The Fair Confession
Shot One
"Ufff it's sooo hot!!!" He exclaimed sprawling on the couch.
"And I'm sooo bored out of my mind and we are not even half way through the summer vacation," she stated joining him.
"What to do? What to do?" He murmured under his breath.
"Hey guys!!!" Nandini greeted more like shouted from god knows where. "Whatcha doing? Huh? Huh?" She questioned in a suggestive tone that if it's even possible whilst as well joining them on the couch out of nowhere.
"We are bored!" both said alike in a solemn tone.
"Why don't you both go out and play some sport? It's good for health, mind..." Nandini started only to be interrupted by she saying, "it's like 40 outside and you want us to go play? Like seriously? You may enjoy getting roasted like a chicken out there but, I definitely don't."
"Also I'm not interested to play," He gave his input.
Nandini folded one hand and kept another on her chin, pretended to think deeply... while other two stared at her like staring at the tv the last few seconds before the start of their favorite show.
Suddenly Nandini screamed idea' with a jubilant expression making the both fall out of their seats.
Not bothering about their states or to be precise their eardrums she continued screaming, "that calls for the story telling time..."
Hearing it he keenly shouted, "Oh Yes!" the same time she whispered a, oh NO!'.
Not bothering about their response as well Nandini continued, "I haven't told you guys about the confession story right? I know I didn't. Oh my god! The Confession. What do I tell about it? It was like so perfect, so amazing, so delightful, so splendid, so lovely..." to rant all the adjectives in dictionary with a dreamy sigh.
While she sat there with a face written terror all over, he smiled fully pushing that teeny weeny hesitance away for dear Nandini's sake.
Not taking in their reactions as well Nandini started telling
THE CONFESSION STORY...
Nandini's POV
It was a bright sunny day. Like literally the sun was burning over the heads sending everyone who thought of enjoying the awesome day of the summer outside; to the pit of hell with It's oh so awesome rays. I'm so jealous of those who are cocooned in their own haven called home and me being an outgoing girl saying that says something. And of course all thanks to you-The Sun.
In such an awesome day, I being the blessed one am here at the corner of a stall at our town's annual fair, on its last day, among a huge huge crowd, waiting for my jackass of a best friend who went to washroom like an half hour before, all alone; that if you don't consider my yum cotton candy which's gonna die real soon.
Oh my poor cotton candy.
That idiot didn't even buy me another candy before leaving. Now how am I gonna survive in this battle after my weapon's-cotton candy-death? And there is not even a chair around here to sit because my heels are killing me with all walking and standing. I have had enough exercise to last a life time. Stupid fair. Stupid stalls. Stupid crowd. And yeah stupid Manik.
Manik. My best friend from diaper days. Like all other best of a friends we are also close, really close, super close and all that shiznits. How much ever we may argue, fight, play pranks on each other, we have always got each other's back. And I know he will always be there for me and vice verse. I love him so damn much.
Love
This is where border is drawn between us. How much ever I love you's exchanged doesn't change the fact that I'm always friend zoned. And I hate it. Blame my hormones, I dunno how? When? Why? But I started falling for my best friend every breathing moment a little more harder. The crush developed on him is by the teasings of my girl friends back then during our early teenage years is now blown up into a gigantic one. And I just couldn't help it, like at all.
Manik had had went out with few girls and adding his Greek God features to the mix doesn't really help his case but no one lasted for longer than a week. I dunno why though; In spite of him being a handsome piece of work, but I don't just love him for that. I have loved him even when he was wearing ahem braces ahem. What I felt for him is a strong connection which is definitely more than physical attraction. As for me I tried to give few boys a chance but when you love a boy whole heartedly you won't really have it in you to go ahead and do so. So let's just say I have never dated anyone.
Sometimes I question myself that why do I even love this boy? Situations like now. See, here I'm thinking about my love for him when he has left me all alone without even a bound cotton candy. And if he doesn't reach here soon definitely he is going to get a nice bitch-slap from me.
Interrupting my thoughts, I felt a tap on my shoulder when I was about take the last bite of my candy. I turned around only to get the answer for the question I asked myself. Manik.
"Let's go," he said taking my hand in his.
I stared at him and at my candy and at him and forth and back a few times and decided to postpone the punishment then took the last bite of the candy and started moving.
He just shook his head at me and dragged me along with him.
"Where are we going manik? I'm so tired," I said breathlessly exactly 10 seconds later and even added effect by wiping my imaginary sweat off my forehead cause let's just say I loathe exercise and walking is considered as exercise.
Manik rolled his eyes at my antics knowing well about me and said, "Miss. Dramaqueen if you drop your melodramatic act I'll take you to a stall and get you a teddy as prize."
Hearing the word teddy all my pent up energy perked up, I started nodding excitedly with crescent sized smile etched on my face and dragged manik with me in the crowd. Frankly I'm not much fond of these kinds of stalls except for eatery because basically they were full of thieves stealing our money with our knowledge and make a big fool out of ourselves. But the word teddy is enough for me to lose all my sane thoughts cause I love love love soft toys, teddy bears to be precise. They are so soft and fluffy just like my chubby chubby cheeks. I have big collection of them at my bedroom and I definitely don't mind adding another member to my collections.
Being short is cute but at times like this it's a curse. I don't see any stall. All I see is people, people and more people. Somehow manik managed to find the stall. I sighed thinking about the perks of being tall. Finally we reached near the stall and and and it's love at first sight.
OMG the second we reached there I started making all googly eyes at it. It's a red and white colored, fluffiest teddy I have ever seen. It's not soo big but not so small either. And I set my eyes on it; I will get it by hook or by crook.
With that thought I started poking manik on his sides continuously to gain his attention, who was talking with the person handling the stall. When I finally got his attention which is a look of annoyance that clearly stated WTH Nandini' nevertheless attention, I pointed the teddy I set my eyes on at him and nagged him to win it like a kid. Who the hell cares about maturity when you have a teddy like that in front your eyes but clearly out of your reach?
He turned to look the prize I pointed at, for a moment he looked so stunned but quickly recovered and asked me, "Is that what you want?"
Though I was a little skeptical about his reaction, I shrugged it off thinking that maybe he was wondering about how to win the task and nodded at him like a little child high on sugar. He smilingly pulled my nose and shook my head two times and said fixedly, "Then we will surely win it."
I mentally did a victory dance and showed him all my pearl white teeth, as he chuckled at my antics, turned to buy the ticket and asked for the rings. The person gave him rings and explained the procedure.
Basically there are three tower like structures of different heights and four rings are given at once. We should shot three out of this four on the poles at the top of the towers. It may sound so easy but the thing is the towers are dancing like a belly dancer from left to right and right to left and as if that's not enough we are standing at 7mts distance from it. When the instructions got over I completely lost hope and stared at the teddy longingly and at Manik.
He sent me a smile and wink and mouthed a You'll get it, nandini promise'. Immediately like a light bulb my face brightened at his promise cause when he Nandini promised he never backs out of it, never. Same goes with me but I do manik promise.
A cheeky smile lingered at his lips looking at my face then he turned towards the tower and focused on the game. 1st chance, 1st ring- he missed it, 2nd ring- he did it. 3rd and 4th- he missed it. This went for 2 more chances. In all the chances he either pocketed one ring or two ring but never three.
Its 4th chance 1st and 2nd - he did it.3rd- he missed it. and 4th- yipeee guess what? Of course He missed it as well.
Finally it's 5th chance. I crossed my fingers and sent him a encouraging smile and looked up, closed my eyes and prayed to aiyyapa. After few seconds or minutes I'm not sure, I felt a presence before me. I opened eyes to stare straightly at his captivating eyes, for a moment I forgot the world and just stared at his eyes. Then I snapped back to reality and looked at his blank face expectantly. Slowly his lips slightly twitched into a half smile only to be soon blown into a full grin as he held the teddy in front of me.
Call me a girl, my eyes widened and I let out a very high pitched girly squeal that can deafen anyone under the radius of 3 miles and jumped into Manik's arms crushing him in the process as much as I can and kissed his cheek. Hard. Then shouted, "I love you manik. Thank you so much." In his ears. Since Manik is already familiar to these kinda things and also he is a nandini proof material he hugged me back harder and retuned the kiss on my temple and replied, "I love you too and you are welcome." In my ears huskily, which didn't let me break the hug any time soon.
Looking at us I won't be surprised even if people already called the hospital for mentally challenged to admit us. Though we act like retard but whatever, I don't care.
I backed away from the hug with a big grin knowing that he kept his promise, held my hand in front of him for teddy, but he smilingly shook his head and wrapped his arm around my waist and dragged me away from the stall. The proximity does makes me lose my sanity for a moment but I quickly cover it up and shrugged his arm off my waist and stood in front of him with hands on my hips trying to look intimidating.
Seeing my pose of course he cracked up, but one look at my face knowing that I'm serious when it comes to teddy bears he tried to control his laugh which he failed miserably. I shrugged it off as well knowing that whatsoever happens I can never pull of this intimidating look without looking like a creepy clown, I tuned myself to my next posture that is arms folded across my front with an annoying pout.
When he still didn't stop his chuckles I glared at him and asked, " Well... Aren't you gonna give me, my teddy?" This is real torture for me people. Just have a look at that fluffy thing which I still couldn't hold even after winning it. Oh poor poor little me.
He mischievously started smiling, "Well..." mocking me, "As technically it is me who won it so if you want to have it means, don't I deserve something in return?" he asked.
I thought of all possibilities to snatch it away but knowing him I sighed and asked sarcastically, "so what the highness deserve in return?" he merely shrugged still with the smile on his lips.
"Manik please I'm not up for any game. So," I practically begged and tried to take it away from him by jumping like a masaai african tribe but curse my short height I just can't reach his hand. No, wait curse his height cause he is the one who looks like a lamp post here, not me. My height is just cute dude.
While trying to escape me, Manik just ran away laughing his ass off, leaving me half way through my jump to gawk at his retreating figure like an open mouthed fish-a cute one at that. Once reality hit me hard literally by a huge uncle who was on his way to- I dunno- I started chasing Manik yelling profanities at him with no care to surroundings or whatsoever.
After some time of the merged hide&seek and run&catch he stopped at a place catching his breath. Oh and the great me literally sat (at least I didn't lay) on the ground next to him catching my breath as well which felt like a chore after losing the energy to even stand for next decade or so and using my itsy bitsy leftover energy in planning and plotting the tortures for the guy standing next to me, for making me run enough for whole seven lifetimes. Now you would have understood about my oh so famous athletic ahem in ahem abilities.
In my still dazed state I felt someone lifting me up to make me stand on my foot. I lifted my head too slowly to make this moment as clich as I could to look who it is but who am I kidding, of course it's Manik. Then I realized that I should be angry at him and jerked my head up only for my eyes to lock with his and for all I care I'm a goner. He isn't even half tired as me, sporting his nandini special reserved smile. But... yeah there is a but, he tries sooo hard to mask some emotion from me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but anxiousness I guess. But why anxiety though?
I tried to ask him what's wrong but he beat me before I could even have a chance, pointing something with his forefinger for me to look and said with dazzling smile, "Nandini! Look!!" looking at him smiling, a default smile made its way on my face and turned to look at what he was trying to show me with that kid's enthusiasm. And when I did look at it all those feels went in a thin air only to be replaced by pure horror.
