Chapter 7A

Jai wiped the tears from Bani's eyes and took her in his embrace again, kissing the top of her head. They stayed like that for a while, but then Jai held her at the arms length and spoke, "I think Bani, we should head home since we have a lot of work to do tomorrow."

kya yaar jai, ek pappi on her matha and then let's head home 😕 chalo koi baath nahin, i won't get greedy, i know sabar ka phal meetha hot hain

Jai and Bani held on to each other and they were so close that their forehead were almost touching and it seemed like they were about to kiss. And then suddenly Jai's cell started ringing jolting both of them out of their closeness. Bani jerked away from Jai's embrace quickly while Jai left to attend the call.

now u know why i hate phones 😡

Yeh main kya karne jaa rahi thi? Mujhe kya ho raha tha? What was I about to do? What were we about to do? I surely can't think or do anything like that. What will he think? And plus I certainly can't do it because… Bani is distracted from her train of thoughts by a ball at her feet. Bani picks up the ball and watches 2 kids to approach her.

oy bani teri problem kya hain yaar, i wish the ball had hit her on the head instead, akal theekane aa jaati

"Auntie, yeh humara ball hai. Kya app please humen wapis de sakti hain? We didn't mean to disturb you or uncle," the little girl apologizes.

nahin bache tumne disturb nahin kiya, woh kambakht phone hain na 😡

Bani smiles and answers, "It's ok beta. Appka koi dosh nahi hai toh sorry kehne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai."

Girl: "Par auntie humse ghalti ho gayi thi aur mummy papa kehte hain ke agar ghalti ho jaye toh maafi mangni bhi bohut zaroori hai."

Bani chuckles at the girl's innocence: "Beta lekin agar unjanne main ghalti ho jaye toh maafi ki koi zaroorat nahi hai."

Girl looks confused at first but quickly recovers: "Oh ok. Thank you Auntie! App bohat achi ho. Uncle bohat lucky hain appko appne saath pa ke. I think your kids are lucky to have you. Bye auntie!"

Bani was stunned by this little girl and before Bani could correct her, the girl ran away with her ball. Bani was left standing there thinking about the comment the girl made. But before she could ponder more on this thought or the earlier one, she was brought back to reality by a cough behind her.

vicks ki goli loh, khich khich door karo 😆

She turned around and saw Jai standing there with his hand in his pockets. It seemed like that he heard her and the girl talking. Did he hear that little girl and me talking? thought Bani. I wonder he must me thinking, thought Bani.

don't think too much bani, it is injurious to ur health and ours

Her thoughts were soon answered because Jai began to speak.

Jai: "Bani, that was Masi calling to ask about our whereabouts. I told her we were at the beach and will be home soon."
When he heard no response, he continued, "I think we should head home soon since we have to wake up with fresh mind tomorrow. After all, we have start working on the campaign in so little time."

fresh mind, yeah sure 😛

Still Jai heard no response out of Bani and he was becoming nervous. Why isn't Bani speaking? Did I do something? I hope our little interaction that was to occur between us back there, is not bothering her. What was back there? What was I about to do? I think I should speak to Bani about it so she doesn't feel uncomfortable, thought Jai. Just as he was about to speak, Bani spoke startling Jai.

yeh ek doosre ko bolne nahin dete hain kya

Bani: "Yes Jai I think we should head back. It is getting a bit cold out here. I think our minds need long rest before we start our journey together because from here on it will be really long journey and where it may lead no one knows. But I do know is that we have to do our best. So tomorrow morning we have to get up early and start working since we have so little time and so much to do."

do rest sweety, and don't think too much, let nature take its course

As soon as Bani entered her house, she was surprised by Puja. "Surprise!!!!" yelled Puja from behind the sun room.

"Puja!!!" Bani replied with the same enthusiasm.

They two friends ran and hugged like they never seen each other in ages, even though it was only last week they had met at Puja's home and they had just talked to each other on the phone the other night. After a while they broke apart and sat on the couch that was right there. By this time Rano had joined them in the room.

Bani: "Pooj, what are you doing here? When did you come?"

Puja: "Arre B, yeh bhi koi sawal hai puchneka? 'what are you doing here?' seriously B main yahan kyon aati hoon, tumse milne aur kisse. As for when, yaar main toh tumhare jaane ke todi he dere baad ayi hoon. Main aarehi thi aur tum jaa rahi thi."

Bani chuckled lightly: "Ok baba, I know what you are saying but what I meant was that why did you leave your important work to come and see me? I mean you had a really important project to handle then why did you leave and come here, tell me."

yes yes do tell, i am all ears

Puja a little frustrated with Bani says: "Oh God, shurru ho gai na? ab tum mera peecha nahi chodo gi. Rano, this girl has gone mad you know. She's always after me, even when I want to come and see you guys. I fear the guy she is going to marry. Tauba tauba."

na re don't say that, at times she can be a sweetheart

Bani knew what was coming next because this was their usual routine: whenever Bani tried to play Puja's mom, Puja would start with her sarcastic lecture and the subject always was on how Bani's future husband would suffer from Bani's so called worrying disease. Every time Puja would pick on her and Bani being Bani would just listen to her quietly and protest here and there. Bani counted the minutes in her mind for Puja to start her lecture and waited what she will say this time about her future husband's future with her. As funny as the lecture was or as sarcastic, it always had Bani wondering if what Puja says really is true. If indeed her husband would suffer. Puja knew this and every time Bani brought it up in the past about this, Puja had always said, "Don't worry Bani, main toh mazaak kar rahi thi. But even if it was true, I'm sure that your future husband would love you to death to care about these things. In fact, he would love every little thing of yours that he would take all these worrying tantrums as an entertainment in his part. He would love to see his wife being too Amma." This always calmed Bani down had her laughing along with Puja.

of course he will love her like no man ever did

Getting back to present, before Puja could go on with her lecture any further, Bani's mom came into the room to announce the dinner she prepared for Puja. While the rest of the family ate along with Puja, Bani decided to head to her room to prepare the room and set up a bed for Puja. Bani knows that if Puja is here then another bed is needed and the room needs to be prepare because knowing Puja the days and nights ahead are going to be endless for the 3 girls.

Rano and Puja bid their goodnights to Kiran and Nashikant and headed towards Bani's room. Puja deposited her things in her room; yes Puja was given her own room since she was considered a part of Bani's family and vice-versa. Even though Puja was given her own room, she always slept in Bani's room or Bani in hers and sometimes Rano joined them. And today was one of those days.

Puja entered in her PJ's along with Rano and slumped on the bed with her head on Bani's lap. Rano deposited her head on Puja's stomach. Bani was leaning her back to the bed reading one of her bedtime books, looked down on her lap to find Puja there and Rano on her stomach. Bani placed her book back on the night stand and took off her reading glasses and started to pat Puja's head.

this all reminded me of my pyjama parties and sleepovers i used to have 😭

Puja: "So meri jaan, kaisi hain aap? I mean how are you feeling? No wait forget that, tell me how your day was?"

Bani in a sarcastic tone: "It was wonderful. I saw rainbows in the sky. My office had unicorns, ponies, and all the things nice…."

As Bani went on, Puja rolled her eyes and exchanged it with Rano, who was doing the same. Of course they knew that Bani was joking but this sarcastic was the first form both of them.

Puja interrupted Bani: "B I wasn't talking about your day in office. I was talking about your day with Jai. Since you were suppose to give him your answer after the dinner, so tell me how was it? The dinner, I mean."

dinner koh maro goli ....... answer please

Bani smiled genuinely and she was soon taken back to her day. She replayed the whole day to Puja and Rano, who listened carefully, and making comments here and there and interrupting Bani with stupid questions to annoy her. Finally after what seems like eternity. Puja sat up aburptly, sending Rano crashing on the floor.

oh oh

Puja: "Sorry Rano." She helped her and continued, "So Bani aftre that close proximity, how does it make you feel being this close to Jai?"

Bani was zapped with Jai's question. She didn't know what to say. She was taken a back quite surprisingly.

Bani reluctantly: ….

why do u do this...😡...the stupid kiss on the head...Bani being amma...and Jai being a duffer...

anyways...jaldi se jaldi move them on the right path...and u better know what that it...😉😆...I need results...

okay now serious...it was really good...but why is Bani so slow and amma like...you should add more spunk to her character...maybe that is what it will take Jai to notice her...I dont know...😕😉😉
