Manik & Nandini - Stars & Fireflies 102
MOTHER - she gives life to us; she keeps us safe in her womb for 9 months; bears immense pain to bring us to this world; loves us unconditionally; protects us till her last breath; and even after that. MOTHER they say gad can't be everywhere so she created MOTHER.
As Manik walked with an injured Nandini in his arms he was torn apart by his feelings. True Neyonika was never a mother for him but she was still the woman gave him life. There was a bond which was never acknowledged and appreciated by her but there was a bond which ended today with her death. Manik always secretly wished whenever he saw a shooting star for mother in her; he never admitted it but he did love her somewhere deep down maybe even he didn't knew until now.
He sat in the car holding Nandini close to him as Cabir took the wheel and Navya next to him with her head hung in shame. Manik wiped the blood off her forehead and checked the wound. For his relief it wasn't too deep but Manik kept kissing her face, her forehead to heal her and himself too. There was a complete silence in the car; a deathly silence which was broken by Nandini's whimping as she was coming back to her senses. Manik heaved a sigh of relief as he saw her trying to open her eyes. He held her more closely and caressing her face "Nandini baba! Wake up" she opened her eyes with some difficulty and said in a feeble voice "Ma..Mani..k"
He cried of happiness; he was craving to hear her voice; he was dying to see her all safe and sound; he was dying to hold her close and ask her to take his pain away. He took her in a bone crushing hug and cried like a baby, a baby who had lost everything. "I am an orphan now Nandini! I am an orphan." He uttered between his sobs. Nandini was still in a semi conscious state but she understood that something had terribly gone wrong. She tried to sooth him and calm him down but her body gave up and she fainted again. Manik panicked and shouted "Cabir drive fast."
They reached hospital in no time. Manik ran with Nandini in his arms with Cabir and Navya following him. Fortunately Nandini was also taken on the same floor as DJ. As soon as he entered the corridor he saw Damini, Abhi, Mukti, Dhruv and Alya pacing up and down nervously. As Nandini was wheeled into ICU Manik let go of her hand with great difficulty. He bent down and kissed her forehead saying "this forever is bigger than any forever. I love you." Abhi ran to Manik and asked "what happened? How is she hurt? Where is Harshad and Neyonika?" Manik smirked but it was laced with a little sarcasm and a little pain.
"how is DJ?" Manik asked. Abhi was about to answer when the doctor examining DJ came with her reports and asked the immediate family to meet him up for a discussion. Worried as hell they all followed the doctor; once in his Cabin he informed them that her one kidney is completely damaged and other is partially. Manik and everyone else just sank in their chair in despair but bringing a ray of hope for all of them doctor said "but we do have a chance if anyone from her family can donate her the kidney." Manik and Abhi looked at each other; they both wanted to but they had some questions and few doubts.
Realizing their doubts the doctor smiled and said "don't worry both of you are young and healthy and you can lead a normal life but with few precautions." Being assured by the doctor Manik and Abhi proceeded for some test to match up the kidneys. Back at waiting hall Cabir told everyone what happened after Nandini was kidnapped. Knowing that Neyonika is dead everyone was shocked but secretly happy too for Manik as she had been the biggest curse in Manik's life. Alya broke down on hearing Harshad's arrest. "All my life all he had done is to embarrass me. I am so ashamed to be his sister. How will I face Manik?" she was crying with Dhruv trying to console her.
"you don't have to Alya." Manik said as he and Abhi walked in after the tests. "I am so sorry Manik." she cried and Manik hugged her to sooth her pain for he was the only person who could understand what it was to be let down by the person we look up to. "you should go and meet Harshad." He said and sent Alya along with Dhruv to meet Harshad. On not finding Cabir and Navya Abhi asked about their where abouts . Damini informed that he had taken to get Navya admitted. Manik laughed and said "Of course Navya do need to be in hospital all along." Just then the nurse walked in to inform him that Nandini had woken up and doctor called him to talk; hearing this Manik ran out.
Meanwhile in Navya's room there was a complete silence as Cabir and Navya were sitting on her bed. After what seemed like eternity Navya finally broke her silence and said "sorry Cabir." Cabir smiled "Sorry! Huh its such a great word. I know you were under stress and drugs but look what have you done?" Cabir's voice for the first time reflected the anger and pain. "you in your madness have destroyed so many lives. Manik, Nandini, DJ and Neyonika is dead. She is dead Navya do you realize." Cabir finally lost his cool.
"Cabir hum jaante hain ki humne kya kiya hai par hum vada karte hain ki hum apni galti sudharenge. Tum hamara saath doge na. Agar tumhara pyaar hamare saath hai toh." "ohhh." Cabir stopped her in between and laughed said "mera pyaar wow now you realize my love. Where was this Navya when I wanted to you to me, talk to me. You know what Navya I can't do this. I love you yes I do and I will support you to come out of this but we can't be together as of now. I need time to think." He walked out leaving her all broken and shattered and alone to deal with her deeds and realize where she got everyone.
Manik ran into Nandini's room at a breakneck speed. He saw the doctor examining her and she looked at him and gave a faint smile. The doctor came and said to Manik "don't worry Manik she is fine now. Yes she is weak cause she lost some blood and is under some stress but she normal now an you can take her home tomorrow." Manik thanked the doctor who after giving a warm smile left the room.
"Manik!" she called out his name stretching her arm and as if he was waiting to be called he ran into her embrace taking her in a bone crashing hug. He had been holding everything in him. As soon as she hugged him he let all out crying like a kid. "Nandini!" her name was the only thing that was coming out of his mouth. It didn't take Nandini long to realize that Manik is deeply hurt and broken. She pulled apart and wiped his tears. She kissed his eyes and asked softly "Manik kya hua?" Manik's eyes swelled and he again took her in a hug. "Neyonika is dead Nandini. Everything is over Nandini." He cried and Nandini was shocked.
"what?" Nandini asked "Neyonika." Breaking the hug. "My mother is dead though she was never a mother to me but she is still the reason why I am breathing in this world and she is gone. She is gone Nandini. I am an orphan Nandini." His tears won't stop. She looked into his eyes and pulled him close saying "Manik we have seen toughest times together and we will see this off also together. This shall pass too." And without saying anything further she fused her lips on his. Pouring all her love, warmth and assurance that she is with him no matter what come as he sat there soaking in her love and her warmth. He didn't respond but just felt her touch healing his broken heart and soul.
All this was witnessed by Damini, Abhi and Mukti. "I never thought Manik will be hurt this much by Neyonika's death." Mukti expressed her surprise. "she was his mother! Good or bad but the truth is she was and will always be. It's sad they could never make peace with their relationship." Damini sighed. Abhi and Mukti nodded in agreement, they knew Nandini was the only person who could heal him.
Life kicks us around, beats us. We fall down, get hurt and loose our way. But life also gives us hope; hope which comes as love. Love of that one person who when hugs us we feel alive, whose touch can sooth all over tears and mend our soul. One day someone hugs as if we were never broken and that someone is LOVE.
