Chapter 15 B

That night before going to bed although Bani felt rattled by Jai's words but she was having a smile. She had heard her Massi talking to her father's photo

(Nishi today I have made a choice I hope it's the right one. Your daughter is getting married to my nephew I know you would approve the kind of person he is Often I have seen you appreciate the efforts he made. But the only glitch is that he is marrying her for some wrong beliefs of his. But I have full faith in my daughter yes our Bani she is a spirited girl and I think that is what he needs to bring him in line. And you know one more thing this way I get to keep her by my side always. I hope you approve that.)

Bani on hearing this was touched she just hoped things would work out the way Massi thinks. Did she know that her nephew was a tough nut to crack and he is not pleased with anything? But today she has a reason to smile and he is the factor Her Massi is happy and she seemed to have a content look. Hope she can keep it that way.

Next day was normal for Bani she had her classes only till the afternoon. Now the year was winding up and exams were just round the corner. Today she said she would be late as she will be at Rano's house. Jai had come to meet her. But he had to leave just discussing the wedding plans and Massi was like totally lost.

Massi: Why don't you just take Bani along tomorrow instead of me also tagging. I am not that young to go around for your whirl wind shopping. And you wanted the arrangements at the Haveli too done.

Jai: do not get worried I have send the work force there you only just have to give the instructions over the phone.

Massi: And if I am not at home how am I supposed to do all that. Then calling the relatives like you said. That is why I told you wait but as usual you are impatient.

Jai: I don't want you to invite the whole world for this. For that we have got time. I just want close relatives you know the meaning of close.

Massi: Instead of giving me an English tuition make a move and let me get some work done here.

Jai: I thought I would come and help you out and now you are shooing me away.

Massi: Don't get me wrong you are much of a nuisance then help. So the job you have worked out for me will be done now worries.

Jai: Fine I get it you don't want me hovering around you. Just tell Bani to be ready tomorrow morning.

Massi in all the arrangements forgot to tell Bani that evening when she came back Jai would be coming for her in the morning to go shopping.

Next day in the morning when Jai's car came up in the porch.

Bani to herself. Here comes the devil in the morning to spoil the fun.

Massi: Oh no

Bani: What happened Massi? Since yesterday I'm only seeing you over the phone or in a lost world.

Massi: in between this I forgot to tell you that Jai was coming to take you.

Bani: Take me where.

Jai walks in and sees Bani dressed in a very casual wear a spaghetti strap floral top and half pants with matching accessories. Jai to himself. Does this girl realize that it is a crime to tempt someone like this way? But Jai says good morning and takes blessings form Massi. And they begin conversing something which Bani couldn't get a head or tail off.

Bani: Massi I asked you something.

Massi: Munna she was just finishing her breakfast. Would you like to have something?

Jai: Just coffee.

Bani and Jai was now sitting in the car. She had no clue as to what she will be doing the whole morning with him. Massi just send her off like that. And Jai too no explanation where as to they are going and for a change today he is driving.

Jai: Am I such a boring person that you find the scenery much more appealing.

Bani: Eh well this trip is like a surprise for me.

Jai: But I had informed Massi about it.

Bani: Well she forgot and thanks to you.

Jai: Hey just a minute stop accusing me of things which I am not even aware off.

Bani: Well Mr. Walia Massi is just recovering and she has been given the duty to overlook the preparations. She is kind of stressed out and she forgot to mention the trip.

Jai: Fine I get it so you want someone to help Massi out it will be done.

Bani to herself is the guy so dense that he cannot see her frustration she had other plans for the morning. What do they all thing just because she is young they all just take her for granted and think she will fall inline. But her thoughts are disturbed when Jai brings the car to a halt.

He gets down and opens the door for her. She found that a bit strange that she is being waited upon and all. The first stop was a jewelry store. And for the first time Bani got to see what money and power wields. The security guy came and took the car for him. The manager of the store personally attended to them. She was the centre of attraction. He had brought her there to pick up rings. One for the engagement and a wedding band.

Jai: Have a look at these they are all solitaire diamonds in platinum. If you want something else in specific we can request for that too.

Bani was like totally confused as to what was going on.

And Jai was eying impatiently for her to choose.

Jai: I never knew you were so difficult to please.

Bani: If so you shouldn't have brought me just got one yourself.

Not only that I was not even aware that I was coming on a shopping trip. And now I have to choose a ring from the exclusive range with an enormous price tag to it just like that.

Jai: Sweet heart for once just be an angel and pick up the one which you like. These are the best and I can afford the price tag so no worries.

Bani: Tell me about it. And I hope these things are insured too. Because if it gets lost or robbed then I don't even want to think about it.

Jai: Negativity doesn't gel with your profile and once the ring is put on your finger forget getting the ring out of your finger as I will never let that happen.

Finally Jai itself chooses the ring for her and Bani is quite happy as it was one among the two she herself had picked out. But what surprised her most was Jai choose a simple wedding band for both of them. And he had asked them to engrave in it eternally yours Jai in Bani's ring.

Bani had not just come out of that when the next surprise was in store for her. She was taken to some designer boutique and she found the dress had already been chosen all she had to do was dress will be altered to her size.

Bani: This was real fast the dress was already chosen by you. Then why did I have to come my tailor would have given the measurement.

Jai: No I wanted you to see it and if you wanted some alteration in the design or work you could say that. As it is they have some restoring work to do as it has been in the cupboard untouched for so many years.

Bani : It was in a cupboard.

Jai: Sorry I forgot to mention this dress has been handed out from one generation to the other. So every bride that comes into the family would be wearing this. I will show you the matching jewelry also which we will take it out of the locker.

Bani: I have never worn something so heavy and the changes you have already suggested is more than enough.

Jai: You are getting married only once so start being a little more active. It would defiantly elevate my spirit,

Bani: If I elevate your sport anymore you will explode and we cannot have that can we.

Jai: Fine I get it. So tell me what you would like to wear then. It was just that Massi told me it was my mother's choice to see the bahu of her house in this attire when she is welcome into the family.

Bani: I didn't say I wouldn't wear it. Its just that I like to know what is happening rather being showered with on surprise after the other.

Jai: You would be the only girl I have come across who is not liking to spent money shopping that too someone else's.

Bani: When it comes down my money or yours its all the same. After all you are going to be my husband.

Jai was quite taken back by that statement. So from my and you do I sense a change to ours.

Bani: Think what you may. Jai couldn't help smiling

Jai then went a head to pick up the jeweler from the locker. He then drove to his house.

Bani: Why are we here?

Jai: I am not going to have you for lunch. But we cannot take this jewelry and walk about its not safe so I have some to keep it in the house locker and also to check on the renovation work which had started off last month. You could also give in your input after all this is going to be you home in another few more months.

Bani was like he is asking my opinion this ought to be a first one. And she was just standing and admiring the garden.

Jai: Bani are you going to remain there the whole day may be I can give you a quick tour of the house though its in a mess with all the work.

Bani one look at the house and she thinks how does he stay here with all he noise and thing s coming off from here and there.

Jai: I don't live here I have a suite at the hotel presently.

Bani was surprised how he could read her thoughts so clearly.

Jai: You know you have one of the most expressive eyes I have seen.

Just then the contactor comes and he doesn't find anything a miss on seeing Bani there. Jai just finalizes some thing with him. Then he looks at the time and realizes that its past lunch time.

Jai: Bani I think we will go out for lunch. Do you have some place particular in mind.

Bani: Finally I get to pick something.

Jai: Stop trying to be sarcastic like others.

Bani: No I am not. And just looks at him.

Jai: No. Fine you were not being sarcastic now the place to eat.

Bani: No I said I'm not choosing the place.

Jai: Why are you trying to be difficult Bani. And he comes very close to her and he is staring into those brown eyes and makes Bani really unsettled.

Bani: Its not that I don't know any of the hi fi places you like to go and eat.

Jai; Oh Bani. Its not that I always want to go there only I can compromise on something's for my wife so tell me where you want to go.

Bani: For today as you have been taking me around may be the restaurant also I want to be something of your choice. I get to see my husbands taste after all.

Jai: Alright you win what cuisine at least.

Bani: Italian

Jai: Good choice.

They have lunch at one of Jai's hotels and it's a famous Italian joint. Which requires reservations but as usual Jai just has to walk in and things are set up for him.

In another five days they would be leaving for jai's home town. Bani's school shad closed and she had to come to give her exams only. She hadn't even told her best friend Reno that she was getting married. She felt guilty about that but Jai was particular that it was to remain within the family and the only out side people you could say was Tarun and Pushkar not to mention some of the associate Bankers and investors which were deeply involved with eh industry.

Bani felt for the first time her life was out of her control. Jai seemed to have an imaginary power over her. He hardly spoke to her after their outing. But he controlled every step she made. It was her wedding but she had no say in it. The dress the jewelry the people that are invited everything to the feast all was decided by Jai. Every girl dreams of this day. But for any outsider it was definitely a dream wedding though it was in a short span of time Jai had not made any compromises he wanted Bani to have the best of everything.

Today the engagement had taken place and now Bani was wearing the ring. She was just looking at it and sitting on the terrace and when Jai so that lonesome look on her face something stirred in heart. He always wanted to see that smile on her face and which seems to be missing.

Jai: So you are hiding out here.

Bani was startled to see him there and gets up.

Jai: Hey I didn't mean to scare you off .

Bani: Oh I just didn't realize I have been sitting out for so long.

Jai: Its fine every now and then you need a break. Just tell me one thing Bani are you happy.

Bani: Why now does it make a difference.

Jai: Yes of course dammit. It makes a lot of difference I want you to be happy Bani. I want my wife to be happy always and I can do anything for that. The look at that time Bani saw in those cold grey eyes was something she can never forget IT had such a depth and filled with emotion that she was completely lost. She did realize when Jai hugged her kissed her on the forehead and murmured into her ears

Jai: You look like an angel when those eyes of yours twinkle with happiness.

When Jai those words Bani realized how close she was to him. She was in his arms and she felt safe.

Bani: Well for that you have to make me your wife I am still only your fiance.

Jai sees the twinkle in her eyes but somewhere there was an uneasiness he hoped he could wipe that out but with time surely.

Today was the wedding day it took place in the Kul Devi temple in front of the relatives. After that there was "Ana Dhan" for all the villagers and the Brahmins.

Then it was the muhurat for the griha pravesh. They had all the traditional customs. Bani was now exhausted by the days events but then she was brought down again and she was made to sit by the side of Jai as the villagers had some folklore music and dance to perform for the,. Normally Bani would have been excited but today she was tired and she actually didn't even feel like having the food that was being served around and it was not to her taste.

Jai: Bani have something. You haven't had anything much.

Bani: Its too spicy for me

Jai: No problem I will get you the desert.

Bani: Oh please just because I love sweets and you cannot have that much don't make fun.

Jai: Hey I was serious about that.

Bani: Really I got to see.

Jai drove back to the haveli by then Bani was already sleeping away on his shoulder just to make her comfortable the pulled her over. Bani once feeling the warmth only snuggled up more and now she was fast asleep. When the car came to a halt Jai carried Bani over and while asking the servants to open up the door Bani woke up and she was like embarrassed that Jai was carrying her and the servant s were looking on.

Bani: Mr. Walia put me down I have good legs that I can walk with.

Jai: Sorry it's the groom's prerogative to carry the bride over the threshold.

Bani just didn't know what to say to his high handed behavior when she was placed onto the bed.

Jai: Come on now stop sulking it doesn't suit you. And here its just the two of us. Massi and the rest of them moved to the hotel as it would be closer to the airport for them to go tomorrow morning.

Bani: They are going away tomorrow itself.

Jai; they have been here for the past five days. Sorry to say the only face you get to see is mine for a few days till you go to Bombay to give your exams.

Bani: At least be truthful you are not one bit sorry rather you enjoy seeing me flustered.

Jai: I don't have the energy to argue so I'm going to change and I have something for you Jai just goes to use the bathroom and in another fifteen minutes he comes out. Bani has now removed away all those heavy jewelry and she only had the mangalsutra and the ring on. She had unpinned the dupatta and her hair was now fully open. Jai was mesmeric by the sight in front of him. She really looked like an angel.

Jai came out of his revive when he heard the sound of her anklets. He came and stood close to her as Bani was trying to get out one hair pin that was entangled in her hair.

Jai: Now don't vent your anger on that poor hair pin.

Bani: I have been trying to get this out for ages.

Jai: God you are really impatient and Jai removes her hand and he slowly takes it out for her.

Bani: You got it so quick.

Jai: Patience and persistence pays Bani. And I have something for you.

Bani: What

Jai Come with me

Bani is surprised to see the balcony with water fountain on the side there is a tray with desserts laid out and the light is dim. It was truly a romantic setting.

Bani: You never let me forget that one incident.

Jai: You are the first person I have seen relish and eat the dessert. The rest of the woman all run away from it.

Bani: That shows that you were with all the wrong kind of woman just like Massi says.

Jai: So you are the right one.

Bani: Ask Massi she is the one who has those opinions not me.

But as Jai offers her a piece of the rich chocolate cream cake Bani is so intent on the cake that she doesn't realize she is eating it out of his hand and she had a varied varieties to choose from.

Bani: So how did you arrange this.

Jai: Well I am Jai Walia for nothing I have my resources.

Bani: Why do I ask and thank you for the surprise

Jai: Just a thank you for all the trouble.

Bani just then finishes of the cake form his hand and looks up into his eye Bani with a mischievous smile then just tip toes and kisses him on the cheek and is bout to move away from him not so fast you got to try the rest and I like to be thanked this way better and Bani cannot help blush.

Frankly she was not having a clue as to what she was doing. She knew this was her first night but somehow with Jai it was always trying to get better than one another. In this game somehow she felt like Jai was getting an upper hand and she didn't mind that.

Jai got into conversation about things here and there and Bani was trying out the desert. She hadn't noticed how she came so close to practically sitting in his lap and he was caressing the arm that was exposed while they both sat on the couch. Slowly Bani realized her position and was trying to move away but Jai was letting go of her.

Jai: You have the cream still around you mouth

Bani where and Bani was bout to wipe it out with her hand when Jai brings his finger tip to brush it off. And Bani felt this up close with him she couldn't breathe and it was as if she had become a statue. As Jai then led the way to bed to make her his wife in the true sense of the word.

For Bani it was not something she had anticipated. As Jai kissed her for the first time where he carefully explored every line and curve of her mouth. Slowly he had bent his head to the shoulder and grazed his teeth across the sensitive skin at the juncture of her neck. Bani felt only delight his breath sizzled in her ear. There was no need of word for them to communicate their eyes could do all the talking. When Jai lifted her against him and pulled her down he felt this was the woman for him. She was his and she fit him perfectly and to night he was going to acquaint himself with every part of it. He hadn't given her a choice but both of them knew they were destined to be one.

The shrilling ring of the mobile woke Jai in the hotel room.
