Chapter 1 - The happening birthday

Happy birthday princess, you are 26 years old! Finally! Oh, how much you pined for this age to come! We had to shift to Atlanta, then marry, and then have a football team of our own, haina? Don't say you forgot. Haw, you seriously did? Ouch, I am hurt. It's been only 7 years, woman! Go have some almonds. Oh, so now you remembered. Good, very good. So about the gift, I had planned everything, no seriously everything! But you see; now I cannot continue with my plans for you anymore. No angel, don't cry. Wipe those tears before they fall. Those diamonds are so precious to me.

I love you and I know that you love me too. Nandini, I still want to see you in the bridal attire. Marry someone, move on. I want to see my angel happy.

I love you, Manik!" Nandini, after reading, hugging and kissing the letter for infinite times, wrote it at the back of the letter and kept it back in the cupboard after keeping it back in the box, safely.

I was too tired and just wanted to crash, least caring about my own birthday party. I was laughing while I imagined what would it look like when they'd have count downed for a... wall? I smiled cheekily on my own thoughts and my phone started ringing flashing an unknown number.

"Umm hello?"

"Hello! Nandini?" A voice of some guy came from the other side.

"Yeah who is this?" I asked, not able to recognize the oh-so-recognizable voice.

"Nandini you don't remember me? I am Dhruv yaar." Wait, what did he say?

"Dhruv? Dhruv Vedant?" I asked not sure if he was really our Dhruv.

"Yes, Dhruv vedant" He chuckled and I smiled widely.

"Oh my god Dhruv!! How are you? Where were you? I missed you so much you know!" I squealed in happiness.

"Take a breath, Nandu! And yeah, happy birthday!" He too sounded happy.

"Thank you Dhruv! I am so happy!" I was not able to control my happiness. I never expected him to call me after all these years.

"So you don't even remember how I sounded, eh?" He asked tongue-in-cheek.

"Dhruv it's been 4 years and you do know that right? You have changed buddy." I referred to him as buddy. Just how my Manik did.

"Changed for good" He sighed.

"Oh yes, you sound so mature. Dhruv I seriously cannot believe that I am talking to you. You just disappeared after..." I trailed off.

"Yeah, after that... Acha Nandini? Are you free tomorrow? I wanted to meet. I mean if you have any plans..."

"Umm, I have some important work in the morning so we can meet for Lunch, cool?"

"Han yeah sure, sure"

"Too desperate to meet me haan?" I tried to joke.

"Obviously woman! Who would drop the chance of meeting such a gorgeous lady?" He tried to flirt. It was so unlike our sweet, shy guy Dhruv. He really has changed a lot.

"Oh Dhruv I missed you so much!"

"I missed you too... umm yeah tell me Nandu... do you... I mean... did you... No I just..." Idk why he was stammering.

"Dhruv, stop fumbling, it's just me. Say what happened?" I tried to make him a bit comfy. He was always this shy while expressing himself.

"Nothing... wo actually I just... wanted to know... that if you... I mean... you are... Mtlb you ma... no no... You are... like are you married?" The question was so out of the blue that I had almost spit my juice.

"Haha stop it Dhruv! You know na that I-"

He stopped me in the middle and his voice turned a bit better than before, "Okay cool we will meet tomorrow, bye!" He disconnected the call and I kept staring at it for a few minutes. Something was weird with him. Why did he want to meet me after all these years? And after our last meeting I never thought that I'd talk to him.

I hissed in frustration and threw my phone on the bed. I was thinking too much. He must have said all that in anger and it has been years. Time heals everything. He has changed.

Just as I was about to change myself into something comfortable, my phone buzzed again.

Harshad? I narrowed my eyes at the name displayed on the screen. Why is he calling me?I thought for a while when I realized that he may have called for wishing me. I smiled but when I was about to pick the call I realized that it was Harshad. The Harshad Saxena. F*ck! Why would he wish me?

I kept on pondering if I should pick it up or not when the phone stopped ringing. Yeah, cool enough I thought and changed into sweatpants and a loose shirt.

I lay back on my bed and kept playing with my locket, smilingly when the phone buzzed again. I frowned and thought of picking it up.

"Hello? Who's there?" As soon as I slid the green button towards the left, I heard Mukti's panicky voice. What happened to her? Wait, what was she doing with Harshad's phone?

"Mukti?! It's me Nandini." I replied and too curious to know the reason behind using Harshad's phone I started off, "Wh--"

"W*F! Nandini! Shit shit shit, ju...just stay there, I am coming! Stay there; don't move okay I am... I am coming!" She shouted on phone and I could hear the sounds of horns of cars and trucks and buses and planes and trains and whatever. "Stay on the line, I am on my way."

"What happened? And where should I stay? What are you saying Mukti? And why the hell are you using Harshad's cell?" I asked and waited for her reply but instead I heard the screeching of cars. "Mukti? Are you there? Is everything okay? Mukti... Mukti? Muktii?" But I only heard the beep of the phone which indicated that the line just got disconnected.

Something's terribly wrong, I should go. I thought and got up with a jerk. I took my car keys but realized that the car was still there in the parking of Brittany hall. Shit! I called Aryamann, only he could help me.

"Nandu, you reached home safely right? Hap-"

"Shut up Aryamann! And be at my place, FAST!" I shouted and disconnected the call, I had no time to listen or answer to his questions.

The time was passing by slowly. It had been only 2 minutes and I was restless. I started walking to and fro in front of my house, thinking of what could possibly have happened. Why was Mukti in such haste? She was looking tensed in the party as well. She wasn't even willing to drop me home, it was so unlike Mukti.

I shivered with the chilly winds and started rubbing my shoulders. My nose was all red and my teeth were chattering. It was indeed very cold. I couldn't breathe normally but was still avoiding going inside as Aryamann could show up at any moment.

"Babe" I turned to see Aryamann looking at me with concern. "Are you alright?"

"C'mon let's go, we don't have time, something's wrong with Mukti." I said and sprinted towards his car.

He followed me slowly and said, "And how are you so sure?" He looked as if he was possessed.

"Aryamann just... you know what, let it be. You are drunk and I am not taking you with me." I snatched the car keys from his hand and shoved my house keys in his hands. "Go and have some sleep. I'll call you." I said and sat in the driver seat. He was still standing beside the car.

"You have 3 songs to record tomorrow, just so you know." He said and marched towards the house. I saw his retreating figure and thought for a while. Why was he behaving so weirdly? First Mukti, and now this, Aryamann. There was something seriously wrong with both of them.

I thought that I should go and talk to him but then the voice of those screeching cars replayed in my mind and I ignited the car. What if... Mukti... got into... NO!

She said that she was reaching my place and she was in the party too which meant that she must be in the way. Yeah, but what's taking her so long...and that voice...?

She was tensed in the party. She was tensed in the party. She was tensed in the party. Only one thought was crossing my mind. I saw Harshad too with her. They must've fought again. Shit, it's something related to Harshad. It has to be something related to him.

What did he do now? Haven't he had enough? He need to know stop already.

My birthday was totally ruined. This was literally the worst birthday ever. I can't even...

I was all lost and driving the car when my phone again buzzed with Harshad's call. It might be Mukti. I pulled the breaks and picked the call.

"Er... who's this?" The voice gave me chills... No... It cannot be him... No, no, no this is not happening... ... "Are you there?"

"Yeah" I whispered back unable to take the torture of listening to his voice.

"Hey listen the last call was made to you by this phone... And er... I am at the hospital and your friend is with me... She got into some accident and... I just found her while passing through the... well, chuck it. Can you come here? I need to go."

"Who are you?" I asked back without paying any heed to what he said earlier. Mukti needed me but I needed to know if it was all real, if I was really listening to him. If he was really back...

"Uh, I am Manik, Manik Malhotra." He replied and causing my breath to stuck in my throat. "Now can you please come to the city hospital? I have some work and I am getting late and I really cannot leave her alone, so if you could please?"


It was certainly the most happening birthday of my life.

Okay so when you said you aren't killing him I think I should have understood that something drastic was gonna happen and it turns out I was right! You made him lose his memory! So this is amazing! I am going to sit back and enjoy watching them fall in love all over again! This sounds so dreamy na? I just hope that my hope comes true and I have my Bacchas loving each other again!
