Read both parts.. very lovely story as usual.. I think it is first time I m reading a JB FF where Nishikant Dixit is boss and Uday Walia is employee.. waiting to see how this progress including relation of Jai and Bani.

Post Natal depression occurs after delivery where the mother slips into depression and is anxiety-prone regarding the child, it's a psychological problem. To be honest I couldn't think of anything else so I just wrote that!!! It is not fatal though but it can get fatal where the patient might tend to suicide which happened in kiran's case.

Part -3 : Childhood? ?

Uday drove back to the cottage cautiously?they were many police check-posts?after the insurgency in Darjeeling which just concluded, the security had become tight? a diverse ethnic population gave rise to socio-economic tensions, and the demand for the creation of the separate states of Gorkhaland and Kamtapur along ethnic lines. The issues came to a head after a 40-day strike called by the Gorkha National Liberation Front, during which violence gripped the city, causing the state government to call in the Indian Army to restore order?

It was all over in the newspapers?though Darjeeling was now returning to its peaceful state, the burning issue of a separate state still lingered, supported by some non-violent political parties?

Uday entered the cottage to find jai helping bani paint colors?it has only been a week but they seem to have bonded big time?specially jai who had taken a special liking for the cute bani, he was a child without a mother, probably bani would fill in the void which Krishna had left, he needed someone and bani's friendship would stabilize him, jai couldn't always express but uday knew he missed his mother terribly?at nights he saw him sitting by window, gazing into the open sky, talking to his mother, telling her about all the day's happening?if only he could bring Krishna back, not for himself, but for the sake of their son and his lost childhood?

"Hello?" uday greeted the children cheerfully?

"Hello dad?" jai hugged him?uday took out a bag of freshly made cookies straight from the bakery and offered them?bani took one instantly?

"Uncle?I made house?" bani showed him the drawing book?

"Wow?whose house it is??" he asked?

"Ummm?my and jai?" bani said finishing off the cookie?uday chuckled?

"Where is bani?" nishikant asked?kumud flipped the magazine pages?

"Kumud, I am asking you something?" nishikant said unknotting his tie?

"Must be somewhere?how do I know?" she said immersed in her magazine?nishikant looked at her, resigned, today he realized what a grievous mistake he had committed?it was too late to undo it now?

"I know kumud, it is difficult for you, but you can at least try?" nishikant sat beside her? kumud kept the magazine aside?

"I will try?" she sounded genuine?he gave her a smile and headed out?

"Gopi masi?" he called out?the old lady came promptly?

"Where is bani??" he asked?

"She is with jai baba?playing?" gopi answered?

"Today I will have dinner with her?" nishikant said and walked towards his study?gopi looked at his retreating figure?sometimes she felt pity for the man?times were testing but still he was moving ahead holding onto the thin rope of optimism? she still remembered the day when his mother had literally threatened him, almost emotionally blackmailed him into marrying again?she had witnessed it all, the breakdown of a husband mourning his dead wife and a helpless father who couldn't give his daughter a loving mother?

"Nishi?just think?" his mother, RamaDevi coaxed?

"No maa?" nishikant retarded back?

"Why are you doing this son?you have no right to destroy bani's childhood and future? a girl needs a mother?"

"I can't love anybody except kiran?nobody can take her place?"

"You can never become bani's mother?"

"I will take care of her?you are there?gopi masi is there"

"When I will be gone?" nishikant remained silent?

"Nishikant, as I mother I want to see you happy, settled in life with you family?am I asking for more, as a mother I can't ask this much?" ramadevi cried out?

"Okay?but for me bani is my first priority?" nishikant went off?

He was still a handsome man, though a bit aged?and considering the amass of wealth and proverbial property he owned, it wasn't difficult for him to get a young second wife. And soon he was sitting in the mandap, before the fire, it reminded him of kiran's pyre? he was married again?

For the first year of their marriage, Ramadevi took bani with her along with Gopi masi?she was adamant that his son should move on in life rather than clinging to the dead memories?she very well knew nishikant would hesitate to accept kumud, being a simple and straight forward man he couldn't bring himself to do injustice to kiran or do justice to kumud?

But kumud was an intelligent lady, she used her charm and looks to lure him, being a man he couldn't resist himself long enough and the comfort which kumud offered him?soon kumud was expecting his child?

Bani sat on the steps with pouted lips?she saw jai wearing his bag, ready to go to school?

"Bani beta?chalo dood pee lo?" gopi extended a glass of milk?she had been sent along with Ramadevi to her in-laws place after marriage, she spent her entire life looking after her, remaining a spinster?she had missed out being married, the blissful experience of motherhood?but god had compensated it by giving her bani?she loved her from the moment she held her in her arms, cradling her to sleep? ?

Bani turned her face away?

"Beta?"

"Mujhe bhi scoool jana hain?jai ke saath?" she demanded?stomping her foot?

"Beta, tu choti hain, badi hojayegi toh jaana?"

"Nahin?abhi jaana hain?"

Jai, who never left for school without saying goodbye to her, came hopping towards her house?

"Bye bani?" he waved at her?

"Jaii?mujhe bhi scool jaana hain?" she ran towards him?

"Bani, tu abhi choti hain?thodi si badi hojayegi toh tub hi mere saath papa ki gaadi main school jaana?"

"Nahin?abhi?"

"Teacher daatenge?hum shaam ko khelenge na?" he convinced her?

"Pinky promishh?" bani said extending her little palm?

"Pinky promise?" jai said promising her?

"Bani is a good girl na?" jai said?bani nodded her head vigorously?

"Drink milk?it makes you strong?" gopi looked amused as bani gulped down the glassful of milk in one go?

"Bye jaii?" bani waved?jai waved back as he sat on his father's scooter?

Kumud had given birth to a baby boy?they named them Sahil?bani was never particularly close to kumud, for her she hardly existed as it was always gopi masi and now it was jai?but she fell in love with sahil, often watching him while kumud didn't see her?

"Jai?sahil is so tiny...tiny hands, tiny legs, tiny eyes?" bani said amusingly as jai completed his homework?

"I am a sister you know?big sister?papa said?" bani enacted spreading her arms in the air?while jai just smiled?bani and her endearing ways?

"I will call him tiny?tiny sahil?" she giggled?

Kumud finished feeding sahil, his eyes were drooping?she rocked his to sleep?he soon fell asleep?she put him in the cradle carefully?she was too young to become a mother, married to a man more than ten years senior to her, who still pined for his lost wife, he had willingly slept with her, he was emotionally weak and vulnerable which she had taken advantage of but still? Being born in a not so well to do family, the luxury this new life offered was wonderful, even though she had to compromise on her desires she was in turn getting lot more, beyond her expectations? she looked at sahil?she was so glad it was a boy, the only heir to this widespread empire?but bani?she could be a thorn in her rosy plan?nishikant greatly loved bani and he could do anything for her?kumud smiled wickedly? when the right time would come she will remove the thorn? ?

Unaware of all these, jai and bani were too engrossed in living their childhood merrily?
Soon, bani joined jai to school, seated between jai and uday on the scooter, waving at gopi? nishikant had purchased a car for her but she had stubbornly convinced her father that she would only go with jai or else she would not go? nishikant gave in but had planned to give uday a car, as the annual returns of this year were very good, more than they had projected?

Hmm toh that pregnant lady in last part was Bani's step mother.. I m not liking her already. Bani is sooooooooo cute and Jai is soo sweet.
