I've been missing KY2 so much this weekend thought I would write a short piece on fireflies and how it seems to be an integral part of Manik and Nandini's story.
Although fireflies put on a pretty great lightshow, it's not just for entertainment. The flashing of their light is how they communicate with each other - especially for courtship rituals. Males flash to let the ladies know they're looking for love... and the females respond with a flash of their own.
In Japanese culture, hotaru or firefly have been a metaphor for passionate love .
So on a basic level nandu's fireflies glow when Manik is around...quite obviously symbolic but delving further the substance required to glow is called luciferin derived from the Latin word lucifer, meaning light bearing. The Roman goddess is sometimes known as Diana Lucifera, thanks to her association with the light of the moon. Diana also happens to be revered for her feministic as well as feminine traits
As both the hunting goddess and goddess of childbirth respectively. This makes her so fascinating as she incorporates death and birth...
Nandini's character is so well written she reminds me of Diana.
Manik on the other hand is like Apollo god of sun and music.
Nandini is like the moon and Manik like the sun...
Monday come soon...
