CHAPTER 7

Nandini stood in front of Iktara Musics wondering for the nth time how she had ended up here.

Navya...contract...recording...events of last few days running through her head in a blur...

Aiyyappa main yeh kahan aake phas gayi?' She asked her Aiyappa yet again.She walked into the huge building nervously. She went to the reception desk and asked

"excuse me. I'm Nandini Murthy. I was called here for a recording."

"yes, ofcourse Mam. our team is waiting for you at Recording room no 11. Second floor first door on the right." the receptionist answered in a professionally polite voice.

She entered the recording room no 11. There was a blur of activity inside.

"hmmm. Excuse me?" Nandini said in a tentative voice.

Suddenly everyone inside came to a stand still. Before she had a chance to figure out what was going on, she was dragged in by more than one pair of arms.

" Maam. We've been waiting for you." A guy said to her and pushed a paper into her hands. " This is the lyrics."

" Ok? Can I meet the director?"

"He'll be here in a short while." He said and pushed her into the recording room.

"but the tune?" She asked bewildered

" aap apne hi tune mein gayiye na. aagar koi change chahiye ho toh director saab aapse bata denge"

"par.." but he had already closed the door and left her there.

What the hell is going on here? Nandini had no idea what to do. It's been a long time since she sang anything. Now she had to sing with a tune of her own?! God! Yeh kya ho raha hain mere saath?' She took a deep breath and prepared herself.

Soon music started filling her ears. She closed her eyes and tried to feel it. This was something her grandma had taught her.

She began humming...

Haaa..aa.a.aa.aaahh..ooo.hmmm..

Hmmm..mmm..aaa..

Main jaan yeh var doon...

Har jeet bhi haar doon..

Her voice flowed out with such passion, the lyrics were as if it had been made for her. She closed her eyes and saw his face. Every moment they shared began flashing through her eyes. Each word that came out of her mouth was straight from her heart...

When she opened her eyes, her vision was blurred. She felt someone tapping her shoulder. She turned around. Just then the power went off and she couldn't see who it was.

After a minute the light came back and she found herself staring into a familiar pair of deep brown eyes. There was a moment of total silence.

"Tum?!" they both shouted at the same time and sprang apart.

Wahan Manan mil chuke thae aur yahan our luv guru was busy hitting the young electrician.

"Maine tumse kahan tha ki the light should be gone just after they see each other. You idiot"

" sorry sir. Agli baar koi galthi nahin hoga"

"Arae kya sorry...tujhe toh mein..."

Okk..toh aap log soch rahe honge ki yahan ho kya raha hain? Hum thoda rewind kake dekthe hain ki aakhir parde ke peeche kya ho raha tha.

2 days before.

" Hello? Kya mein Manik Malhothra se baat kar sakthi hoon?" Arohi asked nervously.

" Haan. Aap kaun bol rahe hain?" Maya asked from the other end.

"Main Arohi Murthy bol rahi hoon. His friend's sister" Arohi replied. But just then she heard Manik shouting at a servant through the phone.

Maine tumse kaha tha ...ki muje black coffe chahiye yeh kya banakar rakha hain tumne...after a moment she heard a crash. She gulped hard all her courage draining away.

" Hmm sorry ji lagtha hain maine galat no per call kiya hain. Bye" the call ended abruptly.

Maya was staring at it bewildered. Arohi Murthy? Yeh koun sa naya friend aaya hain Manik ka? Murthy? Oh...oh.kahin yeh Nandini Murthy ki behen toh nahin?!

She called Arohi back. After a lot discussion they decided to meet. Thus Arohi meet with the rest of Fab5 and Navya. She knew that she was taking a great risk. But the situation itself demanded drastic steps and she took it. Ab toh saare cupids mil chuke hain toh Manan toh gaya kaam se!

1 day back.

Nandini received a call from Navya.

" Nandini ...nandu mujhe tumhari madad chahiye. Can you pls come to my house?!" Navya said in a croaking voice.

" navya, tum teek ho na?" Nandini asked worried.

"just come here pls..." the call ended abruptly.

On the other end Cabir was face palming himself. " madhubala ji har baar over acting karna zaroori hain?!" he asked.

" oh shut up Cabir. She totally fell for it." Navy said all smug.

Arohi was watching nandini leave in a hurry while pretending to read a book. As soon as she left she quickly messaged in their new whatsapp gp 'Cupids 4 Manan'

Arohi : Nandini di has lft the house.

Dhruv: gud. I'm off to Manik's.

Cabir: all set.

Navya was getting ready for her scene. She washed her face to make her eyes go all red. She rushed to the door when she heard the doorbell ring.

Nandini was alarmed to see navya in this state. Her eyes were red and she was leaning against the door as if she would fall down any moment. "aaah.." she said holding her throat.

Cabir was watching the scene behind the curtains. hai bhagwaan yeh madhubala ka main kya karun...throat pain hi toh bolne keliye kaha tha par she is acting as if woh labour pain main hain' cabir thought giving a deep sigh.

" kya hua Navya?"

" nandini ...tumhe hamari madad karni hi hogi. Humre gale mein dard hain. eise lag raha hein jaise maine acid pee li ho. Par hamare troup ko ek bahut bada contract milne wala hain. Hum chahte hain ki tuh hamari jagah lelae. Warna ithna bada mauka haath se chut jayga. Hamari zindagi barbaad ho jayegi!" navya said breaking down into fake tears.

zindagi barbaad ho jaayegi? Like seriously? Yeh madhubala ki zindagi mein barbaad kardoonga agar yeh plan flop hogaya toh' cabir thought brandishing an imaginary knife at her.

" Par...main kaise?! Navya..main nahin gaa sakthi..i haven't sung since five years..."

" Nahiiin. Nandu eisae mat kaho please. Yeh hamari zindagi ka sawal hain" Navya said begging her.

Nandini had no idea what to do. She looked at her best friend who looked like she would pass out with grief any moment. She gave a deep sigh. Why am I always getting emotionally blackmailed these days?' She thought.

Cabir was now holding his head in his hands. It's over. usse sab pata chal gaya hoga. Madhu ki last line was beyond all limits. His head shot up suddenly when he heard Nandini's voice.

" teek hain..." nandini said in a small voice.

"Kya?!" Navya all but shouted in glee. After a second as soon a she realized her mistake she said " aahhh...hamara matlab hain ki thank u soo much Nandini...you are my savior" She said switching back into her croaking voice.

Cabir was doing his victory dance behind the curtain. Oh la lala oh la lala...oh la la...

Aayush was watching his dad with curious eyes. His mother had threatened to ban his chocolates if he spoke a word. Now his papa was doing this weird thing. After a moment of thought he too joined his dad singing oh da dada, oh daa..oh dada...

Arohi's phone flashed with a message

Cabir: Mission success! Nandini maan gayi.

Mukthi: One down. One to go. Well done bro!

Maya: *claps*

Aliya: *claps*

Arohi:*claps* dhruv bahiya ka kya khabar hain?

Dhruv: I'm all ready to go. Aagar ek ghate baaad bhi mere koi khabar nahin mila. Toh koi aajana mera dead body lene. *crying*

Aliya: Mai aajaungi patidev. Aap ithne jaldi hame vidhva nahin bana sakthe *winks*

Cabir: oye bas kar! Laila majnu...ek aur Mudhubala picture dekne ki shakthi nahi hain mujhmein.

Navya; * angry*

Arohi: *laughs*

Dhruv was all set for his scene. With a final prayer he entered Manik's cabin. Manik looked up irritated at the interruption. When he saw it was Dhruv, he softened up a little.

"Kya hua Dhruv?" Manik asked

"Buddy, tumhe patha haina ki Maya di ki 5^th wedding anniversary is this month. So kyun na hum unhe aur Adi bhaiyya ko es saal kuch special gift kare?"

"mathlab?"

" why don't we dedicate our next album to them. We'll make it a romantic one depicting each stage of their life."

"good idea Dhruv. Get started then." Manik said getting back into his work.

Here goes the suicide bomb. Dhruv thought to himself and said " buddy, actually we've found a new female voice already. she's quite talented. Agar iss project ke male voice...tum banoge toh di ko bahut acha lagega"

Manik looked up from his work and glared at Dhruv. uh ho Dhruv's mental alarm went off.

"Tumhe ache se pata hain na ki main koi gana nahin ganewala. My decision has not changed and it never will." He said with finality.

" but..."

" Dhruv. anything else?" he cut him off neatly.

Dhuv knew that there was no use in hitting against the wall. So he took his leave. He let the others know about his decision but if he was stubborn so were they. The master mind cabir began laying out the new plan.

All the cupids were ready with their plan.

Ca: receptionist ko inform kiya?

Al: yup

Ca: staff ko inform kiya?

Na: haan haan humne sab kar diya hain. Bas electrion nahin mila raha.

Ca: I'll take care of him.

Ar: nandini di nikal chuki hain.

Na: *shocked* ham director ko lana bhool gaya

Ca: NAVYA!

Mu: Calm down guys. Main kuch karti hoon.

Dv: I'm going for Manik

Ca: aayushman bhava!

Cabir got a call on his phone from the receptionist.

"sir woh aa chuki hain"

Cabir rushed into the recording room no 11. Everyone were rushing around to take their position when they heard a timid voice

"ummm.. excuse me?"

Manik's cabin

Dhruv rushed in to his cabin.

"Manik, come on." He said dragging him of his chair.

"Kya hua buddy?" Manik asked seeing his buddie's stange behavior.

" woh maine kaha tha na new project. Aaj uski 1^st recording hain. We need you to see it just once."

"ok. But itni jaldi kyun hain?"

"kahin der na ho jaye"

Manik was about to argue back when he heard an angelic voice. He felt himself getting drawn to it. The voice held such deep passion that made his heart flutter.He found himself walking as if he was in a trance ...

Haan hasi ban gaye...

Haan nami ban gaye...

Tum meri aasm meri zameen ban gaye...

Aaa...aaa...aaa...ooo..hmmm..

She saw the girl standing there facing away from him. Manik felt that he had heard this voice somewhere before. He tapped at her shoulder curious to see her face...

Just then the power went off. When it came back he felt himself staring into the same pair of chocolate brown eyes. They were standing close to each other. It took a moment for him to recover.

"Tum?!" they both said at the same time and jumped apart.

So they met again. Thanks to the cupids. But aage jo hone wala tha woh unke haath mein nahin tha. Ab tak humne dekha ki cupids ne Manan ki luv story kaise likha. Ab hum dekhenge ki Manan khud apne luv story kaise likththe hain!
