Bani smiled while jai stood solemnly as masi did the aarati...Krishna was standing besides masi, throwing rose petals over them...jumping up and down as if a spring had been attached to her feet, she had told this news to everyone in the school, right from the peon to the children to the teachers... that Bani Miss was going to be her mamma much to bani's embarrassment but then they would be knowing it today or tomorrow, Mrs. Rao had given her long stare before congratulating her...they wanted it to be very simple...they got married in a traditional way in a temple with her sister and mother accompanied by pushkar, they both did the kanyadaan...masi, Krishna and tony were there from his side... after that they had driven straight to the court to register their wedding... Bani was clad in a deep red sari with a few jewels, yet she looked ethereal...while jai wore a simple off-white kurta-pajama looking handsome...

"Aao beta..." masi smiled, bani kicked the kalash full of rice and came inside...kiran had also come to escort bani...

"Mamma..." Krishna came running towards bani... landing on her...bani ruffled her hair...

"Chalo main aapko ghar dikhati hoon..." Krishna pulled her hand, bani went with her...

"Aap dono baithiye main abhi aati hoon..." masi got up...going inside...

"Jai beta..." kiran turned to look at jai...

"Ji Mrs. Dixit..." jai said feeling a bit awkward...

"Tum mujhe ma keh sakte ho, bani ki tarah..." kiran smiled affectionately...

"Ji..." jai sat unsteadily, at his age slipping into new relationships was so difficult, he realized...

"Bani ne shayaad sab kuch bataya hoga tumhe apne bare main..." kiran asked...

"Ji..."

"Bohot kuch jhela hain usne, main maanti hoon uski bhi nadani thi...par galti kisiki bhi ko, par bhugatna toh bani ko hi pada hain...aur aaj itne saalon ke baad main usse sach main khush dekh rahin hoon..."

"Beta, uska dhyaan rakhna...bas itna ki anurodh hain..." kiran folded her hands...

"Arre...aap...yeh kya kar rahin hain...main wadaa karta hoon, bani ko hamesha khush rakhne ki koshish karoonga...aaj pehle baar mujhe ehsaas hua hain ki Krishna ki zindagi main bani ki kya ehemiyat hain...aap nishchint rahiye..." jai held her folded hands, ensuring her...

"Lijiye samdhanji...mu mitha kijiye..." masi served them with sweets...

"Nahin bas ab main chalti hoon...bohot der hogayi hain..." kiran said...

"Main bulake laata hoon bani ko..." jai got up to leave...

"Aap bani ki chinta bilkul mat kijiye, meri beti ki tarah hi hain..." masi said...

"Yeh mera kamra hain..." Krishna said

"Arre wah...bohot sundar hain..." bani said, she was actually in awe of every corner her eyes saw...it was beautiful and tastefully done... they came to a room which was locked...

"Aur yeh pata nahin..." Krishna said...

"Krishu dekho naani jaa rahin hain...chalo jao unke paas..." came jai's voice from behind, Krishna hurried downstairs...bani stood unsurely; looking at jai...she sensed he wanted to say something...

"Yeh sonali aur mera kamra tha...after she went I didn't feel like staying here...issiliye I shifted...mera...I mean humara kamra uss taraf hain...maine tony se keh diya hain, woh tumhara samaan rakh dega..." jai said...bani simply nodded her head...

"Ma jaa rahin hain...let's go down..." he said, bani quietly followed him... she liked his honesty and concern...she felt nice; she wouldn't be sharing the same room where he lived with his wife previously... and he called her mother ma...

Bani walked towards her mother hugging her...

"I will miss you maa..." bani said controlling her tears...

"Main bhi..." kiran hastily left her...she bent down to kiss Krishna...

"Naani aapko bohot yaad karegi..." kiran said...

"Main bhi..." Krishna said leaning over jai's legs...

"Bani aur main aapko chod denge chaliye..." jai said...

"Nahin beta..."

"Nahin please...aap mana nahin karengi... "jai insisted...

"Main bhi aaongi..." Krishna shouted...

"Haan haan... chalo..."

After dropping kiran at pia's home they were returning back after complying to Krishna's wish of having an ice-cream, kiran would be leaving to visit some religious places in about a day, Chaardham Yatra... the drive was silent with only Krishna doing all the talking... soon they reached Walia Mansion...Krishna got down running towards the house, jai followed her suit...bani started walking behind them, not knowing how to thank him for his sweet gesture...

"T...thanks..." bani said...jai turned around not able to hear her properly...

"Thank you Mr. Walia..." bani said looking at him...

"For what..."

"For giving me Krishna and for being so nice to ma...she already adores you so much..."

"Ma is sweet, reminds me of my own mother... I think you are a gift to Krishna, and she seems to love you more than me..." jai said with a smile...bani just stood... unmoving, enamored by his words...

"You don't plan to spend the rest of the evening here...do you??" jai asked seeing her rooted to her spot... bani walked inside... along with him......

Jai was surprised to find bani so much at ease; she helped Tony with preparing dinner, serving it, making Krishna eat...and he couldn't help but notice how graceful she looked in sari, dressed up, a deviation from her simple self usually clad in cotton salwar-kameez sans anything else, she was different, sonali had a striking personality whereas bani looked demure but yet very attractive if people chose to give her a serious glance, they would unearth the beauty hidden inside her...it still seemed surreal that he had married her just out of her compulsion, but he realized he wasn't regretful of his impulsive thought...

"Chalo Krishna... sleep time..." bani said calling Krishna who was immersed in watching the animated movie of Hanuman...

"Mujhe hanuman dekhna hain..." Krishna whined...

"Kal dekhenge hanuman, chalo..." bani picked her up, tickling her...Krishna giggled...

"Mamma aapko hanuman ki story sunayegi... cahlo..." bani and Krishna left...

"Ab jaake ghar lag rahaan hain...sach main..." masi couldn't help but admire bani...jai retired to his room, thinking of reading a file... ...

A few hours later, making Krishna sleep...bani uncertainly entered jai's room...to her amusement she found jai leaning against the headboard, reading a file which had slipped down, his specks had skid down to the tip of his nose, his head was drooping...bani slowly walked up to him, very slowly taking the file, keeping it aside, she pulled out his glasses cautiously, not to disturb him... but invariably jai squinted his eyes, flapping his eye-lids he was shocked to find bani so close to him...

"Woh...aap...theek se so jaiye..." bani said...moving back...

"Huh!!!" jai sat upright...looking at her nervous face...

"Krishu so gayi..." he asked not understanding what to speak to her...

"Haan..." she replied...jai saw her twitching the end of her pallu...in her palms...

"Why are you so scared of me??" he asked leaning back...bani gawked at him for a full second...

"I am not scared of you..." she replied...

"Then why are you so nervous..."

"I...it's just we don't know each other well so am I just..."

"Relax, I won't eat you up Bani Dixit..." he said pulling the pillow, preparing to sleep...

"Bani Walia..." bani said almost inaudibly...

"Oh!! Yes!!! Good night...Mrs. Bani Jai Walia..." he pressed the words and switched off the lamp...bani blushed as it was the first time she was addressed like that, she liked the sound of it...she had never imagined that she would be able to marry someone, have a family of her own after what happened...but today it was so over-whelming to stay in a family, a daughter to someone, a mother to a beautiful child, maybe a wife and someday she will have her own child, hers and...the thought shook her up...was it possible...will she be able to love her husband...or will jai be able to accept her in his life... with those thoughts bani went to sleep, crouching on the far end of the bed, it was the first night after their wedding...traditionally it would have been something else but...time was all both of them needed...bani closed her eyes to wake up to an amber morning sparkling her new life... ...
