At Seventeen – Pt 2
Bani opened the doors of almari and looked at the bottom where a pile of gifts and letters lay unopened. She picked up few from the pile and sat on her bed and stared at them for a few moments and then picking up one of the letter she carefully opened it. She read the words and a her lips curved into a smile.(since never wrote any love letters so gonna use songs)
Haseena Likhoon, Meherbaan Likhoon, Ya Dilruba Likhoon
Hairaan Hoon Ki Aap Ko Is Khat Mein Kya Likhoon
Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padh Kar
Ke Tum Naaraaz Na Hona
Ke Tum Meri Zindagi Ho
Ke Tum Meri Bandagi Ho
Tujhe Maein Chand Kehta Tha, Magar Usme Bhi Daag Hai
Tujhe Suraj Maein Kehta Tha, Magar Usme Bhi Aag Hai
Tujhe Itna Hi Kehta Hoon
Ki Mujhko Tumse Pyar Hai
Tumse Pyar Hai, Tumse Pyar Hai
Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padh Kar ...
Tujhe Ganga Maein Samjhoon Ga
Tujhe Jamuna Maein Samjhoon Ga
Tu Dil Ke Paas Hai Itni
Tujhe Apna Maein Samjhoon Ga
Agar Mar Jaoon Rooh Bhatke Gi
Tere Intezaar Mein, Intezaar Mein, Intezaar Mein
Yeh Mera Prem Patra Padh Kar ...
Each of the letters contained romantic songs and she giggled as she read each of them.
Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye Ho
Arre Aise Aaye Ho Tum
Jo Ghulgaya Hai Saason Mein
Woh Geet Laye Ho Tum
Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye Ho
Arre Aise Aaye Ho Tum
Jo Ghulgaya Hai Saason Mein
Woh Geet Laye Ho Tum
O Tum Hi Kahon Tum Hi Kahon
Dil Jo Aise Gaye Koi Kyon Na Gungunaye
Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye Ho
Arre Aise Aaye Ho Tum
Jo Ghulgaya Hai Saason Mein
Woh Geet Laye Ho Tum
Ab Tere Dil Mein Hum Aagaye (ARMAAN)
To To To ...
Tere Dil Mein Rahenge
To To To ...
Tujhe Apna Kahenge
Jhootha Aaa ...
Kasam Ki Kasam Hum Tere Hain Hum
Baat Meri Maan Jhoothe Nahin Hum (arzoo)
ye naina ye kaajal ye zulfein ye aanchal - 2
kuubasuurat si ho tum gazal
kabhi dil ho kabhi dhadakan kabhi shola kabhi shabanam
tum hi ho tum meri hamadam (dil se mile dil)
Dil deewana bin sajna ke
Maane na
Dil deewana bin sajna ke
Maane na
Ye pagla hai samjhaane se
Samjhe na
Ye pagla hai samjhaane se
Samjhe na (maine pyaar kiya)
Next she opened the gifts and found he had sent her cds, books, perfumes, soft toys etc. Kiran had sat listening to her daughter giggling away and not able to contain herself anymore she shouted, "Bani why are you laughing so much? Mujhe bhi baitayee na itni haasi kyun aati hai."
Bani picked up the open letters and gifts and plonked them on her mother's bed. Kiran looked at opened pile and grinned, "So finally you opened them, why the change of heart Bani?"
"Kuch nahi, Jai kei saath lunch pe gayi thi." Kiran looked at her daughter's radiant face and then picked up couple of letters and looked at them. Putting them down she said, "why don't you invite Jai and masi for dinner tomorrow night." Bani stopped day dreaming and looked at her mother confused, "why do you want them to come for dinner?"
Kiran looked lovingly at her and patted the space near her. As Bani sat down, Kiran took her hands and said, "Mujhe meri beti ki mangi paaki karni hai."
Jai and masi arrived promptly at 7 PM. Bani had just set the table and wheeled her mother into the living room. A beaming Nishikant showed the guest into the room. Jai looking dapper in a khakis and black polo handed a bouquet of flowers to Kiran. Bani bent and touched masi's feet and looked shyly at Jai. Jai winked at Bani and commented, "You look beautiful Bani."
Bani blushed and took flowers from her mother and mumbled, "I'll put this in a vase," and walked away. Kiran asked Jai to come and sit near her and as they all sat talking, Bani looked at herself in the mirror hanging on the wall. She stared at her image, the pink sleeveless salwar, the jhumkas hanging daintily from her ears, large khol layered eyes and the pink hush on her cheeks not from rouge but from the warm feeling that had enveloped her.
Going back to the kitchen she picked up a tray with juice and snacks she had prepared and carried it back to the room. Placing it on table she handed out the glasses and set the snacks on the table. Seeing Bani hovering, Kiran smiled at her, "Bani why don't you sit down for now." Pointing at the empty space on the sofa next to Jai and said, "Come, sit there next to Jai." Turning beetroot red, Bani sat down gingerly in the corner of the sofa and looked anywhere but at Jai. After a while Bani became aware of Jai shifting a little closer towards her and casually extending his arm on top of the sofa. She felt as if she was going to pass out as her pulse zoomed out of control.
Jai sensing her heightened discomfort, softly put his hand on hers and whispered, "Relax Bani." Pulling her hand away from his she gave him a timid smile.
Kiran signed Nishikant silently to go and get shagun as she wanted to get this over and done with so she could start planning the engagement and wedding with masi. As Jai and Bani looked on masi happily accepted shagun and went and hugged Jai and Bani. Kiran laughed happily while Nishikant had tears in his eyes as he gazed at his daughter…the daughter who had been more like a son he never had. Well now he was going to lose his daughter but gaining son and asked God to bless his two dearest children now. Through out the dinner and afterwards Kiran and masi discussed everything, not bothering to ask Jai or Bani their wishes. In fact Jai got bored and asked Kiran if it was ok for him to take Bani out for a while. Waving her hand, she shooed them off telling them not to come back too quickly.
Jai took Bani's hand walked up to his car and held the side door open.
Before getting inside, Bani asked, "Where are we going Jai?"
"Since your mother wants us to take our time, I thought we could go to the beach and walk." Jai sat down and turned the ignition on and turned to her, "Is that ok with you? I guess I am going to have to learn to ask what you want to do."
"Beach is fine. By the way are you ok with what mum and maasi are planning? Knowing my mum I won't be allowed to have a say in it. She is going to make sure I have the big traditional wedding she always dreamed about."
"I think my masi and your mother make a pair, masi had wanted me to get married for so long now, and she too will go overboard. I don't mind as long as I don't have to ride a horse or invite the whole world." Jai put the car in gear and drove off towards his favorite beach. Parking the car Jai stepped out and took his shoes and socks off. Rolling up his trousers he arched his brows as he looked at Bani standing in her heels, "Are going to walk in those?" Before Bani could take her sandals off, Jai stooped down and undid the straps on her heels and commanded, "Step out now." Kicking off the heels she walked down on to sand still warm from the heat of the day. There were very few people about, most of them just strolling along the shore. They too strolled along the edge, letting the waves roll over their feet. After a while Jai guided her towards some boulders springing out on the beach now.
Pulling her down beside him, Jai leaned back against the rock and looked at her, "Bani close your eyes."
She didn't oblige but instead asked, "why Jai?"
"Just do it, you'll see why," sounding a little exasperated.
Bani closed her eyes and felt Jai picking up her left hand and she felt him slide a ring on the third finger, she opened her eyes and looked at the ring nestling on the finger. Tilting her chin up he asked, "Do you like it?"
Gazing at the pink and gold diamond platinum ring, liking the unusual filigree design holding the small round diamonds she whispered softly, "It's beautiful and it fits perfectly. How did you manage that? Getting the ring size right?"
"Just asked your mother for one of your rings," Jai told her matter-of-factly.
"And when did you do that?" She looked at him suspiciously, getting a funny feeling that Jai and his mother had been colluding behind her back.
Not at all perturbed by her questioning he just grinned, "When I went to see your mother last week and told her what I planned to do and she encouraged me whole heartedly. I love your mother, she is a gem." She gazed at him teary eyed and instead of being annoyed at him, she melted at his heartwarming words and wrapped her arms around his neck, "I am so glad you love my mum." Pulling away from him, she pouted, "I should really be angry at you and my mum for plotting behind my back."
Rolling his eyes, he feigned annoyance, "Are you not happy with the way things turned out?"
"That's not the point…the point is you didn't think of coming to see me first."
Jai couldn't stop him self and laughed out loud, "Seeing that someone was completely ignoring my attempts of pacifying her, is now telling me I should have come running to her first."
Bani attempted to punch him, but instead found her hand twisted gently behind her whilst Jai's other hand wrapped around her tightly, his eyes staring intensely at her and watched as his lips descended on hers….
Honton se chhoo lo tum
Mera geet amar kar do
Ban jaao meet mere
Meri preet amar kar do
Honton se chhoo lo tum
Mera geet amar kar do
Na umr ki seema ho
Na janm ka ho bandhan
Jab pyaar kare koi
To dekhe keval mann
Nayi reet chalaakar tum
Yeh reet amar kar do
Aakaash ka soonapan
Mere tanha mann mein
Paayal chhankaati tum
Aa jaao jeevan mein
Saansein dekar apni
Sangeet amar kar do
Sangeet amar kar do
Mera geet amar kar do
Jag ne chheena mujhse
Mujhe jo bhi laga pyaara
Sab jeeta kiye mujhse
Main har dam hi haara
Tum haarke dil apna
Meri jeet amar kar do
Honton se chhoo lo tum
Mera geet amar kar do
