He was surprised, shocked to see her again, cuddled in a corner of the deck; hugging the rugged bag to herself…Jai approached bani who was sitting in a corner looking at nothing particularly…

"What are you doing here?" jai asked standing in front of her, tall and broad…

"I don't know you to talk with you…" bani snapped back…she was desperately trying to hide her nervousness and the fear of being caught with her mocking anger; actually she wanted to thank him for helping her.

"I had helped you in the morning so you know me…now tell me why you are not in your room…" jai asked again, wondering why she was here when everybody must be resting in their allotted rooms…

"I…I am just sitting…" bani mumbled…

"That I can see…from whose side you are…must be the groom's relative…" jai said as he knew everybody from Lolita's side…bani gulped down, she could make out that the ship was going for a marriage…but whose side she was, since he was presuming her to be from the groom's side he also must be from the groom's side, so she thought of telling him the opposite as he wouldn't come to know of her…

"No…I am from the bride's side…" she said confidently…jai arched his brow…

"Bride's side…" jai said surprised…

"Yes…yes…I am her cousin sister…" bani uttered…jai stood before with his hands on his hips, examining her cryptically…

"Lolita's cousin sister's name is Kajol…" jai said crossing his arms against his chest…

Bani's shoulders slumped; she clutched her bag even more tightly…

Lolita paced her bedchamber impatiently, her heart pounding against her ribcage… she had caught a glimpse of Girish while he was boarding the ship, she had felt his eyes on her, Oh!! How eager was she to meet him, but she knew that she wasn't allowed, but there was no harm in just a meeting…she was excited at the prospect of the meeting…

"Kajol…" she called out her cousin who was for the past few hours sitting by the small window mourning something…

"Kajol…what happened…" Lolita asked…

"How did you love that Kharoos…" kajol shot back…

"Who???" Lolita asked surprised…

"That jaidev…" kajol stuck out her tongue…Lolita laughed softly…

"Why???" feeling embarrassed to tell her what her real intentions were kajol decided to keep the secret to herself…

"Just like that…" kajol shrugged…

"Listen, I…I…wanted to meet him…" Lolita said fidgeting with the pallu of her sari…

"Meet who…jai…"

"Dhat…no…I mean…Gi…Girish…"

"Haaa…" kajol sealed her open mouth with her palm…

"Kajol…" Lolita exclaimed blushing…

"So, what do you want me to do…?"

"Tell him, to come to the deck after everybody sleeps…" Lolita whispered into her ears…

"Okay…it will be so much fun…" kajol jumped at once…

Bani looked at the open sky, to witness that the sun had already travelled overhead, it was noon…

"I…I…just didn't know what to do…in a hurry I climbed this ship…" bani confessed about her plight, how she had to escape in order to save herself from getting married to a man who was of her father's age…sympathy took over jai…

"I…I am sorry…" jai mumbled an apology…

"Why are you sorry…you shouldn't be the one to be sorry…"

"You can stay, I will not tell anybody…" jai assured…

"But people might come to know…" bani looked at him apprehensive

"Hmm…you are right, we still have to travel two days…" jai thought for a second and then held her hand and lead her downstairs…

Shakuntala was getting ready for her afternoon nap when she heard a faint knock…

"Thakuma…" she heard jai's voice…

"It's open, come dear…" she replied back…

"Had your lunch jai…" she asked arranging the pillows…

"No…" jai said pulling bani behind him…

"Jai, how many times I have told you, not to skip meals…" she scolded…

"I didn't feel like eating…"

"Acha what happened…"

"Thakuma…I have a problem…" he said…shakuntala turned around to see a young girl standing beside jai…

"Who is this girl…???" she questioned…

"Tumara naam ta ki…? (What is your name?)" Shakuntala asked sweetly, patting the seat beside her, indicating bani to come and sit near her…

"Ba…bani…" bani said as she gingerly sat on the edge…

"Kaito shundor mai… (Such a pretty girl)" she ran her fingers through her hair…

"Don't worry…you will be fine here" she reaffirmed her…

"Jai…go and get something for bani and yourself too…poor child must be hungry…" jai dumbly nodded his head, looking into bani's worrisome eyes, he pressed his eyelids signaling that she was save…bani managed to give him a feeble smile, this silent communication didn't go unnoticed by shakuntala who beamed at them…

"Go…" she said again…embarrassed jai ran out of the room…

The sun was past its zenith now and a haze was dancing over the waters in the warmth of the afternoon and the approaching evening…

Bani smiled, sitting on the wooden floor, with her legs crossed, Shakuntala had wanted her to share the bed with her which was large enough but she had refused politely, holding the silver cutlery tightly, careful not to let it fall, she sipped the tea as thakuma, which shakuntala insisted bani also addressed her like that was telling tales of her younger days…and how naughty jai was during his childhood…

Bani gazed at jai who was laughing heartily, he was laughing, but his eyes weren't, they had an immovable expression in them, composed but alert, as if someone were giving him directions to an unknown destination, there was something which was hidden into those steel grey eyes…

Just then their sweet conversation was broken by the slamming of the the door…

"Thakuma…" a sweet melody flowed in…bani noticed a girl of her age standing at the doorway, bani bowed her head as she could feel the girl's curious eyes on her…

"Who is she???" bani heard her exaggerated exclamation…

Jai quickly rose to close the door…

"Lolita…she is…she is jai's friend…" shakuntala said, bani's head shot up, jai turned to give thakuma a dumfounded expression…

"Friend!!!!!" Lolita's frail voice shrieked…bani bowed her head again, holding the silver cup even more tightly…

"Who is this friend of yours whom I don't know…?" Lolita stood with the hands on her hips, staring accusingly at jai, jai was by now completely pissed off by her rude behavior…

"Why, I can't have friends…she is my junior in college, she needed help…"

"And you helped her…" Lolita finished the statement…

"Yes, you have a problem…" jai snapped back sitting near shakuntala…bani could feel the undercurrents of tension in the oppressed air…

"No, of course not…" Lolita replied caustically, turning to face bani…

"What's your name???" Lolita asked acidly…

"Bani…" jai grumbled…

"I was asking her…" Lolita sniggered…bani looked up to see the two fighting like enemies…

"You are really impossible jai…" Lolita stamped her foot and walked out…

wow i m liking it

Awesome update! So Lolita is jealous-- if you ask me, she has no right with what she's making Jai go through without a care. She obviously doesn't like Bani. And I"m assuming Shakuntala likes JB's pairing. Wonder if she will instigate anything between them. Wonder how the remaining of their journey will go. Please continue soon. 😃
