Part 3- Mornings with my love

Nandini didn't have any nightmares for the rest of her sleeping hours. Somewhere subconsciously she knew that Manik was around and that meant safety. Funny how in seven months her worst bully had become her shield. The first thing she noticed waking up was the unmade make-shift bed by the window. Manik was used to having people do his work for him, obviously he wouldn't make his own bed, silently without making the slightest noise, she got up, made her own bed and went to freshen up

Looking at herself in the mirror, she didn't recognize herself. The person in the reflection was pale and had her shoulders hunched instead of Nandini's confident disposition. She wasn't approving of who she had turned into; she looked down at her bruised wrists, now a bluer shade than yesterday. She reminded herself to accessorize well in order to cover those nasty wounds. Mustering up all her courage she finally got completely dressed for college in the span of 45 minutes.

She walked into her room and saw Manik lounging on her bed like he owned it. Seeing him always gave her mini flutters somewhere inside. He had his head resting against the wall and his eyes were closed, either thinking or napping. He looked fresh and well dressed in a pair of light blue denims and a white button down shirt. She noticed his features, thin yet full lips, jawline so sharp that it looked like it could cut glass when he clenched his teeth in anger, unnoticed stubble, Nandini loved the feel of it against her skin in their private moments but most of all she loved his eyes. Whoever said that eyes are the window to a person's soul was definitely right considering Manik could never truly disguise the emotions displayed in his eyes. But today there were dark shadows below his eyes, he never got dark circles. He must be stressing a lot, she thought and immediately felt guilty of putting him through all this.

She must have made some kind of noise because the very next moment Manik was awake and sitting bolt upright at the edge of the bed. It took him a second to analyse his surroundings, clearly he was napping. The he smiled at her, one of those rare ones which were preserved for her.

"You're ready. Looks like I'm faster than you Miss. Murthy. I went back home, got dressed and came back also. I should be renamed as the Flash." He said clearly trying to lighten up her mood.

"I can imagine the horror your servants and the people on the roads must have gone through considering you're not even 1% of the Flash." She said it without smiling or emotion, at least she was making an effort.

Her flat tone didn't go unnoticed by Manik, he got up and came close to her. Close enough that she had to crane her neck to look at him since she was almost a half a foot shorter. He brought up his hand to touch her cheek but felt her stiffen and repel his touch. It was subtle but Manik knew it and he dropped his hand to his side and brought his face closer whispering in her ear, "We wouldn't want to be late for college, now would we? Let's go girlfriend."

Her eyes shot up and widened in surprise. She wasn't expecting to be tagged as the girlfriend already but isn't that what she was unofficially to him for a very long time now. She smiled ever so slightly and nodded her head.

Collecting her tote bag and the essentials, the two of them went downstairs for breakfast to which Manik insisted he will take her out instead of eating at home. Chachi was hesitant but she had never refused Manik and even today his charm did the work of getting her approval. Manik was delighted at this mini victory and almost dragged Nandini to the car but then realised that she might have a panic attack again, so he let her lead the way.

The drive to college was a rather difficult one for them. Nandini was used to being the one nagging him but this time it was Manik who was constantly conversing.

"Nandini, the weather is so nice today! Look, I can actually feel like summer is about to end." he said cheerfully

"It's just the beginning of summer." Flat toned Nandini responded

"It's the beginning of many things, right babe?" He said winking at her.

For the second time in the past one hour, Nandini's eyes widened in surprise.

"What did you call me?" Her voice was hardly above a whisper.

"I called you a potato." He replied only to be rewarded with a W*F stare, "Of course you heard me, you don't like being called baby?" now questioningly looking at her. When she didn't reply he continued, "Okay, so what kind of endearments am I allowed? Your options are princess, jaan, doll, love or babe?"

Nandini started giggling and Manik's heart almost leaped out of its cage. Her laughter was what he had missed the most about her. He smiled seeing her happy.

"Since I am still not getting an answer, love it is. So my love, what would you like to have for breakfast?" he looked at her with love-struck eyes since the signal was red.

"Manik signal." She said pointing ahead to the green light indicating they could go ahead.

"I'm sorry my love, eating traffic signals for breakfast though adventurous isn't healthy." He smirked and this time got lightly smacked on his upper arm.

"Anywhere is fine, I'm not at all picky when it comes to eating." She said looking at the restaurants they were crossing.

"No wonder Chachi keeps experimenting." He mumbled under his breath.

"I heard that Manik." She said still not looking at him.

Soon they halted outside a really posh looking cafe. Nandini looked at it then at Manik then again at the restaurant, her eyes questioning him.

"What? You haven't eaten either have I. So we've come to one of my beloved places, welcome to Le Plasir.

Shaking her head in disapproval at the spoilted brat who was smiling like he was outside Disneyland she started walking ahead of him but he caught her hand and led her the way, even opening the restaurant door like the gentleman he very much was.

He ordered fresh orange juice for her and a cup of black tea for himself along with spaghetti and a platter of sandwiches, garlic break and a fruit bowl. Once it all arrived making their table for two look like one for six, nandini raised her eyebrows at him and asked, "I can't eat all this."

"Nobody said it is for you my love. All this," he said gesturing with his hand towards the plates, "is for me, if you want I'll let you have a bite or two. Not more than that okay?"

She suppressed a giggle and nodded agreeing. It took manic about 20 minutes to eat 70% of the food whereas nandini was done long before him.

"Oh my God, ManiK!" Nandini yelped looking at her phone.

"What? What? What?" he looked up and down as if something would appear out of thin air then looked at her clutching her phone, "What happened?"

"Its 9:30 already, Manik! We're late for college!" her innocence made him laugh.

"You're with me, why are you bothered about being late? Nevertheless, we're done so let's go." He got up offering her his hand which she didn't take, clearly still afraid of touching or being touched.

The two of them walked to the parking and Manik held the passenger door open for her then go into the driver's seat. Manik got his phone out and texted someone before he turned the ignition on and drove off into Mumbai's crazy traffic.

Ready for the tomatoes, eggs and flip-flops. I'm sorry that this update was so long. I just had an idea of what all i wanted to cover in this post because i think i the story's going a bit too slow.

sorry for not replying on previos part

No tomatoes or chapals for you :) Part 2& 3 were also very good and the update was good not extra lengthy . Keep writing :)
