Chapter 14

Bani pushed her suitcase in, the room was large indeed….double the size of the room she had, if not more, four poster bed, LCD TV mounted on the wall, a full sofa set, rocking chair, Bani did not see any cupboards, so she opened another door, it was a bathroom, with latest gadgets and fittings, large enough to be a bedroom…..Bani came out, there was another door, Bani peeped inside…it was a walk in closet, filled with his clothes, various types, Bani stood with her hands on waist, hey bhagwan idhar toh hum kho jayenge, never mind, max to max 7 days so let my suitcase be here as it is….why bother taking it out and putting it back….

Coming out of the closet, Bani stood looking around, how will it be to share a room with the man she hardly new…who is her husband and excepting for holding hands for couple of occasions, she can hardly feel to be his wife….

As usual he came late, Bani was waiting, she hated the idea of a single person eating alone in the kitchen, she hated her meals alone in the house after Pia left….though often she was asked to join the Patils specially during holidays but Bani avoided it as much as possible, felt as intruder during their family time, she felt….as she heard the car entering, Bani got up went towards the kitchen, putting down Riya on the kitchen table, Bani heated his food, put on the tawa to make the roti…Jai Walia walked it, sat on the stool, watching Riya sleeping, lightly he touched her hair and cheeks as she slept, Riya kicked his hand on being disturbed but Jai enjoyed that, he took his face, Riya kicked his nose this time…..

Ouch lagta hai……he giggled, then picked up Riya, hugged her to himself, Riya went into comfortable sleep on his broad chest, Bani put the food in front of him….

Dijiye isko, Bani wanted to take Riya on his arms….

As Jai ate with one hand, Bani sat down on the other end, reading her book…..

You needn't have to do this regularly…..

Bani thanked dadi silently….

Ji dadi, hamara Mr Madan ko yaad hai, unka 40^th anniversary tha, I mean I had to attend, after all Mr Madan has been with the company for such a long time……

Abhi cash dekhte hai, day to day expenses of office, etc etc…..

Anniversary tha…mujhse milne kehena, ashirvaad karungi toh Pia ko lekar nehi gaya tha…..

Bahut achhi bachi hai, humlog rakh lete, bechari baithi hai tere liye jag kar, yeh sab party o me Pia ko lekar jaya karo, dheere dheere jan pahchan hone lagengi aur usko is ghar me adjust hone me asani hogi…..

Ji Dadi….He replied, Bani bit her lips…..

Who said Dadi was conservative and old fashioned….Bani thought as she rose to clear the table….

Chhor de beti, mai kar lungi, mujhe needh nehi a rahi hai, kuch kam karungi toh shayad ajaye….tumlog sone jao….

Ayo Pia, sone chalte hai, Jai Walia got out of the room, Bani followed him in slow steps….

The room looked different in the night, the dcor being mainly black and white, with low lightening it gave an eeiree effect, Jai put down Riya on the bed, the sheets of which were pristine white, and picked up his night suit which was layed out….as Bani waited not knowing what to do next, Jai entered the bathroom…..Bani quickly dashed to the closet to change….

As Jai came out he found Bani lying on the bed, Jai went at the other side to pickup a pillow, gave another glance at Bani and Riya, while Riya was sleeping on her side, Bani was covered from head to toe with the comforter except for her long hair spread across the pillow…..Jai watched, suddenly thought how will it be to cover his face with her hair, run his fingers through the silky tresses…..immediately he shook himself and went to the couch, as he lay down he mocked at himself, in his own bedroom, with his own wife but sleeping separately….in his adult life he did not remember sharing a room with an adult female and sleeping away from each other….

Sharing a room with a man does give an uneasy feeling specially when the man happens to be your husband, albeit in paper only….half of the night Bani could not sleep, literally jumping at the smallest sounds, but Jai proved to be a silent sleeper, as the dawn broke Bani got up and went out of the room with Riya, towards their old bedroom to get Riya ready for breakfast and maybe if possible one hour's sleep as she hardly slept a wink last night…..in the gallery she came across Jigyasa, toselled walking up and down the gallery, she did hear about Jigyasa's sleeplessness but today she came face to face with her….

Mere bete ko toh kha gayi, abh mere bhai ke pichhe pari hai…she glared at Bani…..

O so this is the reason of Jigyasa's unacceptance of Bani, she is afraid to lose her brother….inspite of being cursed early in the morning, Bani heart cried out for a grieving mother, for how long god I have to bear this …her ran towards her room crossing Dadi who was already up, praying and blessing the house…..

As Jai Walia finished his breakfast with the family, his dadi looked at him…..

Munna tu ne mujhe kuch promise kiya tha….us promise ka keya huwa…..

Ji mujhe kuch aur din time lagega dadi, zameen toh maine chun liya lekin mujhe jana parega to negotiate the final rate…..

And what is stopping you from going….Dadi asked frowning at the grandson, suddenly both of them looked very similar…..

Well Dadi, you know the family has been facing a bit of tough time, our routine got upset and now we are getting back to feet, I will go there with next 15 days….

Munna, I have lost my son, my bahu and my great grandson untimely. I have not stopped working because I feel that if I do something good, my family will gain from it, from the blessing…..

Ji dadi I know….I have already blocked dates for the visit…..

Munna now stop making money, we have enough, this should be your first priority, I am not going to listen to anything, before I leave this place, I want the papers in hand, the project is delayed by 2 months already……

Jai Walia got up, Ok Dadi let me go to office and see when is the earliest I can go, shuffle my dates a bit….

Bahu, Bani heard Dadi calling out, she took a few seconds to realize it is she whom Dadi is addressing, there is no other Bahu then her in this house…..

Munna ke saman bandh dena, aaj sham tak he will leave for the site to finalise the land deal. Time waits for no one, I promised to build a hospital and school and already delayed by two months, why should the needy suffer because of my house problem…..

Bani swallowed and looked at Jai, he was obviously looking mad, his routine being upset and like he too had a strong personality but he could not overrule her, dadi commanded respect, Jai nodded his head slightly to give his assent…Bani gave a weak smile…..

Ji Dadiji bandh dungi….she replied softly…..Jai left towards the exit to leave for office but stopped on his tracks as he heard the same voice saying….

Aur apna bhi bandh lena….tum bhi ja rahe ho Munna ke saath, jab family me a hi gaye ho toh kuch nek kaamo me haath batayo…..

Mai….Bani squeaked, matlab how can I go, I mean Riya has her vaccine…..the first possible excuse Bani gave what came to her mind….

Does she now, no problem, Riya ko chhor jayo, Aditya is here, Billo will take care, Jigyasa too, if she wants to….

Don't you trust us with your child?

No no I mean I have never left Riya alone, I do not know how she will behave….

You don't breastfeed her, so she will be fine….she will miss you no doubt but we will keep her entertained…..

Bani looked desparately at Jai's back, wishing he would turn and over-rule his Dadi…..

Us taraf keya dekh rahi hai, mai abhi zinda hu, head of this family….jab nehi rahungi apne marji ke mafik kar lena…..

Bani bowed her head, thank god this woman does not stay here throughout the year…..
