Chapter 4: Relatives
"How is he?" Vivaan approached the doctor walking towards them.
"The surgery went well, we're going to observe him over the next 7 days and see how his recovery is going" the doctor answered, "Mr Kapoor, he will need to be cared for until he is able to recover completely. Due to his age, recovery may take longer than usual" he added.
"That's fine, I'll be here to take care of him" Vivaan assured him.
"Alright, I would like to discuss his care after he leaves from here, why don't we go into my office?" he suggested.
"I'm going to be caring for my husband, I want to know about his care" Roma approached them.
Vivaan glanced at her narrowing his eyes, "He is not going to be returning to the house with you in it"
"He is my husband" Roma scowled. "You don't have a say, you left, remember!"
"Mrs Kapoor, please" Amaya intervened coming to stand between her step mother and brother and looked between them. "Dad has just got out of surgery, he's not strong enough to be in between your arguments" she cried and turned to Vivaan. "Bhai, please..."
Vivaan sighed heavily and reluctantly nodded, "I'm not going to stay at the house with her there" he informed.
"That's fine by me" Roma stated.
"That also means, when dad is discharged he is going to come and live with me. I'm going to care for him, you can visit him" Vivaan looked at her.
Roma was about to protest when Amaya interrupted again.
"Bhai, dad's going to know something is wrong if we do that. I'll move back in and take care of him. You can stay at Dolly aunty's house in my room, then visit dad. Mrs Kapoor will stay away when you're there" she informed and looked at Roma noting she was about to protest. "Mrs Kapoor, you're going to agree to this even if you don't like it. Dad's not going to be able to take the stress if you both don't agree to act cordial. I'm not going to lose my dad over your fights".
"I'm fine with that" Vivaan stated and turned to the doctor, "Shall we?"
The doctor nodded and led him away to his office.
Amaya then spoke to Dolly about Vivaan staying with them for a while which she'd happily agreed to. This news wasn't taken very well by his cousins.
"That pervert chachundar is going to stay in the same house" Meera commented.
"Good luck" Geet wished her.
Meera groaned recalling that Geet was leaving tomorrow morning. "That is so not fair, I want to come with you to Delhi".
"What's not fair?" Namita walked over having paid a visit to her cousin to check on how he was doing. He was unconscious and asleep.
"Geet di is going back to Delhi tomorrow" Meera pouted.
"No, she isn't" Namita stated.
Geet looked up from her phone and arched her brows. "What do you mean, no?"
"You're not going to be leaving, Rajveer has just had a massive operation. We need everyone helping Vivaan and Amaya out".
"You've got the whole village, mama. What the hell am I going to do?" Geet scowled.
"Help me of course" Namita rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, whatever" Geet countered and glanced down the hallway, she stood and approached her father. "Dad! Tell mama" she pointed.
Siddharth looked confused, "What do you mean?"
"She's not letting me go back to Delhi tomorrow" Geet crossed her arms leaning forward and softly whispered, "I'm going to drive off in the night if she doesn't let me go tomorrow morning".
"Both of you..." Siddharth pinched the bridge of his nose. "This isn't a time for you both to be arguing..."
"It's your wife" Geet narrowed her eyes and looked over to see Namita smirk.
"Sometimes, I wonder whether you are my daughter and if she is my wife" Siddharth sighed. "You both definitely share blood, so I know you're related to one another".
"I am leaving tomorrow" she stated loud enough for Namita to hear.
"We'll see" Namita answered and turned to Meera.

"I really do love you, Amaya" Meera said as she tugged the sheets off the bed and replaced them with new sheets. "But I hate your brother".
"He's not bad, Meera di" Amaya chuckled. "He's... honestly he loves me so much. He is just so awesome" she said.
"You're obviously going to be saying that, he's your brother. But I have seen another side to him which you clearly haven't" Meera changed the pillow covers and puffed them placing them on the bed. "I really wish Geet di had punched him once more on my behalf" she added.
"I still can't believe Geet di punched him" Amaya laughed. "Nobody dares to touch bhai, like no one".
"He deserved it" Meera stated.
"Oh really?"
Amaya and Meera turned around in surprise, Vivaan and Maan stood by the door. Maan looked amused whilst Vivaan narrowed his eyes.
"Bhai" Amaya smiled and walked over hugging him tightly. "Meera di and I just finished setting up the room for you and Maan bhai" she pointed.
"I was forced to do it, or else I wouldn't have" Meera informed.
"I don't see anyone holding a gun to your head" Vivaan answered, "Why don't you just admit it? You wanted to do it for me in order to try and impress me"
Meera arched her brows crossing her arms and perused him lazily, "You're not very handsome, don't look very strong and you've got the firangi thing going for you. I'm not impressed by you, so I don't see why I would need to impress you. You're not my type" she replied surprising Vivaan and Maan.
"Nice one, di" Amaya laughed lifting her hand for a high five.
"Amaya, seriously?" Vivaan looked at his sister in disbelief.
"C'mon bhai, this is the first I've seen you fighting with two girls and they happen to have smarter come backs" she winked. "Anyway, where is Geet di? It's been so long since she'd come and we haven't spent much time" she looked at Meera and together they walked out of the room.
"How are they my cousins?" Vivaan muttered.
"Geet seems more your cousin than Meera" Maan commented.
"Meaning?"
"She seems like your type, serious, angry and a sharp tongue" Maan chuckled. "Meera, on the other hand is a true Punjabi. Fierce, strong yet playful".
"Geet is a gawaar as is Meera" Vivaan replied.
"And you don't believe that for a second" Maan answered opening his travel bag and pulled out a change of clothes. "Which 'gawaar' wears jumpsuits and shorts here? Also they both speak fluent English like you, firangi" he winked.
"You're a bas***d"
"And you love me" Maan chuckled entering the joined bathroom to change.
Vivaan shook his head and pulled out his phone, he scrolled through his emails and responded to emails that required his attention. He then made a call to his office for an update explaining to his managing staff of his stay in India for a couple of weeks at least.
"I talked to my secretary today" Maan exited the bathroom rubbing his hair dry with the towel changed into pyjamas pants and a t-shirt. "She's gotten a team ready for Jacqui, we just need the flight details"
"Thanks for that, just send the invoice to my billing department" Vivaan responded. "Once these two gems are broken and turned into jewellery, I'm sure we'd have a bigger profit turn over this year".
"That's good, it will keep your busy and not stressing so much about your dad"
"When are you leaving?" Vivaan slumped on the bed stretching his legs out.
"Probably tomorrow morning, I've got to head back to the office. There's only so much my staff can do without me. I've got a new set of guys joining me so I need to set up their training. Why?"
"No, it would have been good if you stayed here for a couple more days. It's been so long since we've met. Most of our contact has been over the phone" he pointed out.
"Duty calls unfortunately" Maan replied. "I'll try coming down in a few days though, I just need to sort out the new recruits especially as in the medical stage. Some could be suffering with PTSD following their stint at being in the army, so any one of them could take it out on my staff which I don't want" he added.
Vivaan nodded in agreement, he then climbed off the bed heading to the bathroom to shower and change.
