Chapter 118
Suddenly Anjali remembered the nurse at the hospital calling Rishab a hero. This must have been what she meant.
"Yeah" Jai replied. "It has to be but it's not a very good shot. I'm sure we'll get a better view in a few minutes."
The video continued focusing on the Westminster hero running back into the building and when he was out of sight, the camera panned the scene until it made its way to the fire, which was quickly getting out of control. Sirens could be heard in the background getting closer as the rescue workers got closer to the scene.
"Carl, I've got to tell you, this is unbelievable. Where is this man now?"
"No one knows for sure," Carl said nervously. "He was last seen going into the building about ten minutes ago."
"This is unbelievable" Anjali commented. 'Boy am I glad I didn't see this when it aired last week. I would have been worried to death. No wonder Rishab knew without a doubt his building was completely destroyed.' thank god she didn't see it...but now she knows.
"It sure is" Jai agreed. His eyes were glued to the television waiting for another glimpse of his brother.
"Over here! Over here!" The reporter ran towards the voice with the camera following him as quickly as possible.
"I see it!" He pointed. The camera focused on what was happening and there he was, the Westminster hero carrying yet another victim out. He could barely be seen walking towards the exit with another person. This time it was a young woman in her early twenties and she appeared to be in pretty rough shape. Just as the cameras got a glimpse of him, the stairwell erupted into flames.
'Rishab, is that really you?' Anjali thought to herself, knowing full well it was. The full impact was finally hitting her. Rishab was Jais' long lost brother, Ronit Walia.finally this anju is really smart...unlike someđ JK
The man was having a difficult time seeing through the smoke and he was coughing almost continuously. He shaded his eyes looking for the stairs and when he finally saw them he saw there were flames shooting up. The rescue workers were at the bottom of the stairwell unwilling to venture up. He fought the panic he was feeling when he realized his exit was blocked and tried to think quickly. "This is only the third floor" he said to himself.
"I can't get to the stairs!" He shouted. "I need to lower her out a front window!" He barely saw the firemen salute in acknowledgement.
Anjali's mind was racing. This was too good to be true. She looked over her shoulder towards the kitchen and realized that the man on the other side of the door was only moments away from meeting his brother! Her heart filled with joy when she realized that not only would Jais' search for his brother be over, but his worst fears would be laid to rest. Ronit did have a good reason for not coming home; he didn't know where home was. thank god...but why do i sense something horrible coming...
"Jai!" Anjali said excitedly. "Jai, I have somethingâŚ"
"Hold on a second Anju" Jai said. "I want to see this. I think this is the scene where we'll get a really good look at Ronit." listen jai..for god sake...for once listen to her right away...
Anjali nodded and turned her attention back to the television.
A window finally opened on the third floor of the building. Firemen raced to place a ladder against the burning structure and one of them carefully climbed to the top where the man held out the unconscious woman for him to take. Slowly he began his decent with the victim over his shoulder as a fearful crowd of onlookers watched. The man gratefully watched the fireman climb down the ladder and was relieved he'd gotten her out in time. that was like a Macho fire man...anam you sure you don't know any firemen at your place? i mean you have to admit that firemen are sexyđ like some cops!đ
"In case any viewers have just joined us, we are live in Santa Monica watching the daring rescues of residents of this complex that erupted into flames following the earthquake measuring 7.6 that tore through parts of Southern California approximately 45 minutes agoâŚ"
With the woman safely on the ground, the young man opened the window a little wider as he prepared to descend the ladder.
Jai held the remote in front of the TV and hit the freeze frame button. "There he is! That's Ronit. I'm sure of it!" jeez Jai you will give Bani a heart attack if she found this kid's side of you
Anjali chuckled as she stared at the still frame on her television. Covered in dirt, his clothes ripped to shreds was the man she loved, as big as life. "I don't believe this!" Anjali smiled. "This is too good to be true."she is laughing at this state? why?
"Anjali, why are you laughing?" Jai questioned, not knowing what to make of Anjali's reaction. i feel the same...
Just as Jai made his comment to Anjali the kitchen door opened and Rishab appeared with a pitcher of freshly made lemonade and four glasses wearing the signature Walia smile, though until this moment no one ever thought about it. Bani was the only one who even turned her head when she heard the door open. Her jaw nearly dropped to the floor when she saw "Rishab" walking towards them. kya perfect timing hai...kya re let her explain first...
"I think I understand Anjali's reaction" Bani said in shock, tugging at Jais' shirt.
Anjali and Jai turned as well, as Rishab approached. He winked at Anjali and then turned his attention to Bani and gave her a friendly smile. "Hello" he said amicably. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Rishab Singhania." Jai was the last of the three faces he saw and when he looked him in the eyes, the strangest sensation of dj vu came over him. wow...that is good...a deja vu...btw i had a deja vu too earlier...SSGH reminds you of anything?
Jai, having jumped up from the couch with Bani still attached to his shirt sleeve when he saw his brother walk into the room, stood there completely dumbstruck for a moment. It was almost as if the man on the television screen had jumped out of the tube and landed in front of him. It was his brother, Ronit. hmm interesting...
"Do I know you?" Rishab asked as he eyed Jai curiously. "You look so familiar to me." For some inexplicable reason Rishab became lightheaded and he had the strangest vision playing in his mind. He placed the tray of drinks on the coffee table and immediately began to massage his temples wondering what was happening. wow bechara
"Is he kidding?" Jai asked, though Ronit barely heard him. All he could hear at the moment was a memory playing in his mind.Jai be nice he doesn't remember...
**Flashback**
The two boys lay on their stomachs, behind the tall grass in the sand dune. They held their chins in their palms with their elbows grounded neatly in the cool sand while their legs swung freely from the knees through the night air. "I'm never getting married" the older boy said scrunching up his face as he watched in awe the young couple completely entwined in each other's arms. He turned towards the younger boy and shook his head decidedly. "Kissing and whatever it is they're doing is gross."haha...that is rishab? haha oh god...look at him now...they got the cooties syntome...đ
The younger boy craned his neck for a better view and once he did, the look on his face was similar. "Me too" he replied in complete agreement. "Why would anyone want to do that?" The two boys stared at each other for a moment and suddenly fell into a fit of laughter. The young couple they'd been spying on heard their mirth and suddenly broke apart.lol this is too funny...đđđ
"Who's there?" An angry man's voice could be heard in the distance.
"Uh oh!" The older boy said. "We'd better get out of here. Run Jai! Run!" The two boys jumped up from their concealed position in the dunes and scampered off as quickly as they could, their laughter filling the cool night air. Uh oh! they are caught..this too funnyđ
**End Flashback**
"Jai?" Ronit asked, not knowing why he even asked it.
Anjali threw her arms around Rishab's neck and hugged him tightly, completely overjoyed that he remembered something from his past. This was too good to be true. woo hoo!!! that is good...but Anjali explained first...
Jai laughed scornfully. "Yeah, it's Jai" he said. "I suppose I should be touched that you remember me. After all, what's it been Ronit, 14, 15 years? I'm glad to see you looking so well. I guess you've done well living out here in California. The years has treated you well." Jai be nice...give him a break hun...
"Ronit? Why did he call me Ronit?" Rishab asked Anjali. Rishab suddenly had another memory, of waking up in the hospital earlier that very day. wow...bechara...kitni aur flashbacks?
**Flashback**
"Sir, can you hear me? You're in the hospital. There was an earthquake. Do you remember?"
Rishab's movements became more defined and it was clear he was regaining consciousness. "Can you tell us your name?"
"Mmm" Rishab grunted. "My name. Ronit."
"Did you say Ronit? Is your name Ronit?"
**End Flashback**
"Oh I forgot" Jai replied sarcastically. "You're Rishab now. I guess you were too embarrassed to go through life with the name ma and papa chose for you." oooh this is not good...
"Anjali, what is he talking about?" Rishab asked in confusion. He was even more rattled by Anjali's apparent delight and her friend's anger. He turned to Jai wanting an answer. "What are you talking about?" He didn't know what was happening to him and didn't appreciate the tone this man was using with him right now. this is def. not good...Anjali open your mouth
Bani carefully watched everyone's reactions and knew something wasn't right with this situation. She understood Jais' anger but considering how pleased Anjali appeared by all of this and the confusion that was evident on Rishab's face, she decided that Jai needed to calm down before he said or did something he'd regretted.Thank god Bani to be the sensible one...stop him Bani
"Jai, why don't you let Rishab explain himself" Bani said soothingly.
"Yeah Rishab" Jai said angrily. "Why don't you explain yourself? Tell me exactly why you left? Why you chose to hurt our family the way you did? Do you have any idea what we went through for months after you left?" oh god this admi is uff!!!
Anjali saw Jais' anger building and though she was expecting it, decided things needed to be brought out in the open quickly. "All right Jai" Anjali said while prying the remote control from Jais' death grip and shutting off the TV. She then walked back to Rishab's side. "Calm down, jaan. You're not going to get anywhere flying off the handle like this." ok this is not looking good...
"Calm down?" Jai said in disbelief. "You want me to calm down? You, of all people? I haven't even begun, Anju. What's with you anyway? Wait. Just how long have you known about this guy being Ronit anyway? When were you planning on telling me? And you!" Jai turned his attention towards Rishab. "What is this? Some sort of sick joke, dating my best friend?" Not good at all...Anam i'm gonna kill you!!!
"Jai, please" Bani pleaded, rubbing her hand up and down Jais' arm, hoping to hold him back. Jai took a deep breath, but said nothing, nor did he continue his move towards Rishab. He just glared at Rishab and Anjali wondering when one of them would explain what kind of game they were playing. ok ok this is not good at all...its getting worse...
Anjali took the opportunity to step in between Jai and Rishab. She gave Rishab a reassuring look and then turned to face her friend with a look of determination. "Jai Walia" Anjali scolded, "Don't you dare say anything else that you're going to be very sorry for. Right now, you need to clam down and until and unless you clam down, don't you dare talk to me." Anjali said as they walked away going into her room slamming the door shut. wow Anjali way to go...that will teach him for a while
"AnjuâŚlisten" Jai said frustrated. Running his hand through his hair, he knew he was in it for sure especially when it came to Anjali. She rarely ever got pissed off and when she did, it only meant trouble for the ones involved. He knew he had to talk to her and pacify her. He hadn't meant to make Anjali mad but he just didn't understand why she was defending Ronit. lol now you know Jai...don't mess with her!!!
To be continuedâŚ
