Indivaraa Part 1
Dr Jai Walia starred out through the small window down at the planet they were approaching. It was amazing, so much like earth that he had left only three days ago.
"Its just amazing…isn't it?' a soft voice behind him whispered.
Jai turned his head and smiled at his assistant Rano Dixit, "Yes…Rano. I kind of don't feel homesick anymore."
Rano nodded, "yes…me too. Plus bonus is…didi is down there. It will be great to see her after two years."
Jai sat back in his seat and stretched out his legs. "Two years? Long time…what is she doing here for two years Rano?"
Rano couldn't help admiring Jai's lean physique, displayed perfectly by the fitting suit he was wearing, especially made for space travel. "Working on some secret project…she did not tell me anything…not even its name."
Jai looked out of the window again, "Well now we will find out…I am sure there is nothing much that everyone on the station doesn't know. I wonder why Commander Kapoor asked me to come here. He was very vague…something about observing some species…"
"Species…you mean the Pandorians…the blue people?" Rano's eyes gleamed with excitement. "I have heard lots of rumours about the blue people who can fly…"
Jai rolled his eyes, "People are stupid…fly my foot…they just swing from tree to tree just like in those old Tarzan movies."
Rano pouted, "Trust you to spoil the rumour…I think it would be amazing to fly in the air."
The overhead communication link beeped and then a voice announced, "Please review the landing procedures carefully. We should be landing at the base station in approximately 30 minutes."
Rano strapped herself in her seat and moaned as she put on the air mask. "I hate this bit…I feel as if I am going to suffocate and die."
Jai grinned at her. "You are not supposed put on the mask until we enter the planet's atmosphere you know."
Rano closed her eyes and took a deep breath before answering, "Easy for you to say…I like to do it early so I don't have a panic attack at the last moment."
Jai pulled out a small bottle and waved it at her, "What you need is a soothers?"
Rano pulled off her mask and glared at him, "Those are banned, you know that Dr Walia. If they catch you with those…they will lock you up in rehab."
Jai shrugged, "Stupid people, there is nothing wrong with soothers…they are not drugs…just a pill to chill out. See I have been in complete control through the flight."
Rano gave him a disgusted look and pulled on her mask. Jai threw his head back and laughed loudly.

The landing craft came to a grinding halt at the designated docking platform. Jai pulled off his and Rano's air mask and stood up, "Come on…let's get out onto firm ground now." Rano stood up slowly, still feeling sick in her stomach. She picked up her small case and followed Jai down the ramp and out on to the platform. They stared at the military personnel scurrying around. Military vehicles and small crafts littered the ground beyond the station.
"Wow…I have never seen any place so full of the war machines." Jai said as he whistled.
"It's like a war zone than a regular base." Rano quipped as she glanced at the perimeter bounded by high walls.
"Dr Walia sir!" a crisp voice called out. Jai stepped forward, "I am Dr Walia."
"Follow me sir. Commander Kapoor is awaiting your presence."
Rano had to almost run to keep up with Jai and the soldier. "What's the rush guys? We are not going to run off anywhere?' Rano grumbled.
Jai turned and laughed, "Just think Rano…you will have a tight ass by the time you return to earth…it's a great workout...running!"
Rano poked her tongue out at him, "You are a sicko…Jai Walia."
They were shown into a large room with monitor covered walls. In the center was a large glass table covered with papers and gadgets. A man with hair graying at temple and wearing army uniform looked up. He smiled, "Jai…dear boy…good to see you."
Jai was enveloped in a bear hug as he came near. Commander Kapoor looked at Rano, "Aha…you must be Ms Dixit…Bani's little sister."
Rano nodded and then scanned the room, "Where is my sister? Is she here?" she asked.
The smile on Commander Kapoor face did not go away. "She is not here. You will get a chance to see her…later. I will get someone to show your cabin and let you get some food and rest."
Rano did not say anything. She knew the commander didn't want her hanging around them. She went off with one of the female cadet.
"Come Jai…lets go somewhere private." The commander led Jai into a small room at the side. It was bare except for couple chair and table. "Sit." He commanded Jai.
Perched on the edge of the table he looked thoughtfully at Jai. "Do you know anything about the mission you are assigned to?" he asked.
Jai shook his head, "They said nothing, just something about observing the life on Pandora."
The smile from commander's face vanished and he looked grave. "Actually it is something more serious. Dr Bani Dixit has been missing for six months now. We have had teams scour the terrain but no luck. Infact we have lost a few good men out there…as you must have heard the natives are not friendly."
Jai's eyes grew to a slit, "Dr Dixit has been missing…and you did not inform her family?" he asked.
"What do we tell them? We don't know if she is alive or dead." Commander replied back.
"For God sake sir…Rano is here…she is going to know or are you going to lie to her."
"No…I am going to tell her the truth. The reason she is here…is to help us get Bani back."
"And how can Rano find her sister when your men have failed?" Jai asked sarcastically.
"You will use her as bait…your mission Jai is to connect with savages out there and rescue Bani." Commander said with authority.
"I will do whatever you command me to do…but I will not endanger Rano."
Commander Kapoor brought the discussion to end, "Lets leave the discussion for now…go get some rest and then I will take you to meet project director. It is important for you know what Bani was involved in."
Jai stood up and gave a salute before walking out the room.

An hour nap and hot food pepped up his energy level and Jai was feeling upbeat as he was escorted to see the project leader. The cadet opened the door and Jai stepped in to a large room with walls covered with screen. He gawked open mouthed as he took in scenes…it was real…it wasn't just a rumour…there were blue skinned people on the planet with tails. He did not register the clicking sounds of shoes on the floor as they walked towards him.
"Well…Well…Well…I was wondering which idiot they had found to come to this place and make peace with the savages out there."
Jai shook his head and then smirked, "Well if ain't the renegade scientist. How did they make you a project leader with your record of barbaric annihilations of species?"
Ajit Dev glared at the man he hated with open animosity…the one man who had the nerve to make life difficult for him when ever they came close to one another. "Could say the same for you…only you usually end up botching up your assignments. Can never do one thing right can you Jai Walia?"
Jai kept his cool, "Makes life a bit more interesting don't you think so? I mean at least I don't torture and maim innocent creatures."
Ajit felt his stomach curled into a hard knot. If he had a knife in his hand, he would have aimed it straight for Jai's heart. The door opened and commander Kapoor walked in with Rano. "Ah…you are here already. Ajit…meet Rano Dixit. She is a star in the medical field back home."
Ajit lost the angry look quickly and turned on a charming face, "Welcome to Pandora Dr Dixit. I have read some of your work…and well your sister also couldn't stop talking about you."
Rano smiled and extended her hand, "Nice to meet you Mr Dev. Where is my sister?" she asked.
Ajit replied quickly his voice as smooth as silk, "Oh…she is out at one of our remote base…doing field work."
Rano face registered disappointment. "I was looking forward to seeing her. May be I can talk to her when she calls in next time."
"Of course dear…" Commander Kapoor replied. "Now can we just update them on the prjoject Ajit."
"Of course commander, everything is set up in the briefing room. This way please."
Jai listened intently at what was said, the work Bani had been involved in. The video they were showing of the planet surface was mind boggling, the huge Amazon type forests, imposing mountains, lakes and rivers and even more, the exotic life that inhabited the place. If earth had wiped out most of the wildlife species, then this planet was teeming with it and most interesting those blue people that were seen swinging from the trees or flying on strange creatures were actually protecting the creatures. An hour later when the lights came on again, Jai looked at the commander, "I don't understand…this people are not aggressive or savages. Why is the base like a fortress? What else is out there that is a danger to us?"
Ajit laughed loudly and his lips curled into a sneer, "You think those aliens are not savages…they are friendly and are happy we are here. They might look like cute with their tails and innocent faces, but they are anything but friendly…believe me they can kill so swiftly, that you won't even know you are dying."
"Ajit!" Commander Kapoor interjected, "Could we keep this meeting civilized, after all Jai is going to try and make contact with those people."
Ajit mumbled something incoherently. Rano spoke up, "Mr Dev, if I may…I would like to study any reports you have on these people. It would be fascinating to discover if their body structures have any close resemblance to humans.
"Of course Dr Dixit!" Ajit answered with charm, "I shall give you access to our on-lone database."
"Well while you are at it…get a station set up for Jai to study the terrain and get some idea of what he faces out there." Commander ordered. "Come Jai Rano…let me take you around the base and introduce you to some of my key staff…they are ordered to co-operate with you."
Ajit's eyes turned to slit as he watched the receding backs of Commander, Jai and Rano. Well others might cooperate with Jai…but he had no intention…let him figure it out. And if he gets lost like Bani…then even better…at least there will no one else nosing into his projects anymore.
An hour later in Commander Kapoor's office…
"Jai…I hope you understand this mission is dangerous…the Pandorians have been very effective in guarding their territory. I want Bani back alive. She had been a vital link in communicating with the natives. I need her to achieve a peaceful solution…necessary if we want to have a permanent base here."
Jai shook Commander hand, "I promise sir…to bring her back without any bloodshed."
"Thanks Jai."
Ajit looked in the incubator at the foot long fetus curled up, its blue skin glowing. "Sleep my baby…you must get strong and healthy. You have an important mission to accomplish. Yes…baby…you will be the first one of my child…the super Indivara…together we will conquer the Pandora."
The fetus eyes fluttered and then closed again, it stretched and yawned, already sharp teeth protruded from the jaw in its mouth.
