Part-B
That bald statement brought Navya's activity to a dead halt. Then she shook her head knowingly and continued puttering as she remarked, "It's about time. Three years of Harshad Saxena's patronizing attitude is plenty for anybody."
Up until roughly one hour ago, Harshad Saxena had been Nandini's boss. She had been his right hand woman in his commercial photography studio, the one personally responsible for enticing in new clients, keeping old clients happy and helping around the studio- doing everything from collecting props to developing, drying, and mounting prints. All of this had kept her busy, heaven knew, but she'd wanted with all her heart to be a photographer, something for which she was well qualified, having majored in art at Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Photography had been her first love, and excellent grades, plus high praise from her instructors, proved she had the ability. Today, in spite of the fact that she'd successfully completed many minor photographic assignments, Harshad had denied her the privilege of taking on a new client, one she had been wooing six months. And only today the client had announced he was ready to join the fold, but Harshad wouldn't let her do his photography. He added insult to injury by giving the project to a male photographer who'd been with the studio only one year. The ensuing argument had resulted in a battle royal, ending with Nandini's quitting. She had finally realized she was headed down a dead-end road.
"I guess I flew off the handle a teensy bit," she admitted ruefully. "But I've put up with that man ever since I came to San Francisco. Foolishly, I'd hoped he'd come around and let me show my stuff. Oh, I was blind! But you know, I'm glad I quit. I feel like I've been under a rock all these years and just discovered I can shove it off and stand up in sunshine."
Navya grunted an understanding sound and handed Nandini her tea. "But what are you going to do now?"
Nandini shrugged, then smiled wickedly.
"Make you sell more of my paintings, I guess.
Do giv ur precious comments😳
Part-C
Nandini shrugged, then smiled wickedly.
"Make you sell more of my paintings, I guess."
"That should be easy. I can't sell them fast enough. People come back for more and I have to tell them, The artist hasn't delivered any lately.'" She adopted a highbrow tone of voice totally out of character, and then added sternly, "So the artist had better get off her duff and pick up a brush!"
"I will, I will. But, darn it! I want to be a photographer. That's why I saved every spare penny for two years-so I could install that darkroom in my apartment." She gave a short, brittle laugh. "It's a good thing I did. At least now I can freelance if I want to. One thing is for sure though," she muttered with grim resolution, "I'll never work for some supercilious, greater-than-thou character like Harshad Saxena again!"
"Okay, good! Here, drink your tea," Navya ordered hurriedly, shoving Nandini's cup of chamomile tea closer to her. As Nandini sipped the calming brew, Navya added, "I can't take the time out now, but I want to hear every word that flew between you two today-in gaudy detail. Why don't you come over supper tonight? I've got this great bottle of wine I've been saving for a special occasion, and I need an excuse for opening it..."
"Since when did you ever need an excuse?" Nandini snorted, eyeing with a knowing look.
"Don't be catty! Will you come?"
"What're we having?"
"Pasta, what else?"
"Navya!"
"Now, now. You know I can't cook anything but pasta. I'm not like you Miss Perfect. Gads! You paint and draw beautiful pictures; you're a great photographer..."
"Thank you." Nandini bowed her head primly.
"I just wish certain other people concurred..."
"...and you're a gourmet cook to boot. I can't stand you!" Navya said with mock vehemence.
