"You don't normally ask", she replied quietly, not answering my question.
She lifted her head to look at me. Her face full of questions, thoughts, emotions. And frustration too, frustration about the fact that I wasn't letting her cry her heart out in peace. But didn't she get it? I wanted no distance between us. I wanted to devour every single aspect of her and wanted her to feel comfortable enough to cry in front of me. Awkwardness had never been an issue for us like other couples, but today it had hurt her that she hadn't been able to speak up for herself like she did for everyone else. The problem was that she didn't know what was hurting her.
Nandini started sobbing softly, snuggling her form against my chest. I put my arms around her protectively and caressed her long tresses. It crushed me to know that people could try to hurt someone as adorable and kind as her. She was so beautiful, inside and out. I felt her stop crying and take my face in her hands.
So I decided to comfort her in the only way I knew how, I cupped her face in both my hands. If only we could stay like this forever.
She drew breath and pushed her hands from my shoulders down my arms, reaching my fingers, feeling them with her fingers before linking mine with hers.
"So", I teased, trying to lighten her up and make her smile.
"So", she whispered, biting her cheek to stop the smile from creeping up on her lips. I could see mischief stealing back into her twinkling eyes.
"So, I'm going to kiss you now."
She nodded. "I might kiss you back too, if you're lucky enough", she grinned.
"You might?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I might", she teased.
I brushed my lips against hers, warning her of what was coming ahead. I kissed one corner of her mouth, then the other. I trailed a finger against her bottom lip, releasing it from her teeth. My head dipped down and I followed the path that my finger had made. She gasped and her mouth opened to let me in. I pushed my tongue inside her lips and tasted every nook and corner of her delicious mouth. She tasted like cherries... sweet, ripe cherries. She moaned and threaded her fingers in my hair to deepen the kiss. I roll her beneath me and start kissing her slender, fragrant neck.I need to stop. Because if I don't stop now, I'll probably spiral out of control, and she isn't ready right now.
I pull away and kiss her between her brows softly.
"Manik", she murmurs. "Why me?"
"What?" I ask, confused.
"You could have any girl you want, why did you choose me? I'm a total nerd, I fight with you like a mini-monster, and..."
She stopped blabbering when I sneaked my finger up her tee and started tickling her. Her soft, tinkly giggle filled the entire room as she started laughing and trying to pry my hands off her. I Stopp and grinned at her.
"You really don't get it, do you?"
"Get what", she says , furrowing her brows.
"Nandini, I think you're failing to grasp what I'm saying to you and so I'm going to spell it out for you here, baby.People who are lucky enough to have your trust and your friendship, it is clear that they would have your back to within an inch of their life. And, Nandini. when you walk away from people, even strangers, you gotta know that their eyes follow you. It's because they don't want to see the light that is Nandini, the light that is you, walking away from them. They want to see it coming toward them and staying with them." But the light would always stay with me, my personal star. Cocky, but true.
"Uh-" she starts to say something, but I'm on a roll and this is my favorite subject and so I don't want to stop.
"So maybe I don't know a lot of things, Nandini, but what I do know is that you're beautiful. And the fact that I'm even explaining this to you right now is so endearing and frustrating at the same time."
"Manik," she starts, "Maybe-"
"No, Nandini," I said sternly. "Whatever you're about to say, consider that it goes in direct contrast to everything I've just said to you in last few minutes and if it does, just stop, okay?"
She stares at me again and then closes her mouth and quietly says, "Okay."
I grin at her. That's my girl. "Good answer."
"Manik?"
"Hmm?" I answer incoherently, her sweet smell messing with me senses.
"I love you," she spoke in a hushed tone.
I pressed my lips into her hair. "Me more."
She giggled at my sleepy answer and snuggled deeper into my arms.
