It basically tell us to look beyond the superficial outward trapping and instead look to the inner qualities of the person. That play has always been my favorite, cause when Portia is forced by her deceased father's will to marry the suitor who correctly chooses her picture hidden in one of the three metal chests (gold, silver or lead) and nor she or the three suitor knows which chest contains her picture. The gold chest reads, " Who chooseth me shall gain what many men desire", and it's only when one of the suitor opens it that he reads that now-famous tribute to substance over looks, it contains skull's mouth 😆 The silver chest reads, " Who chooseth me shall get as much as he deserves". As Portia entertains her first two ridiculously pompous suitors, they choose the gold and silver chests, misled by their own faulty and self-congratulatory reasoning. It's only when the third suitor which she truly wants to marry chooses the chest made out of the lead and the chest reads, "Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath" (hath being marriage) . The point is that the least vain and most sincere of her three suitors is willing to give everything up for Portia, despite the fact that the chest looks the most unassuming of them all. And I have always wondered if the third suitor that she really wanted to marry was given the choice first to choose would he have still chosen the lead chest 😉

In short, if there are no pains there are no gains, and those are the Growing pains of Manik, te boy is finally turning into a men..

You still sexy like that 😆

Mehr you are a girl after my own heart...I'm really surprised you guys are not trolling this. 😉I love, love, love The Merchant of Venice. I like how your mind works especially the extrapolation of choices on growth. Take a bow woman. It's an interesting question especially because we are privy only to Portias point of view. She already liked Bassanio when she asks him to choose a chest and beseeches to choose correctly and take his time before making a decision. Let's assume that Bassanio read her character well because he had met her before and values her far beyond the riches. I suspect he would have chosen the lead chest even in the first instance because of his instincts. His growth would have been in recognition of Portia's worth sans the gold.
Portia and Nandu are very similar. I liked this Mehr. We should do more sexy time

That he would allow himself and you to watch him grow and display such various shades of his personality and his obvious emotional growth as a person, from a person with an inabilty to express emotionally to this guy who cannot wait to declare his emotions for the girl he loves and adores.😳

As much as Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan has been MaNan's love story together for us, it also has been a tribute to the individual growth of Manik and Nandini. Its like watching your babies grow up and go out into the world.*Sigh*

I planned to troll and only mush came out...*Sigh*

Ad hi resisting a troll bone...I'm impressed!
But truly their psychological growth on the serial is so commendable,it's subtle yet forceful. The evolution is so soul satisfying. His conversations, his approach, his rationality and his expressions have matured with such alacrity the moment he encountered our "obstacle" i.e Nandu.

Sexpot ☺️ Hi :')
HA! No one says it better than you. Growth. Baba has come such a long way hasn't he? From someone who doesn't care about anything to loving someone so deeply.

You shouldn't change for love but when love changes you for the better, that's the best kind.

He was shut out and he was emotionally unavailable. But our peach, his Nandini, came and threw all that away. They barely knew each other in the store room scene and he was already confessing his biggest fear of darkness to her. He was a man lost to love even before he realised it.

I like how you broke down the characterization. Can we say Manik has become less gadha and more Prince? 😆 When it comes to her, he's willing to go that extra mile. Love makes us all desperate fools. It's made Manik a smart cookie 😆 our baba :')

She reached for his heart and he let her :')

Bolty with all this growth Baba might just end up being the nerd of the century. Baba quoting Sonnets of the masters of yore whilst solving cryptic crosswords. The heart wants what the heart wants bas

Manik's mask was cracked the moment this chit of a girl punched him and told him what he was to his face. He is learning to believe in love. He is learning to control his anger. He is learning to introspect and now, he is the one giving her hope.

Nandini on the other hand is learning about the darker side of life as she is with him. She is learning that not everyone is good, that not everyone will really support the truth.

They allow each other to be who they really are and in the process, grow as individuals.

Still think that Baba has a long way to go before coming to his full potential 😆

And boy are we waiting for him to realise his full potential 😆

I've not watched too much telly but this serial has spoilt me for life. From what I know, most serials address the heroines travails and show her as some allegory of Liberty. But here we have witnessed an equal growth, self realisation and metamorphosis. Boy to man...beautiful

Doc now that my troll day is done I'm back here with my nerdy incarnation🤓
So I was thinking about one of your old topics and how Manik always used immature defense mechanisms to cope with problems.. but now his thought process has evolved so much recently . So many shining examples of mature defense mechanisms he has been exhibiting I just want to be geekily fangirl..😳

1)Sublimation: When the Pandit thing (and consequently Navya's silly kasam) happened, instead of going all out in his rage and lashing out blindly, he channeled his anger into solving puzzles instead and calmly thinking of a solution. So proud I am.

2)Altruism: As soon as Nandini's light was dimming, her "hope" was sinking, he forgot all about his hate focused on trying to save her smile. He wanted to protect her from disappointment at any cost. Then his own insecurities didn't matter, his own confusion, his divided loyalties none of it took precedence over Nandini's dream of them together. After that it became all about overcoming all the odds for her, with her.

3)Suppression: So many examples of this. His way of handling Dhruv especially during punch time when he didn't lose his temper neither during nor after, his reaction was a conscious rational decision not an impulsive move. His snark and plan to expose Pandit rather than indulging in a pointless show of machismo, his playing of Nyo and best of all his mature attitude towards Nandu's Amms and her dislike of him. Awesomesauce this boy.😎

4)Anticipation: Fusion concert. 'nuff said.😉

This transition from acting out to sublimation, from blocking and denial to a calm acceptance, judicial use of humour, dash of asceticism (completely unwanted though it is😆) and there you have it.. our gadha baba is all grown up.. Much of it must be attributed to Nandini afterall, his external ego voice.. she has steered him right and also stirred him up😈
His disillusionment with Dhruv is another point I wanted to mention, he has been using him as a front for his superego all this while but Dhrub sr's fall from grace has given Manik some much needed perspective on good and evil and how both components exist in everyone. He was initially shocked but is now understanding of Dhruv's own share of darkness and insecurities, just because Manik thought he was 'perfect' does not mean he was all 'good'; While at the same time he is now more trusting of the belief in his own goodness, Nandini told him he is perfect for her and he has realized that he can be the man she deserves, and he doesn't need to sacrifice/compromise or bargain his way to making it happen.. he just needs to love her and let her love him. The rest, everything else they can 'let go'.

I have to say this journey of the mind of a haunted, and lost boy finding the true worth of himself has been so beautiful for us to witness as an audience. Such a satisfying outcome this growth, I truly adore these CVs and their mastery of characterization. An impressed fan is moi.😛

Wish
I had completely forgotten about the defence mechanism post. Well contextualised.
Defence mechanisms are my most favourite part in psychology because it is man's evolution at its finest. It is in every way the most definitive expression of " Survival of the fittest". This was what I alluded to in the post as well,I find it so satisfying that you read between the lines. I did mention he was on the threshold of adapt or perish mainly because he was challenged and his mechanisms up until now were inadequate to say the least.
The most advanced defence mechanism is Altruism,as it involves complete submission of Ego to Id. And see our boy now...Manik made me emotional...
The examples are so apt Wish...you made me happy today😳

Doc🤗

The last time I felt this proud of myself was in kindergarten when the teacher gave me 3 stars for my drawing of a mango😳😆

I loveee that post of yours.. BI and me fangirl over all the time. I also like it for the clarity and perspective it gave on all the 3 characters.. until then my understanding of them was vague and messy but you helped me consolidate it into a perfect character sketch.. after that in my mind I couldn't help but evaluate their individual growth on these parameters..

Altruism Manik was always capable of.. the problem was his motivation and lack of balance.. he was too extreme.. but now instead of self-deprecation, his actions are inspired by love and best of all he has learnt to draw the line. Now there is no self-sacrifice, now there is self-sharing. This is his greatest progress.

Making you happy makes me smile too. iProud😳

Deconstructing Manik's growth

It's been a while since I wrote something and since I cannot do the brilliant testimonials please consider this as a show of affection and to celebrate the 100th AT.

Psychological growth is growth that increases our capacity for external accomplishment and inner fulfillment.

His response to challenges

We grow when we are challenged to be at our best and exceed ourselves. That challenge may come from life in the form of serious difficulties or great opportunities. It can also come from inside. Nandu has challenged his perfectly manicured notions from the word go but notice the transition in Manik's responses. Initially it mirrored a reflex action, a muscle twitch but now there is a coordinated response which involves the corticospinal tracts...sigh...Baby to Baba.

A noteworthy change in perception...She's altered his essential makeup..an undernourished soul now replete for life... He now perceives challenges as disguised opportunities that will unfold only the best..Things will only move forward...can't be worse. It's because he has experienced the peak on this roller coaster ride with her, he's experienced the highs and lows and values them..but is adamant to scale the peak because he knows how it feels to be atop.

Raise values

We challenge ourselves to excel by pursuing high goals. We also do it by pursuing high values. Values are spiritual ideals of perfection than we strive to express under the imperfect conditions of life. Values are spiritual skills. See how Baba has raised his values...cockblocking be damned. Our physically expressive baby is pursuing such high goals. The restraint dammit...it's killing us but Manik is levitating now, what with all the spirituality and good karma.😳

How true, It is but common knowledge...when you raise the bar for yourself, you need to give it your very best shot. Once the focus and commitment increases...you become more sensitized and aware of things that can push you back...It is at this crossroad that you deliberate and strategize..only the very best can survive...It's take all the strength and courage to deal with negativity ..but Baba has raised his values for sure 😳

Expand his awareness

Just take a moment to savour this point, Baba's acute awareness has made him dig deep, really deep and all his unutilized capacities have made him overcome his mental obstacles to reach a higher place.😆

Yes..he's experiencing every emotion to the core now because they are positive...they make him happy, content, wanted and accepted. He want's to savour them forever and will do anything to stop what affects him and her negatively.

Organise

Organization converts energy into power for accomplishment. The more organized you are, the greater the results you can achieve. Baba solving puzzles, using Internet for crime solving and cracking Pandits code. Not only that he is going to use his indefatigable sleuth skills to show that Pandit who the real baws is. My eyes are welling up,Baba is so awesome.⭐️

He is only organizing what he disrupted earlier..he was always capable but is only discovering it now...These building blocks now rest on a foundation that is unshakeable..Baba is all charged up...Pandit beware...😡

Skilled

To perform any act perfectly we require skill. The greater the skill we possess, the less the time and effort needed to perform the action and the greater the result achieved. We require a wide range of physical, social, psychological and spiritual growth. Ummm well Baba has the skills now show me some action Bas...😭

Ummm...building more ❤️❤️ skills

Anyways many benefits attached to skill building...be it them 😉or us the audience...definetly more action please

Baba has come a looong way
