PROLOGUE

"Promise me Manik, you'll never disobey your father." She lifted her weak hand and asked for something which is difficult for me to give - even on her last breath. My hearth cringed to see her engulfed in numerous tubes that pierced every major vein of her body. Her skin was pale, dry, flaky and lifeless; to such an extent that I see the nurse wrap her arm with thick cotton wool so that her skin doesn't separate her skeletal frame while checking the blood pressure. Indeed it was a petrifying scene, something we wouldn't wish even our enemies should go through. And here I am - seeing my own mother in such a state.

"I can't Maa," I said, my lips quivering behind the green surgical mask that covered lower half of my face. As I looked away my gaze fell on the nurse who looked at me with disgust. She must be thinking what kind of a son was I, who doesn't want to comply his terminally ill mother's last wish? If only she knew my scars were as deep as the ocean floor unexplored. However Maa wasn't disappointed. Somewhere deep down she knew I'll keep her wish.

"We can negotiate", she faintly smiled and made me smile too. growing up with her as a friend more than a son, we always made on pacts on negotiation because I never listened to her - just for the sake of it. And she knew I troubled her because I love her.

"Ok, I promise that I'll obey him. But only once in my life. I'll give him whatever he asks for, do whatever he says. But only once. For the fact that I was born with his sperm," I saw her chuckle. "Now happy?" She closed her eyes for a second in approval as a tears from her thick dark circled eyes fell. And then she closed her eyes one more time. And never opened them again.

I have always liked to read the mother son bond.

Do I need to say I am a realism sucker? This is pure beauty and the beginning is giving me pretty positive vibes. I am pretty loving the fact that this is not a story where we will see DhruNi romance as for me they are not like a couple is love but share something different! Hopefully you would keep that in mind when you write! :P

Can I request something? Please keep the character sketch different from the show (especially Manik's)

When My inspiration is writing, how can I not follow it? :o

Hahaha.. Ipti, now be ready for only dissapointments. Because this story is anything except what you thought it to be. In simple words, this is my first attempt at Mills and Boon-ish story. I have just taken few incidents from reality as inspiration. (Similar to all my stories, since I believe truth is stranger than fiction) However you are absolutely correct about DhruNi. But Dhruv is more like a guest appearance here as this is Manik's dark story and Nandini's angst story. But I'm sure you'll be blown away by my Dhruv here, I'll keep you suggestion in mind while writing.

Regarding character sketches, there is no college here or college students so I guess sketches are different, but traits are similar, that prompted me to write on Manik, Nandini and Dhruv. But I do my level best not to show the difference.

And yes, I think you got to stop taking me as inspiration because you have written more stories than me. Having said that, I take you as inspiration seeing your regular updates.👏

Yep, short updates are easy, crisp and quick. I knew it from you spoiled me sanyukta ff.. But this one i'll update twice a week, so as to update and complete quickly. Inshallah! It goes as planned as there is no much detailing here, everything is left to reader's imagination. I'll only give the story.
