and helped them tie him with a rope. They took the guy through the back door to the police not drawing any unwanted attention from the rest of the people. Bani were seated in Roma's room Masi and Kiran sat with her soothing her fears Jai knocked and walked in.
'Beta kya hua?' Masi asked.
'Everything is under control.' He handed her duppatta Masi put the duppatta on Bani's shoulder.
Bani lifted her face towards him from her mothers shoulder. 'Thank you..' she whispered.
He nodded.
Kiran studied the man before her. She liked him. She admired him for handling the situation neatly. 'Thank you.' she repeated after Bani.
Masi turned her attention to Kiran. 'I want to ask you a favor..'
'Ji?'
Jai caught Masi's hand. 'Aren't you coming Masi?'
'Yes.. I am coming but I need to do something before that?'
'What?' Jai knew her intentions. She was going to make every one embarrassed with her favor. God! What should be done?
'Be quiet Jai…' Masi shoved him aside.
Bani looked at them amused.
'Ji tell me…'
'Nothing… she is confused….' Jai didn't know what else to say.
Kiran smiled 'please Kamini ji tell me…'
Masi's face widened to a smile. 'I want you to let your daughter speak with my son for few minutes…'
Bani's mouth dropped opened.
'Sorry.. I mean I want you to grand my son permission to speak with your daughter alone..' Masi corrected her mistake.
Kiran did not know what to make of it? Jai looked embarrassed. Bani looked confused. She did want to speak to him but..
Masi caught kiran's hand and ushered her out. 'I promise your daughter will be safe with him'.

Masi closed the door after them talking nine to the dozen to Kiran.

Jai looked lost for words. Bani got up from the bed and looked at him. Silence fell between them.
Jai broke the silence. "I am sorry for that…'
Bani nodded. Silence fell again between them finally Bani cleared her throat. 'What happened to the intruder?'
A smile appeared at his lips. 'We took him to the party…' he said looking at her tear stained face.
Bani's mouth curved into a smile.

'Why did you not turn up for the job?' the question was sudden.
'You wanted an experienced person.. I was not….. I did not want to trouble you…'
'You wanted the job Dixit you asked me to give you a chance….'
She shook her head. 'You gave me the job out of pity I did not want pity from you….'
Did he offer her job out of Pity? He did not have answer for that. Later he did want to see her in the office. Every time it rained cats and dogs she came to his mind. He had missed her. And there was something about her that he liked. Her innocence. Finding good in people.
'Did you find any other job?' he asked after a moment.
'No.. I am looking for one…'
'Would you accept a job if I offer one?' he asked studying her face.
Would she? Won't that be complicated? Will they be able to keep an employee and employers relationship? She was getting attracted to this man. What will happen if she falls head over heels in love with him? Isn't she half way to the route… but how can she turn it down?
'Dixit…. I am waiting…' he said pretending impatience.
'I er.. am sorry …'
'Well then I guess we don't have much to discuss' he said and opened the door.
Bani you have offended him her inner self warned. He did so much for you he saved you from a goon and you mercilessly turned his offer of a job. She felt terrible.

'Jai Walia….' She called him when he was half way out of the room.
'There's a reason for me to not accept your offer. Don't get me wrong. I am most thankful to you for saving me from that goon… I am sorry. Don't misunderstand me…'
Jai turned away from the door. 'I had like to know the reason..'
'No…. that I can't tell you it's too personnel.' How can she tell him the truth? Bani shuddered at the thought.
'I am not going out of here until you tell me why you are rejecting my offer?' he sat on the bed facing her.
Bani shook her head. Her face flushed she turned her face from him.
Jai more or less knew the reason at the look on her face. His face cracked into a smile.
He got up and walked towards her turning her face towards him he said, 'Let us stop beating around the bush Dixit. My offer is for marriage. I want to marry you….'
Bani's eyes popped out and her mouth dropped opened. She hadn't expected that.
He closed her mouth with his hand and smiled. 'You left my building but you never left from my mind. I strongly feel that I am falling for you. There I have said it.' He said shoving her away from him.

Bani stood speechless. Her heart beat rising fast. She felt her feet wouldn't support her for long she sat down clutching her dupatta. Jai looked at her for few seconds and opened the door. Bani saw him leave. She scrambled to her feet. She did not know what to do she felt she had been in a beautiful dream a while ago.
To Bani's horror thunder struck shaking the building followed by rain. She opened the door and ran into the arms of the man she was falling for..
Jai steadied her chuckling. 'I knew you would be out of the room in no time.'
Bani smiled shyly.
The lightning struck followed by the thunder. Bani held on to him tightly.
'When should I expect the answer from you Dixit?' he asked lifting her face towards him.
Bani smiled.
And jai understood the meaning of the smile. He held her protectively to him. Not wanting to let her go ever……….
