Love-Sick
"You know him?" Aliya came from the back and poked me.
"What?" I asked raising my eyebrows. I admit that I got scared. Wait a second why is she out of her bed...
"Aliya get in the be..." I started but was stopped by a sudden thug of her hands on my shoulders.
"Sshhh. Don't panic, I am perfectly fine okay? I am even coming to college tomorrow." She said and smiled at me.
"Are you sure?" I again asked. I was too much worried for her. I couldn't handle that sick Aliya anymore in the future.
"Yup I am sure. Leave this and tell me, how do you know him?" She asked me excitingly.
I nervously smiled and said, "I-I don't know him." I looked everywhere but her. I just hoped that she didn't look at me while I was smiling at that stranger. That would sound so creepy. Haw.
"Are you sure? What was he doing here then?" She made a confused face. So even Aliya knows him, interesting.
"You know him?" I asked curiously. I so wanted to know his name.
"Haan wo he is Navya's cousin and our groupie too. We all hang out together." She said and stopped. Aliya, I will give you all of my jewelries, please tell his name to me. I thought to myself and nervously smiled.
"And you know he is the most weirdest friend I have ever had...Uhm, It's chilly out here. Let's go inside na." I cursed this chilly weather and followed her inside.
"He never shows his inner self to anyone. And you know he is just too, uhm, introvert? Yah, he is a typical introvert." She spoke and went inside the washroom. I was smiling to myself as I knew what was coming. Obviously, her rants. I was about to know his life history since the ice age. Thanks to Aliya's "Ranty" behaviour. Ranty. Is that even a word?
I was waiting impatiently for her to come out of the washroom and then she made the grand entry in her night pajamas.
"Freshen up and then I will tell you more about him." She excitedly ordered me handing over my towel to me and pushing me inside the washroom. I was never this happy whenever she wanted to share "Something" which ended up the whole night.
Once out, I hopped in my bed and waited for her to speak about my stranger. My stranger. MY STRANGER. No, he is just a stranger. No my-wy. *Sigh*
"You know Nandini. He is the most, the most, the most unsually weird person I have ever ever ever met! He is a very generous. He just believes in giving. He never expects anything from anyone. You know what, he is a gem. He never speaks rudely to anyone unless the person gets on his nerves. And once you see him in anger, you would never want to see him again." She spoke seeing the ceiling and then smile towards me.
"What's his name?" I asked and then cursed myself. I shouldn't be that interested in him. What is happening to you Nandini.
"Manik Malhotra." She spoke and blushed. Why is she blushing?!
"You are blushing." I spoke non-chalantly and with a bit of anger in my voice.
"Nah! I just remembered something. Good night, I am sleepy." She said and turned.
"Yeah, good night." I too wished her.
I had already starting liking him listening to her description. Maybe he was just too worked up that day. First impression is not always right.
"HOW MUCH TIME ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE IN THERE?! COME OUT ALIYA!" I shouted at her. She was inside the bathroom from the past half an hour and here I was getting late for my college.
"Gimme a minute!" She shouted from inside.
"I have given you 30 minutes Aliya." I stated and made a poker face.
"Stop making poker faces. I am coming. Count till 10." I could feel her smile in her words. We knew each other so well.
"10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3..."
"I am out! Get your ass in there." She spoke slapping on my shoulder.
"How are you going to college?" I asked her as soon as I entered the bathroom and rubbed my shoulder. "Ouch. It hurt."
"Definitely not in that bus! Dhruv'll pick me." She spoke. "It feels so good going to college after so many days."
I smiled. "Yeah"
I was standing on the bus stop waiting for my bus. Aliya had already left with Dhruv. I was listening to songs when someone patted me from the back. "Chottu!"
I turned around to find him, the stranger, Manik. "Hey stop calling me that!" I said forrowing my brows."
"You look so cute when you do this, Chottu!" He exclaimed and stood a feet away from me so that I could not beat him. I just smiled and stood there. Regardless of what was happening around.
The bus came after a good long time and we both stepped in. The bus was not much crowded today. What could be the reason? Then I realized that it was Saturday. Students usually took offs on Saturday.
I sat down on the front seat and Manik was next to me after seconds. I was all smiles and going through my Instagram feed when he poked at my shoulder and showed me a picture on his phone.
"OH MY GOD! He is so cute!" I exclaimed and snatched the phone from his hand. There was a picture of a 2-3 years old boy, smiling and showing all of his teeth. I smiled my biggest seeing him and started praising him.
"You want to see more? I have many more pictures of him. Let me show you." He took the phone from my hand and started showing me different pictures of that cute little guy which made me go in awe.
"He is so so so cute! Who is he?" I asked when he stopped scrolling.
"He is my sister's son." He spoke and smiled.
I nodded. "Kiss his cheeks from my side."
"Sure!" He exclaimed and I again got engrossed in my forgotten Instagram feed.
And in a just some moments the phone in my hand was no longer in my hand and was in his front pocket. I gave him my most famous killer-what look.
He shrugged. "I feel ignored."
"Manik stop it. Give my phone back." I said folding my arms across my chest.
"No...eh wait... you know my name... how?" He asked narrowing his eyes and making that same expressio which Aryamann makes and I giggled a little.
I went deathly close to his right ear, which obviously made him too much uncomfortable, and whispered, "It's for me to know and you to find out."
The next second, my phone was out of his pocket and in my hands. I ran away and stepped out from the bus. I winked at him before stepping out and he smiled, his cute smile.
"Nandini the music teacher told me that four students from our campus and four from the Eastern will be chosen and we all will be paired in two. Nandini are you listening to me?!" Mukti shaked me. I was not even listening to what she was bickering about.
"Han? haan I am listening" I said and smiled casually.
"Acha to bta maine kya bola?" She said and sarcastically smiled.
My smiled vanished away and I gave her a pleading look.
"Where are you lost?" She spoke furrowing her brows and making a sad face.
"Acha haan waise Music sir approached me yesterday. And I am already selected." I said to change the topic.
"Really? Wow! I wish ham teeno bhi select ho jayein. It would be so cool na!" She said and tapped at Cabir's arm. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing, just messaging Navya." He spoke and smiled at us.
"Love-sick." Aryamann sighed and I giggled.
