" Indian television has finally welcomed its first serious homosexual character. Are TV actors and fans ready for the changing tide?

In an era where young India has been vociferously calling for freedom of thought, speech, expression and choice, a young creative endeavour has been trying to generate waves of change in a medium that has mostly been infamous for its adherence to social stereotypes and taboos. Indian television has finally made way for its first serious homosexual character. No, we're not talking about the overtly feminine caricature accompanied by painfully familiar puns and euphemisms. Cabir, a character played by Ayaz Ahmed in MTV's top youth show Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan is a full-blooded human being, as normal as they come. With speculation rife around similar developments in Warrior High, and the Indian idiot box having finally opened its doors to positive representation of homosexuality, we speak to television actors and viewers for how willing they are to participate in this particular tide of change."

@bold this happens on TV and movies everytime they show a gay character. i am extremely grateful to this show for not following the cliched route and stereotyping the characterization of a homosexual character. its quite refreshing the way they have shown cabir as being any other normal individual who just happens to be gay. like the article says a serious gay character rather than using the character as the comic relief for the show. i applaud them for being sensitive towards this issue and not messing it up.

The fact that Cabir's sexuality doesn't take away or add anything to his self makes it all the more refreshing. No stereotyping , there is no distinction . Makes it interesting. Also Have to applaud the makers for actually trying to show his struggle for acceptance as well as his yearning for love. The fact that Cabir is never ashamed of his sexuality but is confident enough to fight for it makes it inspiring and truly pathbreaking.

Beautiful article. 👍🏼

I am so glad our show has not shown the Cabir's sexuality in a non- stereotyped form . The writers and Ayaz have done a phenomenal job.
