And go one level below the storyline:
If Ammu leaves, Ahujas would likely live their lives peacefully. Virat will be fine too - cause they made it that Babs wasn't the reason ex divorced Virat. So bad momma will be good momma if Ammu leaves. Problem solved. [There is no 'Dadi' who will rather stay with Pragya than Abhi - even for the reason of a dialogue.]
Is there anything to gain from staying?
Love? Is there any? [Had read a comment on X that what he felt for ex earlier was not love, hence he is taking time to realise his love for Ammu. well... what she feels for him is surprise and shock / brainfreeze.. not love either.]
Prove that she was innocent? Okay... and then what? And when are we going to do that? cause she is busy with everything else other than that.
If Amu leaves, that would be the best thing she has ever done in this entire show. But let's be realistic, the writers don't have the guts to write an itv show where the FL chooses herself over ML.
I believe in the independence day episode, Virat was thinking about apologizing to Ammu but she mistook it to be Nimmi and said - jahaan pyaar hota hai, wahaan sorry nahin bolte and he retorted - aur jahaan pyaar nahin hota? So this means at some level he knows that this isn't love. Guess that's why he is all the more confused.
I feel what Virat feels for Amu is more in the lines of "curiosity towards a novelty item". Virat, in his family and his social circle, has never come across an selfless, independent, working girl who can take a stand. So, naturally he was initially surprised and then became curious about her. After getting to know her it slowly converted into trust, respect, and camaraderie. Yes, there was a hint of flirting but it never felt more. So, I feel, for these feelings to transform into love on screen, the past issue need to be resolved first.
