PART 32

The sun rises the following morning and its rays creep in through the bedroom window. Jai and Bani lie sleeping next to each other. Bani faces away from Jai, cradled in his arms, his head resting on her hair.

It hits 8am and the bedside alarm clock rings loudly. Jai wakes up with a start and silences it before Bani is disturbed. He turns back towards his wife, propping himself up on his elbow to begin his favourite pastime – watching her sleep.

Thinking back to the night before he smiles to himself and pushes her hair back from her face. All of his anger and frustration had dissipated, replaced with an intense and fiery passion which he had seen matched in Bani's eyes.

How could he have been so blind as to not realise how much she loved him! All she had done was question his belief in her and he had understood everything he needed to. All she had done was show how hurt she was in one simple sentence and he had immediately regretted every harsh word and every wayward thought.

He had never felt this way before – so completely and hopelessly in love. Bani was the only person in the world who could affect him so much with one single glance.

She stirred and turned over, slowly opening her eyes to see Jai staring down at her. She couldn't have wished for a better sight first thing in the morning!

Jai: Morning Mrs Walia!

Bani smiles softly: Morning Mr Walia!

Jai: Mein abhi aap ke hi baare mein soch raha tha…

Bani: Sach…? Kya soch rahe the?

Jai: Nahi… kuch nahin… tum naraaz ho jaogi…

Bani: Boliye na Jai… kya soch rahe the?

Jai: Bataa doon…?

Bani: Bataado na… please?

She flutters her eyelashes at him putting on her innocent face!!

Jai: Main soch raha tha… tum jitni bholi dikhti ho…. utni bholi ho nahin!!

Bani, indignantly: Kya matlab?!!

Jai: Bano mat Bani!! Aisa main nahin keh raha, mere peeth par tumhaare nakhoon ke nishaan keh rahe hai!!

She blushes fiercely and attempts to get out of bed. He pulls her back down, leaning over her, his lips inches from hers.

Jai whispers: Kya hua Bani? Kal raat ko to itni sharam nahin aa rahi thi tumhe…

Bani whispers: Please Jai… stop it…!

Jai: And last night it was "please Jai… don't stop"….

He laughs as her cheeks inflame a deeper red. He leans towards her teasing the corner of her mouth with a light kiss before tilting his head and entwining his lips with hers in a longer, deeper kiss.

He moves away catching her lower lip between both of his. Her eyes remain closed, her breathing laboured. They slowly flicker open and meet Jai's deep brown pools of intensity staring back at her.

Jai, hoarsely: Aaj kam se chhuti karloon…? Please…?

Bani grins and whispers: Is ki koi zaroorat nahin hai Mr Walia. Ab uthiye mujhe taiyyar hone dijiye!!

She pushes him away and wrapping the blanket around her, runs towards the bathroom. Turning back she sees the mock disappointment on his face.

She smiles cheekily at him and goes inside, pointedly leaving the door wide open! A few seconds later he sees her hand drop the blanket outside. He grins to himself and gets up to follow her inside, closing the door behind him…

At Chopra (*Cobra*) House Roshni is on the telephone with Jatin:

Roshni: To vo project file tumne Mr Singh ko dedi? Any comments?

Jatin: Many thode amendments karli hai, vo project file me hi note kardiye hai.

Roshni: That's fine. Aur batao… kaise ho? Naye ghar ka interior decoration ho chuka? Bani tumhari madat karnewali thi na?

Jatin: Aayi thi vo yahan kal. Sab bade kaam to ho gaye hai, ab bas chhoti chhoti cheeze khareedna baki hai!

Roshni: To phir intezaar kis baat ka hai? Unhe shopping le chalo, vo tumhari help kardegi! Vaise bhi, bechari ke paas aur karne ke liye kya hai? Jaise maine tumhe bataaya tha, Jai usse kuch karne hi nahin deta! Na doston se milne deta hai, na beheno se!

Jatin, angrily: Aur vo sirf usse protect karti rehti hai! Jai usse itna bura bartaav karta hai aur vo kuch kehti bhi nahin?!

Roshni: Bahut bholi hai vo. Aur phir vo aur kar bhi kya sakti hai?! Uska is sheher me aur hai hi kaun? Vo Mumbai me kisi aur ko jaanti nahin, kiska sahaara le sakti hai vo?!

Jatin: MERA!! Ab main yaha aa chuka hoon, aur main Bani ko us Jai Walia ke zulm se bachaa kar hi rahoonga!

Roshni: Maloom padta hai tum Bani se kitna pyar karte ho Jatin! Kaash uske shaadi se pehele tum yahaan aa jaate, to phir usse yeh sab sehena hi nahin padta!! Maine tumse Edinburgh main hi kaha tha, voh tumhe dekh ke kitni khush hui thi! Aur phir party main tumhe dekh ke chehra bilkul khil gaya tha uska! I'm sure she feels for you exactly what you feel for her!!

Jatin, hesitantly: …. Really?

Roshni: Of course Jatin! Main bhi aurat hoon, I can recognise the signs you know! She is just scared of Jai that's all! Agar voh Jai ko chhod ke chali gayi to voh usse aur uske beheno ke saath kya karega, us baat darti hai! Issi liye unhone tumse jhoot bola party ke raat!

Jatin, determinedly: Ab usse darne ki zaroorat nahin hai – I'm here for her….

Roshni puts the phone down and smiles to herself (evilly flicking her stupid fringe!!). A fool in love was so easy to wind up!! All she needed was Jatin to keep believing everything she said about Jai and Bani's relationship, and he would do the rest of her work for her! Jai Walia was going to regret the day he had left Roshni Chopra for this simpering girl……
