Mehr you are a girl after my own heart...I'm really surprised you guys are not trolling this. 😉I love, love, love The Merchant of Venice. I like how your mind works especially the extrapolation of choices on growth. Take a bow woman. It's an interesting question especially because we are privy only to Portias point of view. She already liked Bassanio when she asks him to choose a chest and beseeches to choose correctly and take his time before making a decision. Let's assume that Bassanio read her character well because he had met her before and values her far beyond the riches. I suspect he would have chosen the lead chest even in the first instance because of his instincts. His growth would have been in recognition of Portia's worth sans the gold.Portia and Nandu are very similar. I liked this Mehr. We should do more sexy time
Just a warning, we are diverting from the topic, but hey what the heck, it's worth it...
See the thing is that, the relationship between Portia and Bassanio is not an easy one to fathom where Portia speaks very flatteringly of him but we see little of him other than he's always with Antonio and his debt to him. Through out the play it is difficult to see why Portia seems so girlishly infatuated by him as he prepares to take the chest test, maybe just a physical attraction, never understood that about Portia. And then Bassanio has been, among other things, something of an adventurer in the past, and might not long endure playing second fiddle to his rich wife, otherwise the world that the pair inhabit at the end of the play seems nothing short of idyllic! I have always questioned if Bassanio genuinely loves Portia, or is he just after the money, something we will never know...
